Stu you prob wont get time to read this but I think you're awesome and I really hope you are successful with your training centre. My son is 2 yrs old and he says, "I'm a builder" all the time as he looks over my shoulder as I religiously watch your videos. Who knows eh, you might be teaching my son some day (as long as I can afford it! I'm only a decorator you know 😂😂) He is bloody good with his mega blocks!
Ah love this comment rob don’t worry mate all I’m doing with pricing is getting advice from experienced people and I will go with that. I’ve made mistakes pricing things before. This is training, I will get more out of producing great brickys than taking their money.
@@Stucrompton1 well here's to hoping he makes it to you some day! 👍
Bricklaying academy now open Rob visit www.bestbricky.com for courses 👍💪

Finally I’ve seen a proper builder doing it right like we do down south and cutting the cavity out to continue it into the extension. Another guy from up your end I call tattoos man don’t bother. I’ve asked him why and how does he stop the damp from tracking across to the inside wall and he don’t reply. Far play stu you know what your doing. If we didn’t cut the cavity out down here in south in Newbury Berkshire building control would have it down and start again. 👌
Every time I watch a video like this I realize just how much I don’t know in life. There is just so much knowledge out there people have. Very interesting to see, now I’m starting to understand why houses can cost so much.
Looks fantastic mate, nice to see a brickie with so much attention to detail and pride in their work.
Awesome to see proper grafters at work, taking pride and joy in what they do. Well done fella!
Hot weather...soak bricks with water before laying...and keep muck in large plastic tubs stops it drying out...liked the video.
In the summertime, bricks were hosed down before laying. Coring holes were left out on the Tray-Damp to allow the clearing of the cavity until the wall was one lift high, 5ft thereafter cavity battens were used which climbed with the wall until the next row of ties was reached when it was moved up and placed on the ties. This does not apply today as cavities have insulation installed and the mortar does not fall to the bottom of the cavity. Good videos and nice brickwork!
Really enjoying the videos lads, I did my college years ago and worked on site for a couple of years with a large gang, the top man though was employing keen young lads and paying them pittance, had a girlfriend at the time and needed money so walked away to go work on telehandler. I'm just getting back into private work now on the trowel for myself and am finding these videos very useful as I'm rusty with being off the trowel, keep them coming 👍
some seriously elegant style whilst laying that cement and brick laying
Im not even a brikky and I love watching your videos. Hope you know how much people enjoy them! Keep it up mate
Yes I do mate and that’s why I keep making them 😁. Thanks mate
The bricks look amazing raked out, makes them stand out. Another great video always learn something new.
Nice work, we have been wetting the bricks down stu it helps loads and give you more time to point up 👍 we wet em down first thing then as and when👌🏻
Love that brick, especially raked out. Lovely job stu
Raked with them bricks looks amazing looks rustic
Mester of the brick respect from morocco i dont anderstand englich but nice to see your videos and your professionel job
Those bricks look sweet!I like a flushed or rubbed joint on handmade type bricks myself.
Stu's workmanship is super consistent 👌🏻
There’s not many tradesmen who’d show you there days work, this guy has nowt to hide.
I’ll bet every tradesman, wether it be a bricklayer, carpenter, electrician, plumber or whatever, will tell you that there a real tradesman. It’s all about the job they finish what they started. It shows when someone takes pride in the work they do,no matter what job they do. I’d have confidence in hiring this guy, takes pride in his craft,is respectful to his customers and knows what he’s doing. As for the people who’ve thumbed this video down,I’ll get back to you (maybe).
Superb tutorial again Stu,good clean Trowel 👌
Nice work Stu, looks great, hope to see how the job progresses.
I love watching brickies! 🤠
Love how informative your videos are. 😁
What a tradesman you are Stu
Superb
Life on demestic mate you find your self jointing all the time top work mate looks great so far👍👍👍👍👍
In Australia we are constantly working in 30 - 40 degrees C ( 80 - 100 F) in summer, so we start at 5.30 am and finish about 2.30 pm , also depending on the type of brick we are using we also wet them down plus the mortar is a lot wetter ( which takes some getting used to ) but it means you cant put down a long bed and you have to be quicker. We also have to point up every course with a marshalltown jointer but generally a piece of 20mm electrical pipe is used but you have to have full joints then a stiffish brush. You get a surprisingly good finish, though you wouldn't think so at first.
I will also send you some pictures of a different type of profile which is a lot easier and less time consuming to set up and use.
P.S - please do a twisted brick and a half pier.
keep up the good work mate.
Cheers.
It's actually hotter than that in F, it's 86 deg to 104! Insane! When he said 28 was quite hot I kind of laughed :)
Rake out joint compliments those bricks.
Looks spot on that stu, loads better raked out too. Walled similar bricks to those they were like sponges! We dipped them in water before you lay one down, but that was with lime mortar. Cheers 👍
This is brilliant - well worth a watch! One of the best building videos I have seen 💪🏻💪🏻
Stew watching your video and your the only one I’ve seen on here that does it correct and cut out the cavity. I looked at construction with Kieran and asked him why he doesn’t cut cavities put a tray over a RSJ on a single story extension and why no tray under copings on a parapit wall. Ten minutes later he disarmed the comments. Your a pleasure to watch a see it done properly 🙏👌👍
Mate I love watching your videos you are the reason I am going back into bricklaying you make it look so easy boss
Forterra bricks are the business!!!
Love your channel. Looking forward to seeing the end product. Best wishes
Cheers Kc 👍
Was glad of this video this morning - did my first ever at-home (as opposed to the training course) bricklaying on Sat, putting down the first courses of my extension. Lije you, the mortar was going off at an insane rate - thought I'd done something wrong and ended up chucking more than I used (because I'm VERY slow!)
I liked all the extra little bits of information you thought to add in this video. Things like if you were going to joint it out or rake it out; what the style of the brick used was and other such bits of information. I find that kind of thing fascinating.
Good looking stuff Stu!
Stu your quality of work is awesome keep these videos coming lad
Quality of that camera is amazing!!!
Those are lovely bricks, I'm a big fan of west hoathleys myself.
I just love watching your videoes, so satisfying 😄
nice work matey, loving the videos
Great video Stu, KC has got some competition in the brush department there , looking good 💯😘😉💪😎🍌🌽
Awesome job. I'm pretty hands on but I wish I could do that as good as you. Keep up with the videos 👍
Love the videos I’ve just finished my level 1 brick course and start an apprenticeship soon hopefully watched you videos about a month after starting and haven’t stopped since💜 could you do a video about tips and tricks please would love to know some of your techniques
Thank you Stu .
The bricks look really cool 👍
Thanks for pointing that out @6:28 cause I was always curious. Had a guess that's how it worked but wasn't sure.
This is my new channel. Love this content.
Great videos, thanks for upload
Found you on Facebook so glad you make RUclips videos bro we appreciate seeing how the pros do it, not the cowboys
Cheers john mate
Cheers Stu
I’ve used a very similar brick to them....Hampton rural blend. A nightmare in the heat! Looking good though and keep up the good work!
Yea Ross very similar and yeah, nightmare lol I will wet them tomorrow 👍
Great video as always Stu, raked out would be my choice
Well begun,
Job half done.

