LOL my wife came in to find my head hanging back over the chair with me snoring while "some dude" was rambling on about contaminants on a car surface. She's like, "Don't you have something better to do with your life?"
I would expect TFR to be far more powerful, honestly. I feel its important to stress that TFR will also strip waxes and harm sealants though, where most snow foams will not.
I know this is an older video so I don't know if you'll see this, but I would love to see you revisit this idea with the advances made in applying strong protection easily, and the advances in cleaning power with snow foam prewashes.
Working at a car dealership I have access to as much Autosmart traffic film remover as I need. Same stuff as in this video I believe. I'm no professional car valet, but I've always found it to be far more effective than most snow foams.
And this why I love your channel. A true proper car wash. That is how I wash all my cars and clients cars. Not just a quick snow foam because it looks cool. Snow foam sucks if you ask me lol
This was very helpful! You're one of the very few that actually explains the difference between products and why to choose one over the other. Thank you!
I use the snow foam. Its a great product.I do wash myn once a week so it never gets in a really bad state.Snow foam does not remove Tar nor does Traffic film.Tar remover is needed.
I have a white truck and if I wash him once a week I use Asphalt remover. I found a local brand that doesn't cost that much, does its job well and safe on the paint. Everything else I've tried still leaves black dots on the body. And you can see those very well on a white truck
I decided I'll buy a foam gun for my pressure washer and this video confirmed my decision. I prefer a softer, safer pre-wash and just not let my car get so dirty I need stronger stuff that also eats away the layers of protection I have on it. PS.: I recognise your voice from other videos that aren't about car cleaning, but I can't remember where from...
Yes and no. You would get the loose grime off but then the snow foam wouldn't stick as well as it would while dry. Kinda of a toss up I'd think. I tend to rinse first and let it sit to drop dry for a bit then snow foam.
PumarisX worked at Porsche dealer for over 5 years trust me that guy, needs a alignment, at dealership they use a hawk eye which indicates alignments up to 10th of a millimeter
Hello Sir, here is an idea just coming out of my head. What about taking the foaming soap and put it in a little sprayer? Maybe the foam is just air bubbles and soapy water of the same product would work equally well or even better? I think that snow foam look cool but is there a purpose to it that justify spending in a foam canon?
+Brian Kane It's not as straight forward as you might think trying to find a nice car to use as subject matter that's also really dirty, that's also parked on a nice spacious driveway and who's owner also doesn't mind you filming it for a video!
+Brian Kane That kind of dirt is the hardest to chemically remove. Even if it was full of mud, after a full bath with the pressure washer, what would remain will be that stubborn film of dirt that was present on this car at the beginning of the video
Hey 2 questions: 1) At any level of dirt on a car (from slightly dirty to very dirty) is it okay, after having applied a first layer of snow foam and having let it soak for a couple minutes, to apply a second layer to soften all the dirt even more before using the pressure washer ? 2) How do you know exactly the time limit for wich you can let the TFR ? Do you follow guidances on the notice or you do it by insinct ? Shouldn't things like weather and type of paint be taken into consideraton ? Thx Take care, love your videos. .
Confused, new to detailing I've started using TFR foaming TFR in a snow cannon for terrible condition cars, lately I've also mixed with Turtle Was Orange contact wash ( just messing about ) Anyone know if this stops the TFR working I also use Touch-less and Auto Foam when the car is glossy
Just wash the whole car with a couple of cap fulls of kerosene in a bucket of water. Strips road film instantly, bugs etc, freshens up black plastics and also acts as a rust preventative. Makes the car shiny too.
Can I ask what pressure your handheld pump sprayer operates at and where you get one, the sprayers I've used don't seem to have the power yours has, thanks.
You should definitely try out Nerta Active Diamond pre cleaner for snow cannon. This product replaces the use of surfex etc. It can be watered out ridiculous low and still produce a thick layer of foam. Foam should be used in top Of petroleum based degreaser. Then u get more time from the degreaser already on and still more power loosing up the dirt. But great video :) And what is you thought on using petroleum based degreaser, foam then rinse down and then apply a gently foam ( mr pink for example) and then start to hand wash the car with 2 bucket? I would think the foam would provide a great ant swirl effect? You thoughts?
I do sometimes degrease/TFR the foam on top to get the best of both worlds. I see lots of people contact wash using another blanket of snow foam and while it undoubtedly provides extra lubricity I doubt it actually aids the cleaning process at all.
So dragged my pressure washer out today, bought a big tub of Autoglym pressure wash(supposedly foaming), I foamed the car, the results were rubbish, I get better results from just using Zymol wash. It ran straight off and started drying quick in 10degC no sunlight. I will persevere, but I'll stick to proper stuff. Next time I'll buy what you use. At Least I've got 10litres of stuff I can wash my drive and paths with 😂
I've used TFR for years on cars and bikes but i've experienced whitening to black plastics. This may have been due to the mix being too strong or that i left it too long, but it wasn't that much of issue on what i'd previously used it on. I just sprayed those parts with GT85 or similar to dress them back to normal. However, i now have a car i am worried about the same thing happening to. It has the odd piece of black plastic trim that i definitely want to keep in good order and i'm wondering whether to use TFR on the car or not. I once used it to degrease some disassembled engine parts and it actually ate into the aluminium camshaft caps! Admittedly i didn't take necessary precaution here and used it way too strong and left for too long, but this was alarming. I want to strip my car of previous sealants/waxes before i polish it. You mention about being careful with it, is there a rule of thumb when using TFR on paints and plastics? Cheers
hi, firstly fantastic videos, thank you. i have a mini convertible and were told not to wash the roof as it bleaches it out,so over the last 4 years apart from occasional hoover and brisk moving pressure wash thats it. Do you think snow foam would be ok over the whole car and then wash off as an answer thanks
Generally the rule is to avoid using wax based shampoo's on convertible tops (although I've never had any issues) and snow foam is so weak it shouldn't do any damage.
TFR: biggest killer of diamond cut alloys you will find, removes grease from brake calipers, soaks behind wheel hubs and reacts will alloy and steel causing corrosion, this is why alloys are hard to get off, both metals corrode and expand. Crap.
Do you know if fall out remover (e.g. Korrosol) or tar and gel remover causes corrosion on diamond cut alloys? Should I just use bilberry and a sealant instead?

