    That's one beautiful piece of maple, which turned into a beautiful bowl. The first song was very nice.

    I love finding new makers to watch, i learn a new technique or about a new product every time. I love how the grain picks up that dye. The orange as a filler was a great idea.

    Another great project, Sam. We really liked the staining and the beautiful grain inside the bowl. Your videos are going from strength to strength, your commentary feels like you are actually talking to me and I'm in the workshop with you.

    To each his own. The shape and size of that bowl is great, but my opinion of staining the outside is nothing you would want to hear in public. I enjoy your channel.

      Thanks for the comment, Gary. Like you said its a matter of opinion some people don't like stains on wood and some do. I like experimenting with projects to see what i can do, and i except not everyone will like all my projects 👍👍

    Hi Sam, nice bowl.
    You say you need practise with the staining, I used the spirit stain recently but wasn't too happy with the finish when I applied with a cloth so the next one I did, I used an air brush and I was much happier with the finish. It left a more even finish.

    Great colorings. Impressed with the way you work. May I suggest you let us in your thinking. For example, you spent some silent moments looking at the unfinished staining process. I would benefit from knowing what you were looking at, looking for or noticing and what you intended to do about it. We turners spend a lot of time in our heads, observing, noticing and deciding based on our intent. That’s where your magic takes place. Looking forward to your next chef-d’oeuvre.

I think as you said my brain starts thinking about the next steps I'm going to take and I forget I'm recording. I will have to think out loud from now on. 👍 once again thanks for the comment and Merry Christmas 👍

    really nice, i'm glad you put the orange stain on at the end - using a colour opposite to each other on the spectrum helps them make each other pop. what wipe on finish did you use on the outside of the bowl?

    Love the effect you have got on the bowl. Please tell me what you think of the Axminster at1416 lathe as it’s what I’m hoping to get just after Christmas

    • @SamThomasTwistedCraftsUK
      @SamThomasTwistedCraftsUK  5 лет назад

      Thanks, Alan! So to lathe, I haven't got anything else to compare it to as this is my first lathe had it a year now. But I think it is fantastic, compact with the option of a bed extension, can turn up to 12" bowls and never had a single issue with it. I would suggest speaking to someone from Axminster as they are the professionals and can guide you in the right direction for what you want the lathe for etc. Hope that made sense 👍 and happy Christmas!! 👍👍

  • @NoahWoodarts
    @NoahWoodarts 5 лет назад

    In order to avoid those white lines apply colors while the lathe is stationary i guess. And im not sure if 180girst is up enough to apply colors. i prefer 320/400. your finish looks so nice. congrats.
