Ooooh I totally hear your critique of his acting but I LOVE his voice. You should definitely check out his rendition of Maria from West Side Story. I think his acting there is great with the song and I love how he sings it.
Overreacting?? That climax is phenomenal and heartbreaking and gives it the emotion that befits the character's state of mind... It represents a complete and total breakdown, realising that she's lost her life, and the last stanza is indicative of being totally empty and gutted.
Exactly. You know how many failed aspiring musical theatre actors/singers become grifting “professional coaches” and “professional master teachers” just because they just couldn’t make it themselves? I’ve seen it countless times myself lol. Musical theatre is a heightened art form. Just as it should be. Would you criticize a classical Shakespearean actor this way? Or an opera singer? Or ballet dancer? Didn’t think so. The jealousy is palpable lmao.

It’s interesting that you didn’t like Jeremy as Jack in Newsies. Have you seen him as Clyde Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde? That’s an interesting performance. He replaced the original Clyde when the guy got poor reviews. I’ve seen footage of the first Clyde, and I think Jeremy is much better in the role. He brings life to Clyde in a way that Stark Sands did not. I’d love to see you react to: When I Drive, Bonnie, or Too Late to Turn Back Now. ‘Drive’ and ‘Too Late’ are physical-acting heavy songs. While ‘Bonnie’ is an intimate moment.
I would love to see you react to Jeremy Jordan in Season 2 of Smash. Also just reactions to performances by Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty from Smash Season 1/2
I was waiting for a Jeremy Jordan reaction! I personally am i huge fan😍but i get your point😉 by the way i'd love your reaction to his Santa Fe in newsies! I Loved It and It was one of my favourites renditions of the song! So i would love to hear your take on It! Also more miscast performances! Aaron Tveit and Gavin Creel anyone?
Kicks and mannerisms and belts aside, I'll give him this -- he delivers the line, "and now I've got you," 6:13 in a way I have not heard before: Rueful. Until I heard this rendition, I never quite felt its significance.
He’s amazing and he can overact, under-act or just stand there and I’d be happy to watch. I understand you’re doing this from another viewpoint (and I can’t hold a tune!). He’s just incredibly talented!
When you say he overacts its funny because you are also acting when you raise your eyebrows and put your fingers close to your chin to elucidate that you are absorbing the moments of the song. Its all relative on who we think is over acting vs who is giving a really great performance.
Oh my god I was very offended at you not liking Jeremy Jordan initially, but you have a point with his overacting. I enjoy it though haha, I LOVED It's all coming back to me now. He just seems to really love performing. And his range is amazing. I love him, he has fun on stage, and I really really like that.
I love Jeremy Jordan and I totally agree with you about him overacting, he's gifted with amazing vocals but he's too restless in his acting and full with fidgety energy.
Please do Kara Lindsay in Newsies “Watch What Happens” please please please!! I love that song and performed it for an audience one time and I really messed up a couple parts of it but thankfully the audience was very forgiving 😅 anyway, I want to know what you think of her broadway performance. Just found your channel and am greatly enjoying it!
Two other great examples of gender flips which it might be interesting to see your reaction to are Lin Manuel Miranda and Raul Esparza doing "A boy like that" also from miscast and then Ryan McCartan doing "Dead Girl Walking" from Heathers. Both lean a bit more into the comedy angle of the gender issues but I wonder how you would rate that aspect of the performance
His good...... Since its Broadway song....... Hope you can react also to MORISSETTE AMON Broadway Sessions at home singing She Used To Be Mine, Defying Gravity, Someone Like You, Home👑😍❤️ thanks a lot😍.......
I'm strictly audience, but I love theatre- it makes me cry. I'm missing going to NY to see the magic, and I am enjoying your channel because it will help me be a more discerning fan. My whopping 3 musicals on Broadway have been Carousel (3 years back), The Band's Visit and My Fair Lady at Lincoln Center.