Any other things you use a pump sprayer for on cars? I have one I use for rinseless washing. Just trying to think of what else I could use it for as well.

I've had my car treated with with IGL ceramic coating and it looks fantastic. The guy took all the swirls out of the paintwork. I've been using a PH neutral citrus traffic film cleaner before washing. Will this damage the coating
It might degrade it a bit over time but still better than using something caustic. A coated car shouldn’t really need anything more than a snow foam for the pre-wash though.
@@CarCleaningGuru I've not hand washed it since I had it done . Only contact I've done is drying it . But if I take it out for a drive right after the water just slides off lol .
Can someone please explain the difference between Traffic Film Removers (TFR) vs APC or Degreasers ?? I suppose I'm asking if I can substitute a $4/gal container of purple power for the traffic film remover...
APC's can be used on parts TFR'S can't. TFR's are generally stronger, carry a greater risk of damaging the finish yet are better at cleaning the lower areas of a car. If your vehicle doesn't get that ingrained you shouldn't be thinking about a TFR, generally it's used on filthy, unkept cars.
Yes it's just a contactless pre-wash, the car still needs to be contact washed and no it won't dull the paintwork even if left to dry, TFR will though...

For people who really care about their vehicles, they would never ever use any TFR (Traffic Film Remover) when cleaning as they are to harsh and aggressive to use on all exterior vehicle surfaces.
All our Eastern European manned hand wash car cleaners use TFR as a matter of course. They do A fast effective job, certainly good for those whose vehicle is a company car. If it’s your own and cherished I wouldn’t let them near it!
Question to the point which is the best to use also I'm sure I saw snowfoam with wax included or did I imagine it,if this is so is it a good thing to use cheers problem there is so many out they it's going to be back to the car was were they already messed my paint work up by using a mitten to go over the car and they didn't cold wash car first properly hench dirt still on the car from the seals and yes went over my car I sold the car because of it so decided to get back to basics yes do it your self so any help just to make life a little easier as in 68 and I like the job done right thanks
+jasonbanks100 Yes but be aware it may then strip any wax from the surface and stain if it's accidentally left to dry. In the right circumstances though it can work.
Great video. You have inspired me to start my own car detailing business with in the next year, something that worries me is how do i remove black tar? You seem to run into it often maybe a tip or video?
having worked in the industry, tfr is most effective by far, I just use snowfoam as a means of applying soap to the car now, you could always mix tfr in with the foam,
+nissan300bhp Problem is when you have the car waxed with some carnauba wax (which many detailing enthusiasts have), the TFT will strip the wax, unlike pH-neutral snow foam
+DetailingBlog.cz yes but then a tfr is only used when a car hasint been cleaned in fairly long time. full valets/details where you will be doing all the steps anyway. wax your looking about 3 - 4 months protection so you might even want to use tfr if you want apply a fresh coat of wax. i personally do not, my cars are clean and ive ether got sealent or wax on them so nothing ever really builds up. i just prewash with my presurre washer and foam lance. then i bucket wash. a highly maintained car does not need tfr
So what would you use to remove the tar? I don't want to use a claybar as the last wash i polished and sealed my paint! Are you based in Warrington by the way? Dan
I used AutoGlym Tar Remover on mine. It's about £7 from halfords. It defiantly removes the tar better than anything else I have tried and with little effort too. Maybe not as easy as AutoGlym says it does but it's a great product. Hope this helps
I like that you make a script and narrate it rather than winging it on the fly like a lot of youtubers do. Very professional.
Talking on the fly is far more natural but there's too much I'd forget to say.

