Picked up some SMS Pros after watching your video and seeing a few other reviews. Yes, they are special. Feel is very solid and crisp, adjustability is shockingly noticeable with just a 6 gram difference. A definite must-try for 15 index and lower.
Appreciate you posting this. I'm sold on the Edel irons, but still deciding between the SMS & Pro version. I hover around an 8-10 hcp throughout the year.
Curious, did you try both before settling on the Pro's? If so, what tilted you to the Pro?
@@miken2686 I picked up the Pros for the milled tri-sole and one-piece forging. I never tried the SMS. I don't like hollow body irons so it never appealed to me. Plus, no milled sole. I consider the Pros almost like the cavity back version of Tiger's P7TW, which I don't have the speed to play but are my dream irons. I played at 9-12 hcp last year, 7 iron 150 yd carry, driver 244.5 avg. With your scoring, definitely do Pros up to at least 7 iron.
@@lkae4 Super helpful response. Much appreciated. I can play my 7 iron from 165-175 when I'm dialed in, so it sounds like I wouldn't really need the help of the hollow body SMS. Oddly enough I'm playing PXG 0311 P's, which ARE hollow body clubs but really don't feel like it.
At 56 yrs old I was more concerned about forgiveness. Distance has never been an issue for me, but my ball striking can be inconsistent. Don't play often enough to be as consistent as I was back in my near scratch days.
Do you find the Pro's to be at least semi-forgiving?

Gabe, it's videos like this that really inspire me to play golf! I love your reviews but when you are out on the course, having fun and just speaking from the heart about golf, your passion comes through and it's inspiring. Those driver head covers are sick! I'm getting fitted for my first driver next weekend, might have to keep that cover in mind...

I own 4 sets of irons: New Mizuno forged, Ping Eye 2's, Wilson d350's, and Cleveland ta5's. The old Clevelands are my favorite at 30 years old. I'm a 6 handicap with them, but a 12 with the others sets. When you get a good set that you can score with, KEEP THEM FOREVER.

Nice video Gabe. I was guessing you were going to say Miura irons, but the Edel was a great surprise. I've never had the opportunity to hit those. But my boss has an Edel limited edition putter that is one of the coolest designs I've seen for a putter and it has the torque balance which is a bit unique. Good to see you are doing well and have so much joy with finding something that is working good for you. I just changed my iron shafts to the new Axiom and I'm feeling the same way about those.

I treated myself to some new irons a week or so ago, absolutely love them, my first set of forged irons, going from cobra ltdx irons to some Wilson D9 forged, a lot smaller head length and not as strong lofted, the Wilson’s feel amazing

@@LetsPlayThru thank you, I managed to beat my friend today for the first time since we took up golf 2 1/2 years ago, i shot 4 over par round my local 9 hole course, my best score on this particular 9 hole course.

Wilson does make Great Balls...I use the out dated Wilson Staff Duo Soft Spin, which Wilson took off the market...Will try these Wilson balls when I run out of my preordred 4 doz Duo Soft Spin. Thanks Gabe for sharing with us your Bags..
just about to get a set of Apex Pro and Apex CB irons. hit them at a demo day and fell in love. perfect blend of soft but also a nice amount of pop.
About 3 weeks I Finally got my pre ordered Jailbird 360. Been waiting since early July. Absolutely the best putter I’ve ever played with! So stable especially inside 10 feet. Was pre-ordered at 38 inches but at 5 foot six inches tall it’s just too long. I had 2ndSwing Golf in Delaware cut it down 2 inches and had them put a 50 g weight plug in the butt end wrapped with about three strips of lead tape so it fits snug. Overall it’s a 60 g additional weight plug to the butt end along with the 93 g grip it really is super counterbalanced now. After rolling it on Quintec I couldn’t get the launch angle below 2° everything was 3° to 4° , so I had them lower the loft from 3 1/2° (new)
to 2°. This slightly opens the face and gives it 5° of Toe hang which is fine with me

Up until they came out with the set you are playing, they were only making single length for a few years. They made Brysons set in college before he went to Cobra as a pro.

My equipment:
Cobra LTDx Max Driver, 3W, & 5W, Titleist TSi2 4H, Taylormade P790 5i - AW, Cleveland RTX Zipcore 54 deg & 58 deg Wedges, Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5 Putter, Bushnell Tour 5 Shift Laser Range Finder, Garmin Fenix 5x (when I wear a watch), Shotscope H4, and I play the Kirtkland Signature V2 ball or a Titleist Pro V1.
I love those Edel Irons. I did think about them too, but the P790's were in the sweet spot between performance and price. I was fitted for the P790's, Cleveland Wedges, Titleist Hybrid and the Scotty Cameron. During the putter fitting @ Club Champion, I holed 7 in a row from 12 feet, and then another 7 in a row from 6 feet. There was no doubt about which putter I was buying.

I actually got a great deal on the Cobras (all three for $325) and I picked those based on last year's Bracket videos you released. I know they didn't win the whole thing, but your tests with it were pretty good and at that price I couldn't say no.

As you can see I'm a bargain golfer. Even the driver I got of Rock Bottom Golf after it had come down about 2/3 in price. I think they are both equally as good. I wouldn’t say the PXG is any better. But it just happens to be set up a little better for me.
Makes sense given the custom fit. I too started season with different set up: stealth driver, Pxg gen 4 irons, tm stealth hybrids, tsr2 3 wood and Scotty Newport putter. I kept as backup set as loved the clubs but current set up is performing better.
Looks like you dropped some coin. Glad you are loving the clubs.
You mentioned getting the hooks late in the round. That happened to me this past weekend! Had a GREAT front 9 followed by a TERRIBLE back 9 as I kept hooking shots off the tee. Any guess as to why that happens?
For me it's mostly due to fatigue as the round goes on. I don't get my body thru the ball completely and tend to swing more with my arms as I get tired. I try to really concentrate on getting my chest and mid section to rotate thru the ball for those last few holes. Hope that helps.

Hey Gabe why is your Bushnell LP marker on the driver on the toe? Just curious if that does anything differently with the readings.
That’s actually a marker for the Uneekor Eye mini. I was testing it this week for a review.
Gabe, did you somehow get fit for those irons or did you just take a leap of faith and give them whatever your specs were for your last set of irons? I've never seen these clubs anywhere, so I don't think a guy can demo Edel. Am I wrong? 250 a club isn't that bad as the other premium clubs are generally from 200 to 215 per club. The shaft selection is limited, but at least most of their selection is no additional cost.
There are just a couple of places you can get a demo with them. But I did take a leap.
@@LetsPlayThru It would be nice if you could give them a credit card number and have a single club, like a 7 iron in your specs, sent to you to try for 2 weeks, and then return. I'd even pay reasonable shipping costs if I could try one. Missed sales opportunity on their part.

I was fit at Golftec for one. It's been in my bag since.
I’ve had one in the bag for 5 years now. Their torque balancing and counter weighting system was ahead of its time. Great fitting experience too.
