    Now this is where I can lend a fraction of advice to you for all the advice I’ve learned from your videos. an octotrack vs a digitakt would help you immensely with trying to create a full performance of multiple jams. The octotracks cross fader and sample/loop functions with its thru machines and pickup machines, allow you to sample a loop of your current jam while you load a secondary jam project. You still have access to effecting the loop with parameter changes as well as being able to bring in your secondary jam like a dj mixes tracks.

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Devin!! Really appreciate that advice and it's a very good tip. I heard of the Octa being capable of that and that actually makes it quite interesting for me. Let's see what the future holds. ;)

    Hey Miles, danke für das großartige Video. Ich erkunde diese Art Musik zu machen erst seit ganz kurzem und habe mit dem Digitakt angefangen. Da fuchse ich mich noch rein, habe aber nach deinen Digitone Videos schon immer ein Auge auf das Gerät geworfen. Jetzt die Videos zu der Kombo... absolut perfekt für mich. Ich habe schon viel gelernt und bin gespannt was sich so herauszaubern lässt. Deine Musik ist auf jeden Fall die größte Inspiration. Danke!

Aber die Kombo macht schon extrem viel Spaß, das kann ich dir sagen. :) Cheers!

    Hi Miles! Thanks for the good thoughts on this particular setup. I plan to create and play live sets with this combo. The hardest thing for me is to design smooth TRANSITIONS between the parts of one jam or transition from one track to another. Would be great to hear you thoughts and tricks you've discovered on that!

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  3 года назад +1

      Hey Anton, thanks for reaching out and for the great input! I'm currently planning the video on performance techniques and there will definitely be some points about transitions between different parts and how I set these up. Regarding transitions between tracks, I'm still looking for a way to make these transitions as smooth as possible. My plan right now is to create enough jams on this combo for a live set and once I have all of them together, I'll be looking for ways to connect them to make a smooth live set. Once this is done some time in the future this will definitely be worth another video!

    Thanks for sharing.
    I’m also using those two machines - pretty much exclusively atm.
    One thing I also like to add is a tiny bit of distortion on the DN. It affects the master out so both the DN and DT and it makes for a subtle but decent compression on the stereo sum.
    Looking forward to the next videos.

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  3 года назад +1

      Hey even mind, thanks a bunch for the comment! Regarding the drive on the DN master page I tried this too and I've seen Ivar doing it in his video as well, but as soon as I add the slightest amount of drive (value 1-2) the signal gets super squashed and I have the feeling that I'm loosing all my dynamics. Did you experience something similar?

    • @evenmind-music
      @evenmind-music 3 года назад +1

      @@MilesKvndra yeah the distortion value is "scaled" a little weird. First, there´s an audible jump from 0.00 to 0.01 (like an off/on switch really). Second, it starts distorting very quickly even with very low values, while the in between higher values there´s isn´t such a big change anymore.
      I mostly have it set to just above 0.00, so 0.01 to maybe 1.00 max. To my ears there isn´t too much squashing there but I shall have a closer listen next time.

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  3 года назад

      @@evenmind-music thanks for sharing the thoughts and insights! I think my channels already have a lot of drive, that could be the reason why the master drive is affecting the signal so strong. But will give it another try - or just go with the Analogue Heat in the future. 😁

    I love the level of nerdiness here, Im gonna need some more video like these. I cant afford any of these, so I just sit back and study everything about these small boxes with bright lights. Do these boxes take input from outside source like multi pedal boards? My fetish is to mix analog with digital in every way possible.

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  2 года назад

      Thanks a bunch man - appreciate your kind feedback. Not sure about multi pedal boards, the boxes each have 2 stereo inputs and 2 stereo outs but you can also just use those as 2 separate mono channels. Then you also have MIDI in, out and through and also audio/midi via USB - so quite a lot of flexibility to hook them up. In the beginning I only used the stereo channels but now I'm also using a lot of the MIDI channels and USB to hook the machines up with Ableton as well. :)

    Great video man! But quick question: if you go from DN into DT and then put the compressor on the master, does it still only effect DT or also the sounds from DN? Would be dope if so as a master compressor for all tracks!

      Thank you! Yeah this video is a little old and got recorded before the big Digitakt update that enabled the Digitakt’s inputs to route audio through it. So yes now it is possible to route it the other way round and use the Digitakt’s compressor as a master compressor. Pretty nice :)

    Question, is it merely a personal preference to have the Digitone on the left versus having it on the right? Great tutorial, looking forward to applying this approach. I like what you said about "intensity". Often I'll jump on and start creating and layering without stopping, which, is almost being irresponsible to the flow creation of a set. This really help me to understand when I'm going gung ho on my music progression and creativity, to hit the breaks and recognize I should probably break them up while being aware of what I'm desiring to bring in next, but except placing it into a new pattern.

Happy to hear that this was helpful, taking elements out and bringing them back in can have such a huge impact on the song, that you can make one song out of one pattern using tricks like this. @mileskvndra Thank you for the great vids. Question for you: I'm new to the DT&DT (but I've spend some time with Model:Samples/Cycles so I'm familiar with the workflow). Once I've recorded a short sequence on a track (DT or DN) using a particular sound, can I continue playing that sequence while scrolling through and auditioning what it sounds like using different voices? I seem to only be able to load different voices one at a time using the Sound Browser. On Samples/Cycles you can flip through sounds while it plays and the sequence will play in that voice without actually selecting it.

    • @MilesKvndra
      @MilesKvndra  2 года назад

      Hey Scott, great to hear from you! Regarding your question I unfortunately think that this is not possible with the Digis. I think with the Digitakt you can scroll through the samples loaded up while the sequence plays but not through the sounds with all parameters applied.

      Hey cohaagenup, thanks so much for the comment - really appreciate it! :) And good thought, I'd definitely love to route it that way but unfortunately that's not possible: The DT inputs are mono only and can just be used to sample into the DT but not to route audio through it. That is unfortunately only possible with the Digitone. Would love to do it the other way round, as I'd like to use the Digitakt's compressor on the DN too. But that's just how the devices are layed out and I doubt that this will ever change with these MK1 units, as they are designed like this from a hardware perspective. Cheers and have a great day! :)

    I was wondering about the best way to record some jamsessions with my digitakt / digitone into ableton?
    Cause when I record with OB only the master gets the fx send effects, which annoys me cause all the stuff is on one channel.
    Do you know if there is a way to record all the 8/12 tracks separately and to maintain the delay/reverb effects somehow?