My only beef with this is that you really hit on Jeremy Jordan's overacting but I don't think he does - in terms of musical theatre. There's a BIG difference between film/tv acting and theatre acting (even between plays and musicals), which I think you know, and I don't think it's entirely fair for you to harp on him for giving that big musical theatre-like performance when he's performing a piece from a musical. I think I would understand this more if he were singing a pop song or even just singing this on a TV show but singing this song in this context doesn't really warrant that in my opinion.
You've given me a great idea for an upcoming masterclass topic. I unfortunately disagree with pretty much everything you've said here. There is a major difference between actions and reactions that suit the character and are believable and genuine. VS actions that are exaggerated, out of context and dont't fit the intentions of that character. The latter is what I refer to as "over-acting". This applies no matter if you're acting for film/TV, plays or musicals.
Yuh you ever hear of the lightning thief musical? George Salazar sings a few songs like The Tree On The Hill and Another Terrible Day. It's outstanding how different he can make his voice sound within the two different songs (since he's plays two diff characters in each song)
I agree that he overreacts but I think it works for him.. maybe because I know people who are ~all that~ in real life haha but I kinda think it works for Jeremy.. you know shit is getting serious when his eyebrows goes like /\ haha I love that
I lost my voice for 4 months after my sisters death. I was finally able to go to a specialist in philly. They gave me certain exercises to do which restored my voice. But I always wanted to learn how singers keep their tongues down and almost hollow. How i wish I could do that. Can you be taught that?
Thank you for sharing Kyle. In my experience a lot of improper tongue positioning comes from too much tension in either the jaw, lips or tongue. There are a few techniques that can be used to try and relieve this tension. I can perhaps make a video on this soon.
Can you react to the Jessie Mueller version? At the Toni awards, I was told she had laryngitis while performing and still killed it. I don't know if she was really sick but the performance sticks with me.
Marc I've recently discovered your reactions and have enjoyed them -- I, as others have stated appreciate your take on more than vocal technique, especially character interpretation and masterclass style review -- let's see more of it. One small thing I can't believe you didn't comment on...at the 9.38 mark of your video, I think the best choice Jeremy made in this entire performance is when he used the microphone to "mix" the pie ingredients to match the lyric "She is all of this, mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie". thanks and I look forward to more!
Full disclosure: I'm only just becoming familiar with Jeremy Jordan, and my experience is mostly with straight plays rather than musical theatre, so take the following with a grain of salt... :) In general he seems more focused on his own performance than on the story, or what the character needs moment-to-moment. Gorgeous voice, no argument there. Some great choices too, again no argument. But it's like he's commenting on what's happening to the character (from the outside), rather than living what's happening to the character (from the inside).
Have you watched him sing "Broadway here I come"? That killed me (bad choice of words there for obvious reasons but maaaan) - it's amazing. Please react to that at some point, would love to hear your thoughts, I always learn so much! Or Santa Fe, obviously.
I would love to see your reaction and hear your thoughts on Jessie Mueller's performance of this song at the Tony's. She apparently had laryngitis at the time but did a fantastic job anyway.
Someone should explain to Jeremy Jordan that he has a naturally expressive face and gesticulations so he can't throw his whole self into acting in the same way other people do.
It took me some time to warm up to Jeremy Jordan because I didn’t care for the accent he did in Newsies. I thought it was a little much. Plus I was pretty attached to the Christian Bale version of his character. But once I got over that and started listening to him do other stuff, it turns out her can do ANYTHING. He has crazy range and rarely ever hits a false note. I could agree that he might over-act when he’s singing sometimes: sometimes I wish he would just sing as himself rather than playing a character. But he can really sing any piece and the quality of his voice is so lovely. I’ve seen bootleg videos of his performance in “Waitress” as Dr. Pomatter was really, really impressive.

Love your channel but after your commentary I search out the recording to hear it without interruption and try to remember all your comments. Could play the musical number before or after your breakdown ?
