"Time (Clock of the Heart)" is a song by the British new wave band Culture Club, released as a stand-alone single in most of the world and as the second single from their debut album Kissing to Be Clever in North America. Following on the heels of the band's global #1 hit, "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me", "Time (Clock of the Heart)" peaked at #3 on the UK Singles Chart, selling over 500,000 copies in the UK. In the United States, the song matched the #2 peak of its predecessor on the Billboard Hot 100, kept from the #1 spot by "Flashdance... What a Feeling" by Irene Cara for two weeks.
In Europe and United Kingdom, it was a stand-alone single, released in November 1982. For this market, its first inclusion on a Culture Club album was on their 1987 compilation, called This Time: The First Four Years.
In a retrospective review of the song, Allmusic journalist Stewart Mason wrote: "Of all of Culture Club's early hits, Time (Clock of the Heart) has probably aged the best. Boy George drops the cryptic self-mythology long enough to deliver a tender, heartfelt lyric on lost love."[1]
The music video has been released in two versions. The only difference was a scene where the group is watching television, along with vocalist Helen Terry. In one version, a Christmas tree is shown. In the other, the tree is removed. This was because of the date of release for certain markets. The "Christmas" version (which is on the 2005 DVD "Greatest Hits") was for European countries and the "regular version" was for the other markets, where the song was released in Spring 1983.
The US single was released with the B-side being an instrumental version of the song called "Romance Beyond the Alphabet", which not only removed the vocals but at least one layer of melody as well.
The music video was featured during a flashback scene on the TV show Mr. Robot, season 4, episode 3. Видеоклипы
Boy George is a icon. You can't over-estimate his impact on freedoms and expression in media today. Back then his voice was a smooth as silk and he looked so good ! This track is a whole vibe. You have Boy and his ever so slightly sorrowful vocals combined with that bouncy soul sound... ahhhh BLISS ! Again love your enthusiasm in this reaction and your voice is amazing too (I secretly look forward to hearing you sing).
😁thank u
unfortunately his vocals haven’t aged well. was a huge fan
Back in 82 when the 80’s exploded..dam we had it all❤
You can never go wrong with George and Culture Club. 😎💕
love Boy forever!
I've been with my man for literally 20 years and this is our song 😉😊
love that! xo
🔥🔥
This is definitely one of my favorite Culture Club songs. I love lush. And this was early on in Boy George's career. That's that "blue eyed soul" especially from England (Boy George, George Michael, Lisa Stanfield, Joss Stone). The sax really fits well on this songs. PS my b-day the 14th. Empress I remember that yours is 3 days later.
Aye, Sam season Turn up‼
Absolutely! One of my favorites!
I’ve always loved this song. And, I’m with you 💯 on how this song opens! Draws you in right from the start! Thanks for the reaction Empress!
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
Yaaaas🔥🔥
This is my favorite cc song! Especially those beautiful backing instrumentals 😍
BOY GEORGE - THE REAL KING OF POP! Had the legions of wannabes before any of them! Brave, rebellious, poetic lyricist that will never get his due because he was so in your face gay. #BOY4EVER! Smooth as silk vocals.
Yes effin true!!! I remember being in Kindergarten like '82/'83 and all of us kids LOVED him!!
But as a kid I didn't call Culture Club by their name I always screamed EEMI...don't know why???
He was the first Madonna & Cindy Lauper in a man's package 😆
@@sashabertold3731 yes he was!
I love Boy George / Culture Club⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I LOVED your reaction Empress, we are ALWAYS vibin'! This song pretty much sums up my early teenage years..I listened to this song and the album Kissing To Be Clever pretty much 24-7 for a year straight. Boy George gives you the smoothest vocals ever on this track and to this day..I STILL get in my feelings when I hear it. I remember my 14 year old self wearing TF out of this white t shirt/ black tank top combo with that hat and headscarf...it was def my signature lewk back in 82/83.
😂😂love it
Against all odds, my all time favorite Culture Club song just got better! Thanks for these outstanding reactions, your effervescence, sense of fun, ans sublime singing voice breathes new life into these songs...and for a few moments I'm back in the magic kingdom of the 1980's, more a place than a time...when these amazing songs were new. Thank you for making my day with these unforgettably amazing reactions!
Wow thank you for making my day with this comment
My pleasure! @@EmpressReacts
Growing up with this in '80s #latchkey nation, I didn't appreciate this song. But it has grown on me and I love it 40 years later. It's their best song. It takes you places, along with the video.
Fantastic song from Culture Club. Possibly my favourite of theirs along with Miss Me Blind. They had so many great tracks. Such a great vibe on this, Boy George's vocals are so smooooth.
💯
When I was 13 or 14 Boy George used to live down the road and he hung about with Martin Degville from Sigue Sigue Sputnik. I didn't know him but me and my friend were just young boys, you know, laughing about him looking like a girl and all that stuff. At that time, people like him were rare. But my friend's older brother, who would have been George's age said: "Yeah, well I'd be careful what you're saying if I were you because he's quite handy with his fists when he needs to be." :-)
What a great voice he has though.
Wow!
ok just looked up the back up singer her name is helen terry , boy george met her at a london club , she has an amazing soulful voice
💯
Yay! More culture club! 🤩 my fave band
I never was a big fan but THIS song is one of the greatest pop songs ever made.
💯
I loved George back in the day. If you want to hear George like you've never heard him, check out a solo album of his called Cheapness and beauty. It's a fantastic album but completely underrated. It's a whole different side of him. Also, if you haven't done Miss me blind from Culture Clubs second album, you might give it a try.
Good vid as always, love your energy.
✅. Thank u‼
1:30to 1:40 you always make me laugh empress, this was and still is one of my favorite groups , whats not to like about the group , great voice , back up singer or singers , and the feel of the song/songs , again and as always love your reactions !!!

