    Excellent review. Totally agree with your overall score. I have last year's Stinger GT, which is the top of the range here in Oz. It is easily the best car I have ever owned and I have had some fantastic cars.
    When all things considered, price, performance, standard equipment, driving dynamics and warranty, there is not a car on the road that comes close to the Stinger.
    Here in Oz, an equivalently specced German rival costs approximately tice as much as the Stinger GT.

      You're right, the 4 cylinder went up to 2.5 litre, the V6 went up about 3-4 horse power but is the same engine - in England we didn't get all the options that US/Canada got. We had one V6 option which is fully loaded, then the 2.0 4 pot and the 2.2 diesel - the smaller engine had two options only GT-line that had different headlights or the GT which was fully loaded but without the engine

    Not the "best" but as a stinger owner, nothing at this price point competes in overall well roundedness. Its got the "winter package" as standard, HUD, great environmental controls, good seats, a nice body, and has practical capabilities with its hatchback. Its the most competent sports car daily driver around, and id stand by that.

    @stephenhendricks103 3 года назад +6

    Good review, Lauren. But I think you buried the lead. There are two pieces of real news. First is the replacement of the previous 2.0L base engine with the new corporate 2.5L turbo 4 that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis are putting on at least 9(!) vehicles including the GT-Line Stinger. The engine in the GT1 and GT2 isn't new. It's a carryover from the previous years with a gain of only 3 hp from a retuned exhaust. With the 2.5Lengine and AWD the GT-Line (with sunroof and premium sound) has an MSRP under $41,000. That compares to the GT2 at about $12,000 more! And as the video's graphics demonstrated, what you give up in acceleration from 0 to 60 is about a half second.
    What do you get apart from a huge savings? Over 230 pounds less overall weight and better weight distribution front to rear with the smaller engine translates to better handling . At $41K a loaded GT-Line version is a screaming bargain.
    As for a manual transmission, dream on. KIA dealers are already reluctant to order Stingers given their history of terrible sales. To expect dealers to order (and KIA to produce) cars that sit unsold on dealer lots for months before they're finally sold at deep discounts is a fantasy.
    Unfortunately, the other big news is that KIA is almost sure to discontinue the Stinger with the 2022 model. Dismal sales and KIA's decision to put all their performance "eggs" in the EV6 basket are apparently to blame. So if consumers are interested in a Stinger, get one soon. They're very likely to disappear completely in less than a year.
    BTW, a minor quibble. I'd consider the Stinger, regardless of the trim level, to be a GT (Grand Touring) sedan rather than a "sports sedan." The Genesis G70 is definitely in the latter category but the Stinger is a GT in the true European tradition.

    • @canadabear72

      Well said Stephen! Unfortunately where I live, there's only a 5K difference between the 2.5T loaded and the top of the line 3.3TT. After testing them both, I'd gladly cough up the extra money...if my wife would let me buy this car! :)

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 3 года назад +1

      @@canadabear72 With only a $5K difference between the GT-Line and GT2, that's a wholly different proposition, John. I wonder what explains such a huge difference in pricing between Korea and the US.

    • @canadabear72
      @canadabear72 3 года назад

      @@stephenhendricks103 I suspect it has something to do with the features and options available on the Korean 2.5t Stinger. You can add everything that the 3.3tt gets here so that the only difference is the engine and the variable exhaust. Hope you're well Stephen!

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 3 года назад +1

      @@canadabear72 You're probably correct. Though the only major differences between the fully loaded GT-Line and the GT1 and GT2 here in the US have to do with the standard wheel sizes, what appears to be softer leather, and the "Electronically-Controlled Transfer Case and Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control" that comes with AWD in the upper two trims. Not worth a premium of at least $12K (imo) considering the vastly improved performance of the 4 cylinder 2.5L turbo compared to the previous 2.0L mill.
      Personally, I'd been mulling a choice between the GT-Line Stinger and the VW Arteon, the KIA's nearest comparable rival. My tentative plan was to pass my beloved GTI on to my teenage daughter (while retaining the right to drive it when I had the urge.) But that plan was knocked into a cocked hat when I came across an immaculate 2012 VW CC with an MT and only 43K miles for $11K. I couldn't resist it. The "White Rabbit" has quickly become my daughter's love of her life (along with her boyfriend who envies the MT) and she has lost interest in inheriting my DSG equipped GTI. The bottom line is that I'd risk my daughter's wrath by replacing the CC or part with my GTI if I were to get either the soon-to-be extinct Stinger or the "R" version of the Arteon coming to the US in 2022. The "best laid plans..." .

    I bought my GT1, AWD, Ascot Green, for $46k about two months ago. Loving it, and didn’t see the need for the GT2 extras for $10k more. I’m also very impressed by how well it handles in the snow with stock tires. Before this car, I drove WRXs with manual transmission for 16 years. Though I loved it my Subies, I was ready to switch to an automatic, so the lack of a stick shift was not a factor for me.

      How does the handling compare to the WRX? I am interested in this car but just GT and AWD, will be driving in the snow.

    • @dewfall56
      @dewfall56 3 года назад +2

      @@nathanknapp3344 The best way for me to differentiate is to say the Stinger is mature, and the WRX is a beast. I loved my Subies for how I felt like a part of the car. They are beasts in which I could feel everything happening on the road. WRXs are built for young playing in the snow and dirt, which they do better stock than any other stock car on the market, IMO. The Stinger on the other hand is much more refined, and inspired by German engineering. One thing I noticed right away is how the Stinger insulates me from much of what's happening where the tires contact the road, but that's also part of it's appeal to guys like me who have gotten older, and want some comfort. That's not to say the Stinger isn't exciting, because it very much is with a lot of power. But I can also drive it gently and feel comfortable. The WRX is a comparatively rough riding, wild bull all the time. Hope that helps.

    I'd probably get this if dealers were selling it for a fair price. They've started to mark it up to $64K to $68K for a GT2, so a G70 and some Audi cars are cheaper now.

    I still like this car. It's the Attila of the class. And the hatch is a boon over the G70, which looks like sex on wheels. The. Stinger isn't smart looking. But it can run a 12.9 in the qtr in RWD form. Still, a HOT V 8 cylinder and AWD in this stinger will make it the Godzilla of it's class.

    This was honestly a horrible review. The 2022 is a mild refresh aside from the 2.5T replacing the 2.0T. The 3.3T for all intents and purposes is the same. The fact that she emphasizes how much better the engine is in the GT2 than before shows she has no idea what she is talking about.. Also, the engine shots are stock footage as the car is red, same for the driving shots.
    Overall a lazy and uninformative review.
