If you start with smaller locs it's easier to thicken your locs by combining them but if you start with thicker locs it's harder to go smaller without starting over. Locs thicken up as they mature anyway so you have to pay attention to the size of the parts to really know what size your locs will really be. I've had medium to large locs b4 but this time I want small to medium cuz my hair is already thick so I don't want thick locs too. This my 2nd set of locs and I've restarted twice cuz that's how serious I am about my locs being exactly how I want them. I've given up on trying to find a loctician to do them like I want them so I'm going to start them myself this time. Good luck on your journey.
I also thought about getting hair like blended in to make them thicker. But the guys dreads look nice like that. When they start growing and getting longer his mind and attitude will change. Patience is the key.