to take of tar use kerosene, apply to a rag just whipe to areas concern, whipe slowly until tar has soften and transfer to the rag.

great vid thanks can you use tfr in a snow foam applicator
Question to the point which is the best to use also I'm sure I saw snowfoam with wax included or did I imagine it,if this is so is it a good thing to use cheers problem there is so many out they it's going to be back to the car was were they already messed my paint work up by using a mitten to go over the car and they didn't cold wash car first properly hench dirt still on the car from the seals and yes went over my car I sold the car because of it so decided to get back to basics yes do it your self so any help just to make life a little easier as in 68 and I like the job done right thanks
Is it possible to add a small drop of tfr to the snow foam mixture? When I mix up a bottle of snow foam I always add half a cap full of apc
+jasonbanks100 Yes but be aware it may then strip any wax from the surface and stain if it's accidentally left to dry. In the right circumstances though it can work.
+Car Cleaning Guru in your opinion what are the best snow foams and tfr cleaners you can buy??
I've always just used bulk trade products for pre-cleaning duties so my only real considerations were them being non caustic and/or PH neutral.
why do you hold the hose so high when your washing the wheels your missing part of the wheel.
very helpful info! what kind of gloves did you use here and where can i get them?
Hi, what do you find best to remove tree sap as I live near trees and struggle to remove it?
Never park under trees.
The sapphire is very aggressive.
It will eat through your paint work like a paint stripper..
Very,very bad idea..
Which is better to use a snow foam with PH Neutral or snow foam with out PH Neutral
Great video. You have inspired me to start my own car detailing business with in the next year, something that worries me is how do i remove black tar? You seem to run into it often maybe a tip or video?
+PaLo A simple tar & adhesive remover! Spray on and let it eat into the spots then either pressure rinse off or lightly rub over with a MF towel.
Are You not supposed to rinse film remover from the bottom and then move up?
Can you please let that pressure washer brand....
having worked in the industry, tfr is most effective by far, I just use snowfoam as a means of applying soap to the car now, you could always mix tfr in with the foam,
+nissan300bhp Problem is when you have the car waxed with some carnauba wax (which many detailing enthusiasts have), the TFT will strip the wax, unlike pH-neutral snow foam
How is it that the high pressure washer is not blasting the clear coat from the car or wheels?
Because it's not that powerful and designed for cleaning not stripping.
+Car Cleaning Guru what company/make is your power washer ? :)
the unit is a Karcher Max PSI is 1600. I has a variable power attachment that I have never used.
Is that a autobrite direct snowfoam lance and what snowfoam are you using thanks Liam
+Liam James Yes along with Autobrite Magifoam here!
I assume that traffic film removers are not recommended for cars with ceramic coatings?
So what would you use to remove the tar? I don't want to use a claybar as the last wash i polished and sealed my paint!
Are you based in Warrington by the way?
Dan
I used AutoGlym Tar Remover on mine. It's about £7 from halfords. It defiantly removes the tar better than anything else I have tried and with little effort too. Maybe not as easy as AutoGlym says it does but it's a great product. Hope this helps
+Danny Poulter I use Tar X find it really good and easy to use. www.amazon.com/Tar-Adhesive-Remover-500-ml/dp/B00FY0S61Q
