What he had to say about the track. "I wrote “D1” in a detox room in rehab. The badge on the door read: “D1” hence the name.
When I wrote this song I was at one of the lowest points of my life I have ever been. My desire to live was just a flickering candle in a dark black hole of despair… at this point in time Dirt Miller did not exist, so it was nothing but hope and dreams that my music would one day be heard. So to see this all starting to come to fruition is fucking amazing. I remember a conversation I had with my drug counselor named Holly. She was asking me what my plans were when I get out of rehab and I told her that I was going to try and pursue my music career. She then proceeded to inform me that I was a “Dime A Dozen” and that I should probably have a back up plan. Moral of the story. Don’t let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dreams. Thanks Holly, for lighting a fire under my ass!"
