- I do like visiting some more traditional places at times in England so I've decided to pay a trip to Miller and Carter Steakhouse which has been on my list for a while considering how much I love going for steaks! Is it one of the best steakhouses in England? Let's find out.

Totally agree , I too thought steak was over initially but it redeemed itself . Also very impressed you left waiter a food tip . Hope he treats his guide dogs. Sorry couldn’t resist no disrespect intended just too good a chance to miss .
Visited a Miller & Carter as a result of your video Gary. Tried the same steak you had and my wife had the rump steak. Whole experience was top notch from start to finish, nice quiet ambience (which is more and more important to me the older and deafer I get :-) - brilliant service and the food was perfectly cooked and top quality. I think their sides match their steaks beautifully. Think it will be our go to restaurant when we want a treat

I completely agree - I live in Glasgow, so I won’t get much of an opportunity to visit restaurants that Gary has reviewed, but it is still a fascinating watch. The reviews are fair and honest - great viewing. Thanks.
Your review takes me back over 50 years ago when I shared a railway comparftment with a very nice American couple. He was a butcher travelling all over England teaching us how to prepare good steaks. He explained that our steaks were generally cut too thin as well as other mistakes.

I really like to put my hands up when someone changes my mind - I’ll be honest when I first came across the channel, I was like ‘yeah just another food blogger’ - wasnt really sucked in to the Channel !
But I found myself looking at more and more content - and yes the fact that it isn’t ‘over produced to suck you in’ actually is a good thing.
Gary seems genuine, something hard to find on channels.
Keep up the good work please sir, I do hope my honesty in comment is not taken negatively.

With unlimited Freshly made Coffees or Teas for an extra £ 1.50 👌 cooked by two lovely ladies in the kitchen and served by a charming Bar girl, this is less than I could buy the raw ingredients for , they had loads of other food on the menu , all reasonably priced , as you may remember I’m a retired Head Chef and it was truly truly amazing value , especially for people on a Budget , Huge respect too “ WetherSpoons “ Gary they need a visit from you , they deserve a mention £ 14.00 and change for Two very large Full English and unlimited coffee or tea for Two , Truly Outstanding 😊😊😊

You're spot on Gary, the steak was definitely medium. It's hard to cook a thin piece of steak to perfection I reckon but I'd prefer it a little more pink. Great review Gary :)

Was a lovely steak. Just needed to be cooked a little better.
If I am ever in the UK now (Not that often as the country is too pricy, and also too cold) The only place I eat out is Miller & Carter. I would have not had the salad or the chips as I find that the condiments/dressings that come with the steak are enough for me. I would also have had their 50-day-aged Rib Eye but rare. As you said it must be one of the best places to dine in the UK. Great Vlog as usual.

My experience with steaks is that they need to be reasonably thick for best results. My preference is a 1.5" thick steak. I'm glad you enjoyed your meal.

Steak was a little over but still looked tasty. However at the price point you expect it done right. Good review as always.

From memory I've had about 3 visits to Miller & Carter restaurants and never felt I got got value for money. Your review was rather good and fair. Since I retired I don't have the same income I had when I worked so paying £30 for a steak is beyond my budget and a glass of coke for £3.50 is extortionate. I did look online and my nearest Miller & Carter offered the 'earlybird' specials until 5pm but I was disappointed they didn't have any actual steaks 😫 the nearest to a steak was a steak sandwich !

For me Gary that steak was spot on definitely looked a nice meal i find M n C a bit hit and miss where i live in South Wales if you find a good restaurant its always a nice meal but i have had a few poor meals elsewhere great content Gary as usual channel is absolutely flying.

I always enjoy the food and relaxed atmosphere at M&C, it is my go to place when entertaining as they are always excellent. Even if more expensive than other places it certainly is one place that can justify it. cheers

It looked wonderful. You could have easily given it a 10 after the waiter made his very kind (and true) comments but you were honest as always and gave it an 8.5. I would visit Miller & Carter on the strength of this review. Another great video.

I would go there for sure as the steak looked really good (I like mine medium-well done) and the place was very nice inside. Good service is a plus too and NO SERVICE CHARGE !!!!!!! - OH MY GOD !! Always worth tipping for good service but not as a rule of thumb on the bill if it wasn't. I enjoyed your video once again Gary & STAY DRY my friend !!

Looks great and a good score a fair score I been to one or 2 and I think it’s a fair reflection standards are very good in this chain and service has been in my experience very good another cracking review

First time i went to a Miller & Carter i ordered ribeye, I normally have my rump steaks rare, when i asked for my ribeye rare, the waitress suggested medium, it was absolutely brilliant. As for all the chefs on here saying they could do better, it's funny reading the drivel of the deluded. Great review as always.