Just got home. Il grab a cuppa before I enjoy this mate. No doubt it will be quality. 👍🏾
Nice one A
stu crompton great choice of brick. Looks like reclaimed brick but definitely adds a bit of quality. And those joints look real sharp. Great work guys. You given KC a day off?
Best wishes,
Alamin.
Hi Stu a tip bucket of water and let your bricks swim than the morter will not lose water as fast . nice job 👍 Pat from Belgium
That’s a brilliant tip
good job
Looking mint, I'd go with raked out if it was my build..
Yeah James looks to bring the character of the brick out more. Glad customer picked that finish over jointed
Looks good I’d advise to do more did thes
good job my friend
We're having the same problem with the heat up here.. by 2pm we're all knackered.
We don’t know what sun is pal lol 😂

@@Stucrompton1 lol 👍
Super Bricky
I start a new job tomorrow as a lvl 3 apprentice, little bit of laboring and brick laying. Wish me luck from Canada.
well done, good luck
Thanks
I live in Russia and I like watching your videos. Good luck :)
Definitely raked
Great vid seems like a good labour that lad maybe you should take him on full time 👍🏻
He’s doing good wazz
Was the need for the cavity tray also for Radon Barrier prevention? Thanks for the upload, I will be linking this to superstructure work to our cavity walling unit in college.
Nice vid
Bucket of water and dunk the bricks as you go or hose the down couple of times in the day so they don't suck the mud dry. Helps me when we lay those dry one in the hot heat of the day
Just waiting for that stu......
Good to see excellent workmanship. Could have used blown in poly bead than wool insulation.
The technology of unloading bricks from the truck is amazing. Where are the wooden pallets?
Loving the videos. I've learned so much. Can i ask why you have used a 'cavity tray' aswell as the dpc as the foundation location? From what i understand of the regs they are only needed as openings in the wall such as doors, windows and air bricks. Did the foundation detail require it? Thanks!
Raked out in my opinion looks much better and saves time. And we all know, time is money.
That type of brick are a nightmare especially when its hot! We dip em in a bucket of water as we lay em 😉 what's the idea with the damp behind the wallstarters, Not seen that before??
Continuing the external leaf round having opened up the cavity to the new extension.... absolutely none to my mind.
So successful dear
Stu might be stupid question why do you cut the 100mm cavity in the existing house
So that you can continue the house cavity through to the new extension
Raked out!!!
Definitely raked out. What sort of rake do you use?
Class as always mate, think those profiles would work on timber kit with the top clamps ?
You can get some on Ebay for timber frame
Clearly very talented, but what would really help us novices is if you could provide a bit more some explanation along the way. For example, the purpose of the starter things and how to put in the DPC etc. Thanks
Not buttering the blocks either side when laying the last block on the line, tut tut , schoolboy error 😂😂
What’s the tune at the start. Also been watching these videos since I started my time and they’re still great
The night is young (Phoco remix)
Lovely block work that’s how it should be down
