Lol same also yma o hyd. Used to sing it on the taxi on our way to the next village over to hype ourselves up for the footy game. Also sang "where we come from? SUPERSONIC LLANSANNAN" 😂 but by choice cause. Cymru am byth ❤️
When I was but a boy of 5 or 6 our next door neighbor Mrs Wigfield (Granny Wigfield to me) used to look after me when my mother had to go to hospital. Granny Wigfield used to sing songs to me and tell me nursery rhymes in Welsh. Sospan Fach was one of those songs that I loved as a child. Many years later I was in "The St. Davids Club" (1 RRW's NAFFI Club), after playing rugby as Hooker with the 1st battalion 1RRW. I was Royal Signals and had been introduced by my Welch mucker Dave Bird to the lads of 1 RRW. We all got on great and the beer was going down well. I remember telling the lads about how I had fancied a girl in Aberystwith. I had seen her in a cafe on the front there and promised myself that I would get Mr Parry of the YMCA at our camp to help me to learn how to ask this girl out for a walk on the front, in Welsh. Bless him he had me speaking Welsh in no-time at all. Possibly my memory of Granny Wigfield's songs and nursery rhymes helped. To which he thought that must have been it. We only got recce transport to Aber. once a month or so. Any way the next Saturday that the truck was running, I was on it. I got down to the cafe with some of my pals from Tonfanau and waited for the magic moment when she walked in. Brave to the last I went up to her and introduced myself. I asked her out for a walk the got the biggest shock. She just answered back with " Can't you speak bloody English Boy'o, You bloody Taffs are all the same". I was just about gob smacked. When I said to her that I was English and it had taken me three weeks to learn to ask her in Welsh she just replied "Pull the other one , it's got bells on". All my army mates laughed like hell and I was left standing with my hands up in disbelief. Of course that was in the early 60's, before Welsh became a compulsory language in schools again. Any how it did not stop me singing Sospan fach with the rugby club lads of 1st Royal Regiment of Wales in Osnabruck, Germany . The rugby club lads would not believe that I was 'nt Welsh after a few more jars. A dam good night to remember.
That's a lovely story John Cliff! I was born in Crickhowell when my father was in RWF. We didn't stay there long after that and were posted to Singapore, where he died before I was 3 in a tragic accident. He was a bandmaster, and had a very musical ear, some of which rubbed off on me and my brother. But the reason I write is because I remember my Mother singing parts of Sospan Fach, and Calon Lan. I now still play hockey, and for the Welsh Dragons and Wales, (now nearing 59) and find myself having to learn Calon Lan and the Welsh national anthem.....just to keep up!! Lovely to reminisce!!
LOL,me too. There are other versions around that sound less anthemic;more like what you might expect Calcifer to be singing to himself, but this a popular song in Wales so there are going to be a lot of interpretations around.
Mary Anne has hurt her finger David the servant is not well The baby is crying in the cradle And the cat has scratched little Johnny That's the first verse

So...this is Calicifers little saucepan song...catchy song. Can one of you people from Wales explain why Howl bursts through the door singing, "They think so much about me that they always play without me" does that have to do with Rugby too?
We aren't British, we are Britons!!! Big difference. One is an ancient Roman term for the Cymro tribes of Prydain (Britannia) amd the other an invention of the Crowns of Scotland and England to include their own people as "Britons". ..which is fully illegal as they never had the power to do that. Owain Glyndwr was never defeated in battle or surrendered his crown (De Jure Prince of Wales which annuled the English laws over Wales in 1400.....which was still under occupation, not conquered thanks to the formation of the Principality in Gwynedd)...this is why Henry the 8th had to annex it, no Crown, no unification. Hence annexation. The Prince of Wales title in use now is the De facto title. Another words....a forgery.

Lol, I like the song, but it's kind of funny! This epic, military sounding song is talking about saucepans and a cat scratching someone on the cheek. Like it though!
@@muhammadahmad44563 years late but I just want to say that's ridiculous. They are clearly asking for the source so they can get a copy from the artist perhaps.
+Derek Young Thanks Derek. I have found an MP3 copy of the actual Norwegian version called "Autumn Evening" from the Norwegian "Folkmusikk" internet FM station.I will try and upload it to RUclips some time.
I was wondering what Calcifer was really singing...
This song gives me flash backs to primary where we’d sing this on the top of our lungs around the yard
Same but in hall
We was forced to learn this in singing practice every Tuesday morning word for word and it had to be accurate otherwise it was from the start
Me to but on Thursday
sameeee

O.o I looked this up cause it was in my book, Calcifer in Howl's moving castle sings this tune alot.

john cliff I was hoping to read “Fifty years on, that girl is still my wife.” 😁 I guess she turned you down. ☹️ Great anecdote, nonetheless. xx

Chi wedi ganu Sospan Fach yn Yr Almaen?Fy Dduw!
I'm Irish and I like this, fellow Celts.
*[Proceeds to march on the spot with this at full volume through headphones]*
this variation of sosban fach sounds like a march or an anthem
Late response but it actually was the Official Anthem Of The Free Wales Army (FWA) so most likely why it’s more like anthem in this version
Same here, and now I'm laughing out loud trying to imagine the fire demon singing this. It's... not really the kind of song I expected. XD
LOL,me too.

Christopher William Welsh enough.
I loved this song in primary and I sang my lungs out because it was the only song I was good at singing in Welsh XD
what an absouloute *BOP*
Trying to imagine Calcifer singing this is kinda difficult
Mary Anne has hurt her finger
David the servant is not well
The baby is crying in the cradle
And the cat has scratched little Johnny
That's the first verse
its burnt her finger not hurt
Discord well he's not wrong translating brifo to hurt; it's just that she hurt her finger by burning it on the pan
Little sosban on fire big sosban is on the floor and the cat scratched little Jonny
Yesterday was the anniversary of our last prince of wales R.I.P l

What?
Oh God, I want to know what that one is about too!! Clearly Howl was returning from a rugby game but I cant find any anthems with that lyrics 😔
I've been searching for a version like this for a while now, and this is so awesome! Thank you!
i had a welsh singing teacher in primary school. We sung this and calon lan alot and everyone loved it
I hated calon lan XD
