On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Next video: F-15C with AIM-174!
Can you do a dog fight with these? I know its not meant for that but i would like to see how a stress test goes. How many turns till the wings break (if they do) do the wings just bend? How much do you habe to labor to make hard turns? Purely a stress test.

Hahaha yaaaaa I thought that might stress some of you out.
Same reaction here, NGL

Need the AIM 174 on the F15-EX
Poseidon, AWACS, C-130, B-52s, tankers... HumVees :)
The F-15EX's radar with (four? six?!?!!) of these strapped to its wings sounds unfair. And I'm here for it.
Imagine that plus F-22s and F-35s with AIM-260s (comparable performance to Russian and Chinese hypersonics but with much better seeker heads) fitting in the same space as an AMRAAM and then complemented by the Peregrine (similar performance as the AMRAAM but half the size/twice the carry).
@@themuaddib the EX could probably carry 6
14:11 "That's an old missile, don't worry about it. It's already dead, no energy, the seeker just sees me... No problem."
*Immediately explodes? 😂 Come on man, you've got a reputation to uphold 😆
One AMRAAM Left!!! Enemy AWAC would have given you the ACE!!!
Yeah, I wondered about that oversight too.
So is the A-50, but he's not complaining. 😂
One thing I find interesting g is the interservice rivalry effecting the use and deployment of both the AIM-174B and AIM-260. From what I know, there is concern in the Navy that for the first 2-3 years of it production run, the Airforce is going to hog all the AIM-260's for itself and the Navy will receive small, infrequent delivery's of the missile. That is one of the main reasons it developed the AIM-174B, not only does it have a massive range exceeding that of the AIM-260 (albeit it is very large and cumbersome), but it is a Navy missile and the Navy controls who gets it. What we are likely to see is the Navy will have a near monopoly on the AIM-174B and it's future developments while the Airforce will have a near monopoly on the AIM-260 and it's developments, trading with each other for the others missile to get a balanced loadout.
Well said.
Remember the SM-6 and AIM-174B are multirole missiles. That means they have more SM-6 type missiles not having to be in Vertical Launch Containers but still usable by the fleet AEGIS systems! The VLC's can run out and then you go home, but if you use a pile of AIM-174's on F18 SH you have a much longer time in theater before leaving. It will be interesting to see the exact tactics the Navy comes up with. The 174B has a 148 lbs warhead that can strike a specific area in a target ship or jet or ballistic missile. So not so much a rival idea to the AIM 260 which has to fit in stealth bays for the USAF.
Get the SM-6s the Navy already have on hand and modify them for air launch is a brilliant way to bring back the Navy long lost ability since AIM-54s retired.
John Boyd reported exactly this silly rivalry in the 1970s. Not sure if anything has changed or not.
@@charlesrichardson8635 Super, excellent point about no at-sea reloading of RIM-6, but AIM-174s are good to go night and day.
Also, ceiling on -174 is greater than 110,000ft. Good luck hiding in the hills from that.
Now just imagine a B-21 Raider carrying 8 AIM-174B's. By the time your adversary found out about it, it would be over with already.
That's a scary thought. Assuming the AIM-174Bs weren't too long and fit in the internal bay, a B-21 could conceivably carry a full dozen of them, mayb emore. She'd be a real aerial sniper.
Agree and maybe spice the kill factor with either F-35 or F-15EX escorts versus SU-35s???
@@namyun2743 The SM-6 *with the external booster* is 0.5 ft shorter than AGM-183, which can fit within a B-21.
@@namyun2743 BONE-R would be epic. B1A Mach 2.2 speed and 75,000 lbs of hate! 20+ if only limited by weight.
Man A B-21 gun truck , a F-35 providing targeting and a wedge tail in the rear for BF management ! Man we could actually defend Taiwan in a peer to peer
I crewed F-16's for 10 years. it can handle that missile. We ran JDAM's in IRAQ for months on the wings.
Unusual for you to win the fight and then not go pluck to wings off the AWACS.
Very rare indeed😂
Hmm, I seem to recall hearing about a nation that recently received some vipers, a nation who are somewhat known for jury-rigging absolutely everything and making it work and who also happen to fly missions that are pretty much all about standoff range due to heavy sam coverage near the frontlines. I wonder what would happen if they found a few shipments worth of SM-6's and maybe some instructional suggestions to go with them?
I love when you do missions with the SM-6, mainly because watching that _massive_ thing launch off the rail is the most satisfying thing ever
I love how 174 = 120+54
I'm starting to understand why the F-15EX is the Air Force's new darling. How many SM-6's can it carry? And, how far away can it get a radar lock? Yeah. It's going to be like a flying Arleigh Burke.
Strapping it to the F-15C with it's amazing radar sounds even better, GS! Not to mention it's a much heftier plane and can probably more comfortably carry the missiles.
Tomcat pilots are jumping in the air, waving their arms, screaming 'Me, Me, Me', I bet.
More like Super F18 pilots
Put it on the E! That thing probably has the single best radar in DCS!
How about a modernized F-14??
With the Viper's limited radar, you _definitely_ need AWACS or F-35 datalink to provide a firing solution and target tracking to get the benefit of the AIM-174B.
I would assume it would be using the APG-83 instead of the -68
APG-83 would see a Su-35 from around that range
Please fly the new Aim-174 against an Eurofighter with Meteors. Love your vids! ❤
Thanks for always repping the beautiful viper, brother. Any chance we'll see more block 70/72 in the future 👀
That's absolutely hilarious you started tipping after you fired the first one 😂😂😂😂😂
The F-16 fighting falcon is a jet that is no joke and you should not be messing with!
The SM-6 is capable of reaching 150+ miles when launched from a ship. It's also capable of being guided by data link. It's a very impressive missile with a lot of potential uses.
