    It's easier to remember what John Entwistle and Geddy Lee play. I know this from experience.
    To sit down and learn a Chris Squire bass line takes time. Concentration. Patience. You really have to sit down with it. There's so much to remember. A completely unique and talented individual, whose genius I feel has yet to be fully acknowledged and realised. Geddy acknowledges it at least. He's been doing his interpretation of The Yes Album and Fragile for years. With a smile. :)

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  3 года назад +10

      This was really a long puzzle! And, Yes - Geddy Lee always acknowledged Chris' influence, as Chris also about Paul MacCartney and John Entwhistle. Mutual respect... apparently getting less frequent nowadays. Thank you so much for your words.

    Thank you for choosing this song Miguel. It's my favorite song on Fish Out Of Water and I really enjoyed watching you play every note... I had a crappy day at work today and finding this video in my subscription list and watching it closely just totally cleared my mind of all that BS. Thanks again Bro..I needed to hear this song right about now :D

    A wonderful illustration of genius at work ably rendered by a true craftsman following in the footsteps. I am proud to say I acquired this album aged about 17 when it was originally released and pretty much wore my first copy out. Both of you make the bass guitar 'more' theres no better word to describe what you do. Chris Squire once actually looked at me as I was going mental at a yes concert 'grooving' to Starship trooper whilst his sparingly briliant rickenbracker bass notes were hitting me in the chest like punches. Our eyes met and he actually smiled as he looked down on me, right at the stagefront under his position. That acknowledgement that I was massively into his playing at well! an intense level, It was enough.

    • @miguelbass

      I really understand what you mean! I think I went to similar moments although I can't recall exactly the occasion, as being in the presence of Chris onstage frequently put me in such a dimension that I just remember flashes hard to put into words.

    That was great Miguel. One of my favorite of Squire's. I can't say I'm really sad about Chris' passing (I just hope he didn't suffer at the end) because the musical legacy Chris leaves behind is so amazing. I put him up there with the likes of Bach, Mozart and Charlie Parker. His musical brilliance will live on forever. He just is one of the most amazing bass players that ever lived and I'll always love him.
    Beautiful Bruford drumming in that song.

      Dan Kremnitz Thank you very much, Dan. I agree with you on your appreciation of Bill Bruford's drumming here. As all the instrumentation on the album is so excellent - it seems everything is in the right place and with the right dose.

    What can I say about one great musical genius. No one's ever played bass like that guy before. As a kid on cassette tapes I had recorded all the albums of yes I used to take myself to a secluded place to lower the car seats and just enjoy the peace of the beautiful music and of course the bass sections. I play on bass myself somewhat andIf it comes to me with my work as a hobby and vacation. Thank you Chris for the wonderful bass stock.

    The combination of Chris' bass playing and vocals along with Bill Bruford's drumming makes Fish Out Of Water more of a great Yes album than most of their post-Bruford albums. Lovely piece of work, one of my favorites all-time. And of course you play this beautifully Miguel..
    I read that Bill was surprised and pleased that Chris asked him to play on his first solo record, and that Chris asked him! Their sound together is the foundation of Yes music. ( Year later when Jon Anderson was putting together ABWH Bill said he would do it only if Chris wasn't a part of it, so I don't know what to think. I love both these guys! ABWH was a wonderful moment in the Yes story, but they were definitely missing Chris' bass and vocals!)

      After many years and decades thinking 'what are my fave Yes albums?' I come to the conclusion FOOW is in my top three Yes albums. I can't honestly rate Yes albums without having FOOW amongst them. It has the integrity and originality and classic vibe of a Yes album, and surprisingly good, even mystical, lyrics. E.g. 'All of the pieces fit but the puzzle carries on' - how profound is that? From Silently Falling.

    Discovering a video clip of CS's solo album on french TV in 1975 took me to listen to Yes. Earing CTTE first was a little bit ... disconcerting, but 50 years later Yes stands on the highest place in my musical universe, thanks to Chris Squire and his bass lines (Thanks Steve Howe too !). Listening to this song remembers me how good Chris was as a singer. Beautiful cover Miguel, as always. BTW how do you get that sound from 01:38 ?

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  4 месяца назад

      Daniel thank you very for the kind words.
      I remember when I heard that sound at the beginning of the solo part, I always thought it sounded amazing. It reminded me of a cello. we’re listening a mix of the original bass because I didn’t have a way to erase it, but I used a bass very similar to the one Chris plays: Telecaster, with brand new rotosound strings and no special effects were used.

    Felicitaciones Miguel, un gran trabajo has hecho. Es un tema muy difícil de Chris pero tu lo tocas muy bien. Alguien dijo que tu deberías reemplazar a Chris, no es mala idea, piénsalo.

    And I loved the faces you made while playing. That's how a true bassist plays.

    Hey Miguel! Long time watcher and big fan of all your covers. I am going to start a bass build here in the next month or so and I'm really considering building a telecaster bass like yours. I know it's a naturally muddy bass being that the pickup is very close to the neck, but does it clean up fairly easily to play most rock and prog music like you have it sounding here and would you recommend it? Thanks!

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  7 лет назад +1

      Hello! The Tele wasn't mine but since you are building one, you can add an extra bridge pickup - Chris did that - and if I ever take on a Tele project I will do it too. It will give you an extra option, although the one I played had a bright touch as well. Of course the fresh Rotosounds also help. Let me know how it goes!

    Fitting tribute, Miguel. :)
    I'd actually been listening to this song for ages and shredding to it myself. I also thought it was the Ricky double-strike for ages, and that's been the way I'd been going about the tone for ages. As on point as always.
    (Though I still like going about it like the Ricky. ;) )

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  9 лет назад

      Kyle Tekaucic Thanks Kyle! By reading some interviews I learned that it was the Tele bass. It should sound great on the Ricky too :)

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  8 лет назад

      +Bartzepfloyd Thanks! I didn't make a tab, I really take the notes by ear, although I do sometimes make standard transcriptions. Hopefully it will help you playing it!