I loved this, and thought it was a terrific performance. Jeremy always seemed so connected to the song, and he's willing to throw away beautiful singing for those little emotional moments (it's so great that you point that stuff out -- that sometimes perfection is not best for performance). I also am always a fan of people who are willing to play a song more internally and quietly, to allow it to build, but without letting it overtake them (which I felt happened on Shoshanna's take, that you also reviewed). This was lovely and a pleasant discovery for me. Thanks for the analysis!
Aww mannnn was this streamed???? I missed it! 😭 Jordan's okay but he's singing this song like he's in a talent show, I prefer the broadway version, just saying. That said, please do Ben Platt next singing Waving Through a Window or Words Fail? Great vid, I gotta admit I'm loving this series! Please keep making them 👍
Oh how I don’t love giving a musical theatre actor a handheld mic. It’s like giving them a prop. They have to figure out how to “act with it” and then make it work with the performance. I wish that more of these performances could use the same or similar head mics that they use on stage.

I was hoping to get a video from you today! This was perfect. I love your reaction videos, as well as your masterclass ones. It's really so fun just to watch you watch a performance and tell us about it! So anything you post, I'll be here for. I do have to agree with you, Jeremy Jordan is a fantastic singer, and definitely an over-actor sometimes! That's why his Jack Kelly doesn't totally work for me, he overdoes some of the emotional moments (Santa Fe reprise comes to mind), which takes me out of the story and makes me worry for his pipes! Thank you for your time in creating these videos, please keep it up!
I did musical theater from 3rd grade through high school. I can't tell you how much I miss it. It was such a huge part of my life and who I thought I would be. Watching these performances and your reactions makes me a little nostalgic and it's bittersweet, but in the best way possible! Thank you!
I hate that everyone is reacting to this Miscast performance because it's not his best performance of the song. I LOVE Jeremy with all my heart but this performance is my least favorite. I have seen a LOT of performances of Jeremy on RUclips, and here you can tell how nervous he was. He was performing this song for the first time and Sara was sitting right next to him and he had to sing her song in front of her. I trully believe that he didn't mean to make that big kick! I know that he has performed the song a lot since then but to me his best performance of the song is the second time that he had ever performed it here: ruclips.net/video/JCsgeuY4Zx0/видео.html
To be fair, I liked the performance overall. And honestly its gets me when ppl say "here use this version of the performance instead, it's better". I'm not looking for the "best" version of everything, I'm reacting to what I see. Thats the beauty of any LIVE performance, you're only as good as you are on the day.

I’d love to see you react to: When I Drive, Bonnie, or Too Late to Turn Back Now. ‘Drive’ and ‘Too Late’ are physical-acting heavy songs. While ‘Bonnie’ is an intimate moment.
I'll make a Santa Fe reaction soon enough, to share my thoughts.
Jeremy Jordan is amazing. He kills this song. Overacting? He’s a Broadway star and acts like one.
I would love to see you react to Jeremy Jordan in Season 2 of Smash. Also just reactions to performances by Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty from Smash Season 1/2
Oh Smash...a show that should have done so much better.
I was so sad when it ended!
I loved Smash! It was so underrated and definitely did not get as much attention as it deserved.
I would love a reaction to “Second Hand White Baby Grand” from Smash - I thought Megan Hilty nailed it. Also “Moving the Line”.
You should react to jeremy jordan the love i meant to say, from the tv series smash :)
Santa Fe I will get to for sure.
@@MarcDanielPatrick oooh yes😍
Kicks and mannerisms and belts aside, I'll give him this -- he delivers the line, "and now I've got you," 6:13 in a way I have not heard before: Rueful. Until I heard this rendition, I never quite felt its significance.
Great video!
What about the Greatest Showman?
You could also react to Loren Allred's live performance of "Never Enough"
He’s amazing and he can overact, under-act or just stand there and I’d be happy to watch. I understand you’re doing this from another viewpoint (and I can’t hold a tune!). He’s just incredibly talented!
