I stayed right by here on the beach in El Tunco, it was a really really cool place. Amazing to see all the women washing their clothes in the rivers every day. People were lovely and food was amazing. I walked around San Salvador on my own with no issues. Areas of UK and US have seemed far more dangerous.

A little late, but I just came back from a 15 day trip and I can honestly say while I was nervous beforehand I had nothing to worry about. My family and I had a great time exploring the country and it was very beautiful all around from the volcanoes to the lakes and the beaches. The whole country was quite safe to visit, way safer than most American cities I’ve been in. We didn’t just stay in the “touristy” areas either. We saw as much of the country as we could. Fittingly, the trip ended with me becoming an official citizen before leaving. I have never been more proud of my heritage and I cannot wait to return and see the rest of El Salvador 🇸🇻

Having Tattoos in El Salvador is not an issue. The tourist locations where most foreigners stay or visit are more secure or have more security. At any of these locations, you will see plenty of tourists with visible tattoos walking all over with no worries there mostly worried about the gangs happening 🙂

I, as a white guy from Cali went to El salvador to finally meet my LDR dream girl, i planned for 12 days, ended up staying for 33 days. left right before the gang crackdown... All i know is I felt comfortable 99% of the time, the only time i didnt was when i was riding on the freeway in the bed of a pickup truck i got a lot of stares and laughs even from children and locals. I guess they didnt expect a gringo to be riding around like that through certain parts of el salvador. I am now trying to seriously find a remote job so i can get some sort of residency in el salvador and make decent money. I live in California, but my home is in El salvador foreal.

I am from El Salvador...I'm someone who migrated legally thanks to my mom in 1995 and have only gone back twice since I left...the first time was 2010 and then again 2021 the difference between those years is night and day.
The first time I had a security detail of 4 who rotated 2 and 2 so I had Protection 24/7...This time I spent zero dollars on security and had a blast! Let me tell you my parents are Salvadorean US citizens who were already there the first time I went, but things were completely different back then!...You have nothing to fear...I rented 4 ranches this time, in El Cuco, El Tunco, Costa del Sol and Lago de Coatepeque and had a blast in all of them...this country is beautiful, my wife and I travel all the time and we would never recommend a place we don't absolutely love! And let me tell you El Salvador is a place you don't want to miss!!! I love my country now!...In all Honesty I couldn't say this before.

Growing up, I knew where I was from and there were many times where I was teased or made fun of by another Hispanic nationality. I didn't give a fuck, my love for ES grew even larger especially through middle and high school. Don't get me wrong, I love the U.S, this is my home and I'd die defending this country.
I visited E.S in '94 & '02 and each time it was different. However I'd never thought I'd be alive to witness El Salvadors amazing current progress as we are today. I would really like to understand what changed in last 10 years, so El Salavdor is now considered to be "safe". I would really enjoy to visit it, but my skin is white and I don't speak Spanish like Chris. What situations and what places should be avoided that are specific to El Salvador? How to stay safe there, other than using common sense and have good sense of spatial awareness?

    • @ricardofigueroa3759
      @ricardofigueroa3759 2 года назад +7

      1. What changed in the last 10 yrs? Many things, but most people attribute these changes to the new president being more "heavy handed" against gangs, changing the country's perception, and investing more in social programs. There are also some people that believed he has set-up a truce with the gangs that stopped the murders but there is no strong evidence of this. Also, there's a lot of white skinned salvadoreans so you wouldn't stick out on skin alone.
2.What places/situations to avoid? Honestly aside from small "barrios" that would literally be near impossible for you to find or get to on accident as a tourist I can't think of anything. For situations, although what Salva said it's true and you could explore el salvador on a bus the public transportation system is lacking so it can get complicated. I would still suggest Uber or going through touring companies like Salva'ss.
      3. How to stay safe? Just same things you have to watch out for in other places: not leaving stuff unattended, in crowded situations watch out for pick pocketers, etc....Again, the areas you would visit as a tourist or that would come up when you search "what to do in El Salvador" will be perfectly fine.

Check this out. I recently traveled to Mexico and seen tattoos on everyone. Some where gang related others were not.
But over all it wasn't an issue so long as no one was harassed or a crime was committed.
That's not the case here in El Salvador. Those of you whom have any numbers or gang affiliations from LA especially the 2 main gangs, we'll guess what's you will be but in jail. No questions asked. As far as we know you're a living advertisement for gang life. So jail is for you here. Valverde, Santa muerte on you might wanna skip this country. There's no rights given regarding those gang issues.

I think this is propaganda especially when he mentioned Costa Rica. There is absolutely no comparison between El Salvador and Costa Rica. El Salvador loves to bash to Costa Rica because they aspire to be like Costa Rica but they can’t. El Salvador is not safer than Costa Rica and its not the safest country in Central America.

@@Travelwithchris LOL I mean I don’t have anything negative to say about El Salvador but I do know for sure that it seems to be a recurring theme with El Salvador hating on Costa Rica. I would say to the people of El Salvador forget about what everyone is doing and focus on your country and fix your problems without bringing up other Central American countries. Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador are the least safe countries with El Salvador and Honduras leading the pack. Costa Rica and Panama are the safest countries. Belize I don’t know how safe it is but its worth looking it up.

I think tattoos should be covered up as a sign of respect because the gangs have made tattoos a sign of gang membership and aggression. And there are many victims of gangs over there.

    • @MrHarumakiSensei

Or alternatively, if lots of regular people go around with their tattoos of butterflies and unicorns, the previous 'sign of aggression' could lose its power.
