Agreed. I love her little celebration with her fists right before she hugs her coach. Such a pure and happy reaction for what I still argue is one of the greatest vaults in gymnastics history (men OR women). She was such a talented gymnast and very underrated in the media outside of vault. I absolutely LOVED her on floor. Clean, crisp, and well executed tumbling with gorgeous sets and high difficulty. One of the few gymnasts who actually incorporated REAL artistic dance and graceful leaps without looking robotic or cheerleader-ish.
Ok. I'm done now. Thanks for reading my "fussy" appreciation. 😂

It is insane rewatching the USA women's team dominate at these games now knowing many, if not all, of them were being subjected to the abuses of Larry Nassar and his enablers.

This vault is so iconic, I don't even remember who the first place winner was.

It was Sandra Izbasa. The problem was that McKayla did an amazing first vault, but then fell on her second vault. Sandra, by contrast, did two very solid vaults, and so her overall score was higher. It says a lot about how good this vault was, that McKayla literally landed on her ass on the second one and still got silver.

@@chooseyourpoison5105 Even with the fall on the second vault, had she done this vault in vault finals, she STILL would have won. This vault was from the team final, NOT the vault final. She did not do this vault nearly as well in the vault final.

and they STILL took deductions- I remember the days with the 10.0- people would take a hop on the landing (Nadia included) and get 10s- we'll never see a performance 10 again!😪

She really didn't hold her landing. She seemingly stuck it, but then took a step forward. That's the reality of the situation.

Who says human beings can't fly?
I've watched gymnastics for a long time and I have to say it gets ever more stressful to do so. The action is so incredible and the possibility of serious injury is always present. In the 1998 Goodwill Games a Chinese gymnast injured her spinal cord and became paralyzed while executing a simple warmup vault. And then to watch what these top vaulters like Mckayla Maroney can do...
