My clock hands are showing the correct time. However, the number of chimes reflects 3 hour later than the correct time. For example, at 10:00 am it chimes once. So, I can’t just move the clock hands (which are correct) to match the number of chimes (which is wrong). Ideas?

Hi. Wow that Looks So easy!
Hope you can help with the clock I’ve just inherited please…?
My clock just doesn’t stop chiming on the hour I counted 15 or more! The hammer just keeps hitting a flat circular spiral spring in the back of the clock.
    .
Also, as you look at the clock…do you wind the left for the chime spring and left for the clock, or the other way around?
    Thank you SO much

    • @YourReviewChannel
      @YourReviewChannel  10 месяцев назад +2

It sounds like it could need oiling or servicing. My suggestion is to wind both sides do not overtighten just enough when you feel attention. Both sides have to be wound in order to work correctly. It could be stuck.
Give that a try first and then see how it goes

      Hi.
So what you're going to have to do is remove the minuite hand.
There is sometimes a hand screw on the end of the stem. Remove the screw, then carefully pull the hand out. You will notice it looks like a square fitting so just place it back on at the correct angle.
      Hope this helps.

Hi, Bulova mantel clock strikes correct hour with hands on quarter hour. ie: hands show 8:15 chimes ring 8 times. Rings on each quarter hour. Do I repair as you did above? Would be skipping the 1/2 and 3/4 hr. chimes or allow those to chime? Seems clock would chime next hour. But then could adjust hour as shown above? If you can even understand this question, what should I do? Thank you.

It moved last night when we tried it but still not right. We have watched other videos and very confusing. So if I get it to the number of chimes or strikes (whatever it's called) then how do I move it back to the real time?

I bought a Takeda clock and had it shipped directly to my parents in 1970 while I was in Vietnam. After they passed away. I inherited the clock. After being stored for a few years, I decided to hang it on a wall in my home, and discovered it would strike as if the time was six hours ahead of the displayed time. I'm going to try your technique, carefully winding the hour hand six hours ahead and post an update to this comment.

Hi, I bought a Elgin 201 clock. For some reason, every time it chimes, it's 12 o'clock. It never changes it's stuck at 12 o'clock. Can you help me with that? Thank you

After syncing the chime, to get it to correct time once more, do you turn the hands clock-wise? I’m guessing counter clock-wise would loosen the hour and minute hands once more.

    Hi. Great video. Thank you.
Just found a Seth Thomas Ship's Bell c.1921, all in excellent order except that the gong is two hours ahead of the movement time... exactly two hours during the four-hour watch keeping cycle :)
Would the technique you describe here work for this situation ?
This clock does not have a silent mode switch

A friend gave the Postal Telegraph clock to me 1 day before he died unexpectedly. 5 years later it seems to be a conspiracy to not be able to find the right motor for it. If you happen to find one or find info on what I should delve into on that clock, please keep me in mind? I've bought 8 so far that just aren't quite right. My aim is to fix that clock and give it to his kid. Take care. Thanks for acknowledging me.

you got the chime to match the hour on the face but you didnt explain how to match it to the time that it was as you were setting it. You got it to ring 9 times with the hand on 9 but what if you were setting the whole thing at 3 oclock in the afternoon?

All you have to do is keep moving the hands clockwise slowly until your reach the desired time.

Keeping the clock and strike / chime trains wound has nothing to do with this problem of striking the wrong hour. One thing has nothing to do with the other. With clocks that have both chimes and strikes both functions stop if the chime train runs down since it triggers the strike. With those clocks the wrong hour won't be struck, but rather the hour will be struck at the wrong quarter of the hour since the chime train is out of sync and it triggers the strike train.
The problem with this clock was that the hour hand was in the wrong position relative to the snail which is human installation error. Rotating the hour hand from 6 to 7 moved the hour hand on the snail to where it should have been.
A little theory: The snail is a cam with 12 declining steps on it. It somewhat resembles the shell of a snail. The snail is fixed solid on the hour shaft. When the strike train is started at the top of the hour the rack positioning lever is dropped onto the snail setting the chiming rack for the number of strikes for the current hour. As the clock chimes the gathering pallet turns moving the rack to closer to it's finishing position when the strikes for the hour are completed. The more hours that pass as you get closer to twelve, the lower on the snail the rack positioning lever falls causing the rack to have to travel farther.
This clock doesn't have a chime train so you don't have 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and on the hour chiming. That can get out of sync if the chime train happens to wind down but the clock keeps running. Most clocks have some form of internal chime train correction which will usually engage at the 3/4 hour mark by itself. In the case of those movements just wind it up and let it run. It will correct itself.
