Great to see the Digi getting some love! Having watched literally every vid of it on RUclips (which is unfortunately rather easy), it's so good to see my favorite synth getting some (fantastic btw) content.
Digitone sounds ok, but its such an unstable piece of equipment. You have to play it the way Elektron wants you to play it. Dont think you can take it out of its confort zones. Im talking crashes and freezes and lockups that screw up an entire setup. Just be careful with it and DONT RELLY ON IT FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE OMFG
@@SlowHaste naw after troubleshoot hell I can avoid the crashes. Not a lemon, I went trhough a few of them and demonstrated my findings at the store by chrashing theirs, The voice management has issues playing both sequenced and manual (midi keyboard) imputs at the same time. Its a firmware bug that becomes fatal when the machine is pushed to its material limit (CPU and buffer), and I can reproduce it at will Elektron knows but have yet to have a fix for it saldly, maybe 1.5 will eventualy help. Sad because its prob the best FM synths outthere and its potential is only limited by its manufacturing choices. Which are weird. Thanks for the repply tho, +1 sub
Nice chord progression in the (first?) track, also makes me want to listen to Saturate by Chemical Brothers (which is similar, though I’m sure they’re not the first to use it)
@@SlowHaste I did go and listen, and I’m pretty sure the similarity is more to the second half of your one than to the whole thing. Very different sound design of course, theirs is darker and slower while yours is brighter and faster. Though both have decent amounts of overtones! And theirs is transposed down a bit. But there’s definitely the same kind of harmonic quality to it, encircling the root above and below and with similar voice-leading. I haven’t suuuper analysed it to say it’s exactly functionally identical in both cases? But it’s definitely got the same kind of feel, like how 2-5-1 sounds 2-5-1-y even with other stuff in front, or a flat-5 or some other substitution. Maybe I should go figure out exactly what both are and then use that progression myself 😅 it does lead into the next loop really well, but doesn’t sound too urgent to loop at the same time.
Really enjoy your Digitone vids. I'm looking for a synth to pair with my 'takt and your videos are pushing me towards the 'tone. FM scares me (I had a MODX and just didn't get anywhere with the FM side) but the Digitone does seem to insulate you somewhat from the heavy maths of FM and just make it fun (as opposed to screen-staring and menu diving on the MODX). Is that a fair assessment, would you say?
I would say that’s true! Being familiar with navigating the Digitakt will give you a huge head start on learning the Digitone, and they pair so well together in regards to sequencing/MIDI.
This gave me some new ideas for the Syntakt, specifically using the envelope delays and LFOs for rhythmic fake-arps. Thanks! One tip is to arp-lock the kick at quarter note intervals, freeing up trigs 5, 9, and 13 for other stuff.
@@-crash Yes, envelope delays. He mentioned them in the video. It basically delays the envelop trigger, making a sound's transient play at a later point.
@@sinewaymusic I found mention only of filter envelope delay, not amp envelopes. Guess I need to spend some time figuring out how to apply this in a useful way.
I'm the "should I sell my Hydrasynth or Peak to get the Digitone?" guy from your last video. Ordered the Digitone yesterday used for a great price on Reverb. Kept the Peak and Hydra. Great patches and melodies on both videos! Cheers from Lisbon, Portugal
I don't own a Digitone but I've heard really great things! I like what I hear from your use of it too, you've got a great style of songwriting dude! Hope your doing well, take good care 🖤
Thanks for going in-depth and explaining the deets on the FM sound design, like modulating the algorithm or pointing out how the delay on one of the operators brings a tone in late. The world actually does need more in-depth FM synthesis tutorials.
Glad you found it useful! I agree - I’m kind of thinking of exploring some other fm synths deeper (probably way in the future) because I’ve been having so much fun with the Digitone
Very nice! I haven't been vibing with my Digitone lately (since incorporating Ableton and softsynths and the Opsix into the mix), but these are very pretty sounds. This track gives me a mellow hyperpop vibe!
Just discovered your channel, subscribed, your videos are really really good! Question: for someone thinking of venturing for the first time from DAW world to Dawless world, which of these neat Elektron boxes would you recommend?
Glad you’re enjoying the channel, thanks so much!! I’d definitely recommend the Digitakt to start with - it’s very well rounded and will hopefully help you learn more about your preferred workflow
@@SlowHaste I bought the Digitone and Rytm last year and enjoy both. Rytm is fun for finger drumming beats and the additional features but larger size and cost. If I had to pick just one grab and go box, the Digitone would be it and Heat. Can chain song mode and do show with it. But really enjoy the power of my new Virus TI2 as well since 16 parts multi-timbral has FM, granular, formant, wave table synthesis. User interface way better on Elektrons since Virus has a legacy user interface as the real downside.

Agree! Great synth and fun video 🙌🏻
Thanks Miles! You know a thing or two about the Digitone I suppose 😎
@@SlowHaste haha a tiny bit! 😁 btw will you be at Superbooth this year Daniel? Would love to meet if you are around
It would be a dream to go someday, but unfortunately I won’t be there this year :( someday it will happen!
@@SlowHaste yeah can understand, it’s a long travel. If it happens hit me up! 🙌🏻
The Digitone sound so good ❤ I want your old tunes using both Digis!
I promise they’re coming sooon!!!
You candy arp is hitting some notes from a Cyndi lauper song from the 80s. "All through the night".
I’m not familiar but I’m def gonna check it out!!
I can totally hear that!
Chords are reminding me of “we found love in a hopeless place” by Rihanna.