Been three times in different restaurants and all have been average at best
As a Newfoundlander who lived in the UK 10 years I always tipped. Miller and Carter in Liverpool was great when we were there for a weekend break.

Went to a butcher's shop in Prague recently (Kantyna), which had a canteen attached. Anything off the fresh slab cooked to order and a choice of simmering beef cheek, braised wotever or oxtail stews. Had a 14 inch marrow bone cooked for me too. Served with mash and mixed veg. A blinder if you ever visit

Great clip as normal Gary, i must admit i would have paid the extra £5-55p and gone for the 50 day aged 10oz Fillet, i just think for that little extra its an amazing quality upgrade on the meat.
Iv seen the onion loaf and Salad wedge in a few of your clips now, it must be a new trend that's come out, as iv not come across it before until your great clip's.
I think 8-5 as a score was about right in all fairness, just find it so hard when they do chips at only an extra £1-50 then charge £3-50 for a coke.

Hi Chris. Thanks, I was going to give it an 8 originally but decided to change it to 8.5 as the steak was excellent. I do love a fillet but I feel a ribeye has more flavour even though the fillet is more tender. Have a good rest of your Sunday!

I have a serious question Gary: Have you ever asked any Restaurant whether their Beef and/or Steak is BOEUF - 'BEEF' or VACHE - 'COW' ?? And Yes, there is a big difference - certainly in texture and quality !!!

Delighted to see that at least one Miller & Carter can cook onion loaf. It would be lovely if this branch could teach the Harlow branch how to cook it crispy instead of Harlow’s soggy version. I love Miller & Carter but I love onion loaf so it is important that my nearest branch learns how to cook it - please 🙏

Only eaten at one of the branches once but I was quite impressed by them. Since having a child eating out is not particularly easy 😂

We went there for Christmas dinner a few years ago and it was literally no different to when we went on an ordinary day (we had the Chateaubriand first time and had steak and prawns for Chrimbo), in fact, maybe a step down from the first time - and this was Christmas Dinner! It's good, but you've got to put more effort in for Christmas Day, particularly when you're charging top dollar.

I think it depends which one you visit. The one in Colchester is superb and each time we went it was great, the manager was great and very welcoming. . The one in Bursledon Southampton we've been to twice, we gave them benefit of the doubt first time, but the second time we had to ask for the table and chairs to be cleaned as there was old food everywhere.

Not normally a big fan of chain restaurants, but you cant go wrong with Miller and Carter, always good.

Had many ( 30+) fantastic meals at M&C hockley heath. worked my way through the menu several times. Always first rate.

Living about 20 minutes walk from the Plough I have had a few pints in there over the years until it was turned into a Miller and Carter. After that I have not been back assuming it was now just another expensive chain steak house, however having seen your review I have decided to treat myself to a meal there for my birthday. The food looked very good and I am looking forward to trying it. Oh and I think the camera man tampered with your umbrella when you weren’t looking, revenge indeed!

When i worked for mitchell and butler i got 33% discount for miller and carter which my parents loved. being a chef, cooking steaks right can be a challenge. the chef did ok to be fair but i would had cooked the tomato and chips a bit more personally!

Gary, a very fair revue and Miller and Carter are quite a decent chain of steakhouses. I think your marking was fair, I probably would have given it a 9 but thats just down to how I viewed the steak to have been cooked for me. 😀

What amazes me is when beef has been aged 50 days it has any blood left in it, that you would know if it was blue, rare, medium rare or otherwise. The steak did look very nice and it should be tasty, when coming from the fore-quarter of the animal, always the tastiest parts where you get your braising and stewing steaks from. One thing I would of liked with that meal was some ratatouille, lovely tomato and aubergine flavours would of gone well I think. I would slow down on the dripping gravy though Gary, I can hear your arteries hardening from here😀 Another interesting and tasty video, and adding comedy as well, keep it up!

The liquid that leeches out of a steak isn’t blood but myoglobin, a protein in the meat
When I saw the onion loaf I thought it was a large piece of pork crackling. I’ll have to get out more, never heard of onion loaf. Looked a good meal though.
The onion loaf was actually very crispy this time. I liked it!

Have you tried Buenos Aires in Richmond…..Great steak house not cheap but cheaper than Gauchos up the road. Nice restaurant and great meat. Well worth a try and a review
I've not been there. The cameraman recently told me that the Gaucho is good and he's sat outside before in the summer and said it's fantastic. I will take your word of it and see what I can do.

I go this restaurants on special occasions on average once a year i always have a good experience. I normally either order the ribs or sirloin steak depending who i go with. Next time i might give that 50 day aged ribeye steak a go based on your video. Great video