Helen Terry is the back up genius
🔥
Background vocals: the utterly amazing Helen Terry.

Culture Club-Victims❤
One of my all time favorite songs! Can't deny George has got alot of soul. Love his voice. They've got alot of great hits. Great reaction!
Such a beautiful boy in the 80s coming out like he did in a big splash onto the scene and well received by men and women globally. I love his style of music then and this is my favourite song of theirs, catchy beginning. Britain had good stuff happening on the music scene during the 80s.
Thank You to whoever pick this one for Empress 🙌🏾 I knew someone would finally get to this Culture Club masterpiece. I tried, but this song is too personal and I always hesitated 😥❤
sooo 🔥🔥
@@EmpressReacts Thank You fam. Based on your caption, I could tell you enjoyed the song. Happy for you.
I recommend, "I'll Tumble for Ya" "Love is Love" and "The War Song" especially "Karmachameleon" which is their biggest hits !!! And later in the 90s Boy George's solo hits "The Crying Game" and "Everything I Own"
As a straight guy I can admit I love culture club
He is so beautiful 🤩🤩🤩
Almost every song he wrote back then was about the dysfunctional love affair with guy you see playing drums, Jon Moss.
Oh wow‼🤣I knew it had to be close to homw
Yes I was fan of his gorgeous voice also
Absolutely beautiful song
Fond memories of southern Florida...It was always on the radio back then..
Funky as hell track and vocals, love it
💯
This song is awesome! Later on that decade Bonnie Raitt made "Nick of Time" (1989). Those two songs are about how precious time is.
When this was released, loved their first hit Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, but this track proved they were no one hit novelty, and Time instantly became my favorite by Culture Club.
my fave CC song. if you have Sirius in your car, this comes on at least every few hours on the 80's channel.
I love this song still..
You by far have the best reaction videos. Respect beautiful queen!
Thanks 😘
Mtv was so good back then! and VH1 And night tracks! yes i am that old!
The instrumental version is just as good

Though playing the keytar in this clip, Mikey Craig is such an underrated Bassist.
I think the instrumental of this pop charmer was called Romance Beyond...?
Ooo an instrumental
Romance Beyond The Alphabet, I think?
Time is their best song
too many to name.

All time fave
When I first saw/heard Boy George, I fell in love.
Of course, Boy George was way out of my league and, now, Boy George aged into a bald fuddy-duddy (like me).
Time seems to be harsher on the beautiful
💯😂

@@EmpressReacts EMP, if you want to throw up 11's across the board, you need to listen to some of the songs that I mention.
Thank u for this👏 plz to react to Do You Really Want To Hurt Me🤞
You sound like a disney character lol :)
I've never been a huge CC fan but, there are a few songs of theirs I do like, this being one of them. It reminds me of when I was about 16/17 and first started going to the gay bars. I had a fake ID and looked/acted a lot older than I was. Lol. Btw, now I look/act a lot younger than I am. thank goodness! Lol 😁
🤣🤣life
You look younger also? Says who? Lol
I hope you use some of this Patreon money to get a better camera.
hahaha
This is a track that when I see come up, there is a definitive: if she doesn’t like this I’ll have to unsubscribe. 🤷🏽
so you still with me or nah😎😂
I ain’t gon lie to you Empress, his voice don’t sound all that good now a days. 💀Very raspy and not as smooth.
Still a great person tho. One of my fave artists!
