    Jon Anderson on his official website wrote: "Chris was a very special part of my life; we were musical brothers. He was an amazingly unique bass player - very poetic - and had a wonderful knowledge of harmony. We met at a certain time when music was very open, and I feel blessed to have created some wonderful, adventurous, music with him. Chris had such a great sense of humor... he always said he was Darth Vader to my Obiwan. I always thought of him as Christopher Robin to my Winnie the Pooh.
    We travelled a road less travelled and I'm so thankful that he climbed the musical mountains with me. Throughout everything, he was still my brother, and I'm so glad we were able to reconnect recently. I saw him in my meditation last night, and he was radiant. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.
    Love and light.....Jon"

      @@PepeLuguillo I won't take sides, but it's neat to study how Bruford played great high tom/cymbal to get over Squire (who tended to live in higher registers) and gave those tracks a delicate, jazzy feel, while White (thanks to advances in amplification) could thunder below him and shake the seats. Nice that we got both approaches. Also why I love Tony Kaye for realizing the rhythm section isn't playing straight rhythm, so the keys probably should be filling that role.

      have you watched the rig rundown for Chris & Steve Howe? Coolest info for me was describing using both pickups individually, going to two amps. He used both jacks on the bass, one cord went to one amp and the other cord went to a different amp.

      @antduude 7 лет назад

      Hadn't seen it before, but just watched it. Thanks for the heads-up. Quite an array of interesting basses shown off there. I like that after all this time, he still used the original Rickenbacker from '64, and that he was inspired in his sound, by Jon Entwistle(the Who Live at Leeds has some of the chunkiest, aggressive bass I've ever heard). Anyway, thanks for the tip. Now I'm off down Memory Lane again. ;)

    Yes created some magical music that has never grown old
    Chris was a huge part of this and his bass playing frankly awesome
    His fluid interplay with Bill Bruford in particular on their albums together amazes me every time I listen
    To me he helped redefine what the instrument could do and his position amongst the most stellar musicians that play 'rock' music is assured.

      I've noticed Everytime I watch a music video by a virtuoso and there are negative comments but silly ones. Not genuine critical assessments, just saying someone sucks or kids at guitar center play better. Those kind of comments. Without exception it is always a novice musician who has played a few months or couple years and think they know all of music and what is "good" and what "sucks". It's not like on RUclips where you have an amazing brilliant Musician like Richie Blackmore talking and bashing all of his contemporaries. Yeah, no.. It's some guy who is a terrible guitar player but has some odd delusions. Whether to make them feel better about their playing. Or whatever the reason. It used to bother me. And I've had upwards of a thousand arguments on here over the years. I don't do it anymore. It's a waste. And I am a musician. Do you know out of every single time I argued and said they must be an awful musician trying to make themselves feel adequate. And to upload a little clip of them playing right here. I'll say it's easy. There are dozens of apps where u can literally record this very second and then instantly upload it. I can do it. Anyone can. Do you know no matter what I say or ask or push or press. Not one single person has ever. I can fucking shred on a guitar. If someone said that about me and I could prove them wrong, I would literally just record a ten second thing and reply it. There is not one actual reason not to. And they never have. Cause I'm right. They are just awful musicians. That's it. No exception. Ever

    Per il mondo del rock, e anche per me, è un colpo davvero duro da digerire ...... rip CHRIS SQUIRE ha segnato un epoca nel mondo della musica prog-rock grazie al suono del suo basso sempre riconoscibile per le innovazioni tecniche e agli effetti che utilizzava. La scelta di mandare il segnale dal suo leggendario Rickenbacker su due ampli diversi (uno per basso e l'altro per chitarra), l'utilizzo di effetti fino a quel momento utilizzati solo per ala chitarra, ne hanno fatto uno dei grandi maestri dello strumento, al punto di ispirare intere generazioni di musicisti. Co-fondatore della storica band prog-rock degli YES è l'unico elemento che ha preso parte a tutti i dischi realizzati dal gruppo. CULT

    That's not "bass." That's Pure Genius!!
    So many talented bass players out there, yet, they sound like... bass players. This is something else: complex, multi-dimensional, and so Melodic! It's a completely different instrument in his hands...
    RIP, sir. What a loss for the rest of us!

    That man is one of the reasons why I started playing the bass @ 16. I even bought a Rick 4001 when I was 18. But I soon realized that it wasn't the instrument, but the player, that made it sound good. Kudos to you Chris, may you rest in peace sir.

    Wow! I never like Rickenbacker Basses. But Chris Squire and Paul McCartney were the only 2 that can make those basses sing. That solo Chris did proves it. That bass along with his awesome pick playing made that bass sing! God I'm gonna missed that sound! Another ICON gone! May Chris RIP.😢

    Good tone and content on this crossover fusion- style bass solo. He's out front and working a preset format with the drummer to make his melodic and percussive statements. Like the harmonics loop he uses as backing track and doubling of phrases at spots for dramatic effect. Rest in Peace, Chris.
