Persian food is mild. There is no overpowering smell, taste, or colour because it is all about balance. Iranians use lots of dried fruits such as plums, barberries, and aromatic herbs and spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and saffron in most main dishes.

I guess you are having a go at Indian cuisine the reason it's spicy and aromatic or smelly is because of the spices which remove toxins from your body that cause various illnesses ailments.

I tried to post a response... I failed. Attempt no. 2: Persian food is very sophisticated. Persians and Arabs both squeeze lemon juice in their soup. You are right that it enhances the flavour. The marinated and perfectly cooked poussin hidden under a mountain of luxuriously prepared rice, with a salad decorating the edge of the serving platter, did look absolutely appetising. I could almost smell the aroma. 😊 The tea looked delicious as well. Everything was so beautifully presented. The staff at the restaurant must be chuffed with your review. I knew that you would rate it 11 or higher. You looked so happy with it all, as if it was beyond your expectations. I must visit the restaurant myself. Thank you for taking us along. Hi Gary ! This is a pleasant surprise - Persian food ! We've got that here in Sydney, too, and it is amazing . The way they cook rice with that buttery crusty bottom, wow. They are the guys who came up with biryani. They also built the Taj Mahal. And about barberries. You can still find them in English hedgerows, but wherever it's found, it's destroyed, because it harbours the wheat rust fungus. They love it in their jams, too. I think it's more interesting than cranberries. Beautiful restaurant. All their restaurants are beautiful. And I've always thought it's a great idea for any restaurant to sell their products in-house, like chilli oil, etc. I'll check out your new website and merchandise. Thanks, Gary. You're really pumping out the videos ! I think you just discovered something about Persian cuisine - you don't only get food, you get the culture. The late , great Anthony Bourdan had a whole episode dedicated to eating in Iran. It blew my mind. You can only get that in Iran. But for now, restaurants like Bamanoosh will do quite nicely. Iran gets a bad rap. But I've seen videos, people wandering the streets filming ( on You Tube ) and you know what, the girls are wearing similar fashions to what I see in Sydney, and people are genuinely happy. You want to know what people are really like, go to their country, and see for yourself, don't hear it from others or the main stream media. Thanks again, Gary !

Gary, the food looked gorgeous. Here is a recommendation for your scoring from now on - any establishment that you think exceeds the highest score of 10, give it a 10/10+ (plus or 10/10* (star) instead of 11, 12 etc. If you give it a 10+ or a 10* then this will be sufficient that the establishment exceeds the top mark you can give. It also means that no exceptional place is open to dispute or any further subjective / objective markings. In essence, markings in comparison wither others of equal stature become irrelevant as the standards are so good.

Great video. As I started watching this I poured myself a Turkish tea(after ages from my wardrobe), not very different from Persian Tea, full of rose petals, tea, cardamom...and enjoyed your meal a little more. As an Indian, Persian cuisine can be mild which is a good thing. My personal experiences have been mixed for the places I have tried it at, sometimes the meat tends to be dryish, and sometimes the flavors are not uniform, so I am glad everything was a 10 on 10 for you. May be next time you can try some dessert there too.

Wow Gary that's a huge statement to make about Bamanoosh and it's definitely a place I'll go out of my way to visit when I'm over near that area. It all looked totally delicious but not much of a descriptive review because you just couldn't put into words how good it was. Defo a top mark. You should have what you might call a "Golden 10" for situations like this. Great stuff 👏👏👍👍

I've not been a subscriber for long, but I was impressed from the start by how calm and natural your presentation style is. Would that more of the RUclips food review content providers would sometimes just relax into their work and stop trying too hard! No names because my point is a subjective one, but the - obviously genuine - sheer joy in your facial expression puts you a class above some.
I stay way up in the frozen North East but am determined to go on a road trip in my old camper van in order to sample at least a few of the venues that you enjoyed.
Keep up the good work and, someday soon, you might be at the guests' table on "Saturday Kitchen. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

What I love about Gary's channel is that it's an inspiration to cook at home.
He reviews places that make the kind of food we could all attempt, whether it's simple fish and chips, a hearty breakfast or a joyous evening meal. He shows us what good looks like (and bad) and there's so much to learn from.
I for one will now be looking to recreate a Persian style dish at home and share it.

