  • I wind one of my howard miller clocks in this video. This clock has a 7 day movement which needs to be wound once a week. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this clock in the comments, I'll do my best to reply to you as soon as possible.

      One of my favorites. Whenever I move into an apartment I obviously can't bring all of my clocks, but this one will probably come with me.

    Telling us how to know when to stop winding would be good to add in the video.

      When the key stops turning. When it's wound to it's max, the key won't be able to turn anymore.

      Middle is the power to the clock, I believe the left is the hour strike and the right one is the melody I believe.

    How often do you have to wind this clock?

  • @johnm.6422

    I picked up a Howard Miller wind up clock, but it doesn't have a pendulum, starts and runs automatically when wound. It has gained about 5 minutes, and since there is no pendulum I can stop until it is in sync with the actual time, will it damage the clock to move the minute hand counter clockwise (backwards) by 5 minutes? I've always been told never to move clock hands backwards. I really don't want to manually move the hands clockwise 12 hours to get it to the correct time. Thanks... John

      Yeah you can move the hands backwards. I do it all the time on my clocks. Some clocks however should not be moved backwards. Based on your situation you should be fine

    Do you wind till it stops or just until you feel it tighten?

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  Год назад +1

      I typically wind it until it doesn't let me turn the key anymore, there are a couple of my clocks that I prefer only winding it until I feel it getting tight.

    The middle hole to wind will not wind tight, it just keeps winding and the holes on either end are wound tight … so it’s not wkn at all … it was brand new when I took it out of the package, so it does not have any dust or dirt

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  11 месяцев назад

      That’s strange. I wonder if the middle hole is connected properly to the spring to give it that winding power

    • @maryallisoncox
      @maryallisoncox 11 месяцев назад

      Think it’s because I wound all 3 of them again on the second or 3td day ? I didn’t know how often you were supposed to wind them, so I just wound them again just enough to get it slightly tight. And they were all three fine at this point….. then it just stopped working, and I realized that the middle just kept going round and round and never would tighten

      The mechanism may need to be oiled and/or cleaned. I recommend purchasing a clock oil to lube it. There are some good videos on RUclips to watch to show you how to oil your clock.

    How do you silence the clock ?

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  2 года назад +2

      There's a switch on the left side of the clock, when the switch is down, the clock is silenced. When it is in the up position, the clock chimes every 15 minutes.

    Does this clock have a tick tock to it. I don't hear anything after winding mine. On the right side of the face i have 4 settings. Not sure what they are used for. Can you be of any further assistance. Thanks in advance.

    • @Jamestube8439
      @Jamestube8439  Месяц назад +1

      It does tick, just very quietly. The 4 settings are probably for changing chime melody. I’m guessing one is for silent and the other 3 saying something like West Minster, St Michael, and Wittington