I actually desagree about the kick
When you say he overacts its funny because you are also acting when you raise your eyebrows and put your fingers close to your chin to elucidate that you are absorbing the moments of the song. Its all relative on who we think is over acting vs who is giving a really great performance.
Should react to Jeramy’s version of “Let it Go” from Miscast.
Also Don’t Rain on my Parade from miscast also
I generally disagree with your acting critiques. There's no nuance to it and you only co e it from one narrow style of acting
Really enjoyed this performance. You’re analogy of the song was dead on. Thank you & keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! 🔵⚪🔴
If you could react to Jordan Fishers rendition of "I'm Here" from the color purple, that would be lovely :)
Hmm... i've never seen it. Might be worth a look.
Will you react to miscast last version of the schuyler sisters?! It’s not perfect but I find the lead singer insanely good for his age!
ruclips.net/video/vYmavCsp8Hs/видео.html
I will take a look at it, sure. Thank you so much for the support!
I love Jeremy Jordan and I totally agree with you about him overacting, he's gifted with amazing vocals but he's too restless in his acting and full with fidgety energy.
You should react to Jeremy Jordan in Santa Fe from newsies (the one after the big squabble with the police)
Thank you so much for the support! I will get to this performance for sure.
Well heres hoping you get the opportunity to add to that number soon enough!
Please do more Jeremy Jordan videos!
I agree that he overreacts but I think it works for him.. maybe because I know people who are ~all that~ in real life haha but I kinda think it works for Jeremy.. you know shit is getting serious when his eyebrows goes like /\ haha I love that
Haha. Hey fair point, we may think its overacting however if its a genuine reaction, then hes doing his job.
I promise I will.
@@MarcDanielPatrick Yay! I legitimately cannot wait ✨
Can you react on Jordan Fischer's performance of "waiting for life" from once on this island. Love your channel btw xx
Is Jordan Fischer the black guy?
Is Jordan Fischer the black guy?
Thank you so much.
Not a big fan of Jeremy Jordan!!! No worries, I'm the same way about *Ben Platt* ~ :-)
Haha. Fair enough.
Marc
I've recently discovered your reactions and have enjoyed them -- I, as others have stated appreciate your take on more than vocal technique, especially character interpretation and masterclass style review -- let's see more of it.
Thank you so much for the support. You know, I didn't pick up on that at all - keen eye there sir.
Full disclosure: I'm only just becoming familiar with Jeremy Jordan, and my experience is mostly with straight plays rather than musical theatre, so take the following with a grain of salt... :)
In general he seems more focused on his own performance than on the story, or what the character needs moment-to-moment. Gorgeous voice, no argument there. Some great choices too, again no argument. But it's like he's commenting on what's happening to the character (from the outside), rather than living what's happening to the character (from the inside).
I "perform" even when I'm alone by myself with no audience, whether it's a musical theater song or not.
Have you watched him sing "Broadway here I come"? That killed me (bad choice of words there for obvious reasons but maaaan) - it's amazing. Please react to that at some point, would love to hear your thoughts, I always learn so much! Or Santa Fe, obviously.
Will do.
I would love to see your reaction and hear your thoughts on Jessie Mueller's performance of this song at the Tony's. She apparently had laryngitis at the time but did a fantastic job anyway.
Your reaction to that stomp made me cackle because same. I love this performance, but that felt like a bad high school theatre audition moment.
Yes! Thats exactly what it looked like. So right.
This is such a good comment! He is incredible at times and others just miss the mark for me. Well said.