So what makes the -174 special is that it can be directed by multiple data link sources. The range is absolutely 200 miles, and that's achievable because the plane can launch it with no radar contact, but a more forward radar location can pick up the missiles data link and guide it in before it goes Pitbull. If command and control has to be passed along more than once that is also an option. Making long range missiles is easy, communicating with one accurately beyond line of sight is much harder.
I was hoping you were gonna go polish off their AWACS as a final insult!
mass-wise, i think strapping two AIM-174Bs onto an F-16 is perfectly doable. if you consider that an f-16 can drag two 2,000lb bombs around, and that the SM-6 weighs about 1,500lbs after the Mk 72 booster is removed (as we see here in the AIM-174B), there shouldn't really be anything physically stopping the air force from hitting up the navy and being like "hey AIM-260 is taking too damn long hook us up with some SM-6"
Public estimates I've seen put the AIM-174 at ~1800lb, so the F-16 will probably be able to carry these on a station that can carry a 2000lb bomb. It would absolutely have to be flown very carefully in CAT III while they're still on the wings though.
Another point you might have made about “maximum range” is that the maximum “burn time” of the motor is only a fraction of the max range, so after that it’s only “coasting”, and having to maneuver eats away at its range. Perhaps that’s a reason that they usually “loft” early in flight: if it had to climb during the “coasting” phase, it would quickly bleed off ALL its energy.
Back of the fridge thought: why hasn't Lockheed put DSI inlets on F-16s and cram the SNIPER Pod into the intake bump? Never mind the stealthy attributes, it would reduce drag and free up a pylon.
Um... hey bub. You have one AMRAAM left. Wouldn't you like to notch an A-50 on your hull? ;)
Clever switcheroo showing us the mig kill after saying “we should be ok” 😂
The best example to explain the missile launch parameters is like the slingshot or more similar analogy is shooting an arrow with a bow.
Interesting. Explain.
The F-16V will have two additional pylons freed up thanks to the CFTs. Even if they weren't these big fat bois, I wonder how its aerodynamics are affected by carrying 8 AMRAAMS...
unfortunately, it doesn't look like the usaf (or navy really) are going to be using cfts any time in the future.
@@cjcolehour2778the USAF uses CFTs on the F-15E.
You've still got an AMRAAM, the sky is clear and you didn't go after the AWACS?
He still had his GUN and the sky was clear. Sawing the enemy AWACS in half with the gun, after clearing out the fighters, is like fckn the captain of the cheerleaders of the opposing team after giving them an egg.
He forgor
would love to see this missle with either the F15C or F15E platforms. Would love to see the missle + radar combo
F-15C might not be able to handle that chonky boy. The F-15E should be able.
Think you could get 4 of them on a F-15E?
YAAS!
@@MattWaller04 Maybe more.
I thought one of the advantages of the 174B was that it could receive guidance from other assets, like surface ships, AWACS, or other aircraft. I'd love to see you leverage those capabilities of the missile rather than waiting for your own radar lock.
Video Suggestion: Now that the UKR Air Force has gotten ahold of its own F-16s, perhaps a mission in F-16AM in a ground attack role would be nice. Perhaps with older AIM-120B AMRAAMs that they are allegedly equipped with would be interesting. Mixture of A2G with HARMs and bombs and also A2A. Thanks GS!
Great fight ! The AIM-174B really levels the playing field. Just a bit surprised you didn't go for the AWACS kill after splashing them all.
It honestly looks like the aim-174b was made to fit the f-16 lol
LOL the AIM174B outranges the F16's radar range! It would need AWACS for final link guidance...
I think that's what the navy has planned, since the f18s radar wont be able to use full potential of the missile, the f35s are gonna be lot closer guiding them in on some data link or sumn
It's not the plane. It's not the pilot. It's the missiles.
At this point I feel like you could strap some SM-6s on a Sopwith Camel and, assuming that an AWACS or datalink F-35 could guide, it could be combat capable in 2024.
The chances of your Felon losing a BVR fight to a Sopwith Camel are low, but never 0.
I was sure you would get shwacked after boasting that the final missile was out of energy and was no danger.
Forgot the A-50! Nooo!
And the enemy AWAC..? You had dinner, now its pudding time!
This reminds me of an old project the air force worked on trying to mount Patriot missiles under the f-15
Hold on, didn't you forget their AWACS?
Who knew MiG 29s were so good at catching telephone poles?
A nice long and girthy object designed to penetrate hostile airspace and free an enemy pilot from the restraints of his cockpit.
Such loving care.
I like how the f-16s wings wobble mid flight. Look like they will fall off
Very well done with F-16 and demonstrated the possibilities.
Imagine with F-15EX with 4 of these, 6 AMRAAMs and 6 Sidewinders
How about the F-15 with the Aim-174B against the Eurofighter Typhoon with the Meteors?
Did the missile even detonate? Looked like the first MiG just got sledge-hammered by the kinetic force alone! lol
Still waiting for GS to drop his version of the BF3 F-18 mission “Going Hunting”
I loved that mission as a kid but going back to it, its funny how incompetent the "Migs" were (they were flankers lmao)
The missile look absolutely massive on the F-16!
My guess is the F-16 could carry two of them - it regularly carries good size bombs.
Firing telephone poles from a Viper. It's like Viet Nam SAMs strapped to a jet.
Can’t remember where I saw it but I’m remembering a f16 pilot talking about the air to ground load outs they would have on the f16 and how he had to blip the after burner to keep up with the aerial tanker, I’m saying this to say that the f16 can carry a pretty big payload and most likely can employ multiple SM-6s. Love to see it
bro i love your videos its been a fantastic