My neighbours are Iranian and they occasionally give me food. It's absolutely delicious. I have the best neighbours. They describe themselves as Iranian but their cooking as Persian.
The soup looked absolutely fantastic. I like white plates too. Don't like the modern trend in table wear. The mains could not have looked more appetizing. Beautiful. That's a good main for £19. Look at all that rice and salad.
The lamb looked great. Love the crunch when Gary bit in.
There was enough food for two there, the tea looked like an event. Such a wonderful experience.
It's a 10. 😁 Even on price, that was very competitive. It's a 10 plus as you say Gary. Great review as always. Bring on 100k.

That looked really good Gary. The restaurant itself looked lovely and the food looked stunning and good generous portions too. Not like that dinner you had at Ramsay's place.
That looked so much better than the Persian meal my brother and I had at a Persian restaurant in Plymouth that Jay Rayner wrote a rave review about in The Observer last Summer. He must have been drunk the night he went there. I enjoyed my food but it didn't blow me away like I expected and my brother absolutely hated his. But now we know. Once again that looked superb.
Yes Persian food is much more fragrant and subtle than the hot burning chilli flavours a lot of people are used to and that suits me perfectly.

This video was especially good, Gary . So much so that I felt I wanted to watch it twice before commenting.I have invariably found Iranian's to be extremely courteous and refined. They have a proud, ancient and noble culture. Your choice of visiting a well recommended Persian restaurant was an exotic, culinary masterstroke.
My reactions as you showed us this restaurant were that this restaurant was indeed special. You could FEEL it and discern it.Heart and soul were strongly perceived in the beauty of the authentic decor and the personal decorative arrangements. This seemed much more than a mere " business".
I discerned a real heart to this restaurant . No doubt coming from proud Iranian owners.
I've no doubt that seeing the food itself was a real treat bit just for myself but for many other viewers because it all seemed so novel and 'un-encountered' before. It made this particular video exciting. How many food review videos can you honestly say that about, Gary?
The whole experience you had sounded sublime and very synergistic with all the different sensory components coming together to make a' whole' experience which transcended any of the usual words of praise.
When you can be fortunate enough to have an experience like you just had here, Gary, you elevate these food-tasting videos.
It's just as well you are the food reviewer you are because trips like this challenge you in a good way and bring out the best in you and what you are always attempting to convey to the viewer.
This beautiful and special restaurant; the exquisite food, and your personal experience here, lift one's soul. That's special and to be savoured.
I can see why you feel it's somewhere you want to go back to time and time again.
Thank you, Gary. Keep doing what you're doing.

I absolutely loved this review Gary, as always, well done! But..... part of me believes you loved this food so much because you've been eating way too many English dishes 😉 I mean, how difficult can it be to boil/fry/roast ingredients (eg peas/potatoes/meat). Us Brits typically don't do much, if anything ,by the way of spices, herbs etc and we definitely don't do presentation! This is yet another of your reviewed restaurants that has been added to my growing (thanks to you!) list to go try out! PS - I will even force myself and go try Pie and Mash someday, even though I think I already know how I'm going to be reacting to that dish! Thanks for the latest video Gary, wow a 12 out of 10 that takes some doing must be very special place. It looked amazing to be honest no mushrooms at all even better! It looks like you found a gem there. The quantity look huge as well. I’ve never tried Persian food myself, but I’m definitely gonna go there one day. If you’re looking for different foods, I can recommend a very good restaurant in London that I’ve been to a few times over the years in Bayswater. It’s called HALEPI it’s Greek traditional food a small family run business worth a look if you like Greek food Lamb etc. anyway, looking forward to the next video. Many thanks

My Aunt was Iranian and every time we visited (in the 70's/80's) from Stoke the food was always amazing. This video showed for the first time how I remembered how the food looked. Plus as you say tasty not spicy, a subtle but crucial difference. I would deeply enjoy if Iranian (Persian) food was as widely accessible as all other genres in the UK. By the way also including British varieties of traditional food, e.g. hotpot, scouse, various scones, north staffordshire oatcakes, etc on the popular food delivery sites would really help to diversify the choices available whilst hopefully keeping local food choices alive.

Welcome to our legendary cuisine Gary!! I'm so pleased it all went extremely well for you.
I wish I could be there to introduce and familiarize you with a few of our starters and main dishes as well as desserts and all those products on the shelves. In the previous video when you were in Salt Bae and tried the Baklava, I did mention tea with cardamom which is the same tea you had here. We normally have this tea after our meal with some Persian sweet such as Bamieh and Zoolbia. The barley soup looked very good and your main, Zereshk Polo, looked fabulous. I feel very happy you enjoyed our food and hospitality. Your great review is much appreciated.