@@MarcDanielPatrick He's perfection in my opinion, and his wife sings so much better than she did when they were first together. I think I have seen every video of JJ singing on RUclips. His wife and him used to sing a lot together at the concert shows, little venues. You can tell over the years from when they started singing together to now how much better she is. Yes that could be with more practice and performances but having JJ as your husband I believe has to have something to do with it, I would love to know your thoughts. They just had a baby well a little less than a year ago, did I mention super fan lol. I just discovered your Channel after watching Hamilton on the Disney network and crying through the whole thing, I loved it. I had to look up who played his wife. Then I found your channel. You deserve more subscribers your very good. Thank you. P.S what did you think of the movie The last five years that he did with Anna Kendrick? I think It would be interesting to see the difference between him or any Broadway performer singing in a show on Broadway and doing a movie musical, just an idea. Subscribed, liked and hit the bell. Thank you for sharing your expertise!!!
For future reaction videos, what about a super deep cut? Jane Horrocks singing "Cabaret" like an absolute mad woman in the London production of "Cabaret." Stuff of legends, it is.
Maybe This Time - one of the most depressing musical theatre songs of all time, and most ppl this its a song of hope.
To me it was just perfect
You should react to other Jeremy Jordan performances - Ive Told You Now and Its All Coming Back to Me Now
My favorite performance of his that I have seen AND just a superb reaction and analysis of it by you. So much terrific information to pass on to us. Thank you!
I definitely would appreciate a mix of the two. I love the entertainment piece of it, but I also definitely want more technical break-downs too
Thank you so much for the feedback
I do love how gently he ended the song as opposed to Shoshanna's powerhouse version.
Burn by Rachelle Ann Go
During his last concerts in London, he did 'the best songs for The Last Five Years' and they were all her songs, haha! He just kills them!
If you haven’t seen Adrian sing she used to be mine, you need to react/analyze his version! That kid is mad talented.
Been hearing that kids name quite a bit now. Haha. Hes fantastic. Thanks for the comment from a RUclipsr thats killing it btw. Congrats!
Love your channel but after your commentary I search out the recording to hear it without interruption and try to remember all your comments. Could play the musical number before or after your breakdown ?
Interesting point. Thank you .
Another of my favourite Miscast performances is Jordan Fisher doing I'm Here from The Colour Purple, I'd love to see you react to that! XD
I liked his version better than hers. Of course I'm no critic and hers was great.
Well said.
If you haven’t already can you do Jordan fishers version of “she used to be mine”
Aww mannnn was this streamed???? I missed it! 😭
Jordan's okay but he's singing this song like he's in a talent show, I prefer the broadway version, just saying.
That said, please do Ben Platt next singing Waving Through a Window or Words Fail?
Great vid, I gotta admit I'm loving this series! Please keep making them 👍
Thank you so much. Means a lot.
Oh how I don’t love giving a musical theatre actor a handheld mic. It’s like giving them a prop. They have to figure out how to “act with it” and then make it work with the performance. I wish that more of these performances could use the same or similar head mics that they use on stage.
Such a good point Heather! Thankfully he left it on the stand for a good portion of it.
Marc Daniel Patrick unfortunately though there were times when I could actually see the thought “no don’t grab the mic yet” go across his face.

Oh my god - that was just gorgeous. I could listen to it again and again
Ah, very well said.
Thank you so much for all the support. It means a lot.
I did musical theater from 3rd grade through high school. I can't tell you how much I miss it. It was such a huge part of my life and who I thought I would be. Watching these performances and your reactions makes me a little nostalgic and it's bittersweet, but in the best way possible! Thank you!
So glad I could help bring back those fond memories for you.
I know that he has performed the song a lot since then but to me his best performance of the song is the second time that he had ever performed it here:
ruclips.net/video/JCsgeuY4Zx0/видео.html
To be fair, I liked the performance overall.
And honestly its gets me when ppl say "here use this version of the performance instead, it's better". I'm not looking for the "best" version of everything, I'm reacting to what I see. Thats the beauty of any LIVE performance, you're only as good as you are on the day.
Curious to here your thoughts on Adam Pascal "Pity The Child #2" from Chess the Musical. Its phenomenal.
Jeremy Jordan doing losing my mind and the guy who played Sebastian Titus in the little mermaid singing poor unfortunate souls