Ok, now we all need to see a pair of F15EX's with aim174 vs 4 J20 mighty dragons... 🤩🤩
What no "Its an old missle it will be fine." Followed by a black kia screen? A good day indeed.
i Want to see F15EX carry those AIM174B
I knew it was coming and I still flinched “Gods 1 Finger ☠️ Death Punch”🥊
They weigh around 890 kg so you could compare them with Mk-84's and carry them on the same pylons.... so you're fine :)..... there is an extensive analysis of the range by "Millennium 7 * HistoryTech".....
In terms of weight, I compared them to HARMS
Dude, that F-16 looked sick with the AIM-174B-SM6-Telegraph pole stuck to the wings.
Looked cool how the wings were moving. Awesome video as usual brother. Not blowing wind up your ass lol but I haven't seen one shit video on your channel man, and as you know, I've been subscribed and watching for a fair few years now. Glad I found it dude.
Rolling out with 1 AMRAAM left. Still armed. 😎
Holy cow! Firing that single AIM-174 reminded me of what bench pressing with one missing plate looks like😳
Put the aim-174’s on the F-15EX that would be the something to see.
I’d have gone after the A-50, too
Thanks for the very clear description of what and why you are doing things! Though the sim didn't see to do a good job of what a 148 lbs warhead would do to a jet! Also the max range from a surface launch is actually the AEGIS systems of multiple DD's leading it in. How did you know that energy of that last 77M was gone?
I would like to see the AIM 174 against the Mighty Dragon please!
Please fly The F-15EX VS The MIG-31 BVR!

Can't wait to see the video of the AIM-174B on an F-15C/E!!
Great! Little disappointed you didn’t go knock some engines off the awacs though
I’m amazed the f-16 can even lift a missile that heavy
"Millenuim 7* History Tech" estimated that the maximum kill range is around 385 miles/620kms.
We see the Navy is using the SM-6 on its F/A-18 aircraft for a 200 mile stick.
And not one chute. These guys got schwacked.
I was rooting for that last mig. Brutal lol
this missile and the f16 XL would be scary

I think that would entertaining as hell.

There should be no way to get into R-77 range, so im curious if there is a solution....

Yo GS, hope things are well. Great video as always. How about the Cat with SM6? Thanks have a pleasant. Cheers
I’d love to see you do the F-15 Eagle E with Aim 174 B. I think it’d be devastating
The conclusions of the author of the "Millennium 7 * HistoryTech" channel, based on some of his calculations, show that the true range of the Aim-174B missile is likely to be 620 kilometers, or about 400 miles.
I would imagine that an F-15 with its radar and these Toyota Prius sized missiles, would be probably the most dangerous thing in the skies, yes?
What? You didn't even pay that A-50 a personal visit and saw it in half with the gun! You be slacking on the job! :P
Dawg, we need to start getting some tac-view footage of those 174's. Those two impacts were at diabolical speeds 💀
Hey GS don’t get too rusty on that Tomcat…it’s been what 2 months? Love all your content, you do an amazing job mixing it up. Just helping keep you sharp! lol 😂
