I've been getting a lot of questions on which is better, the Matebook X Pro or the Thinkpad X1 Carbon. So I think its time to do a showdown between the two. Does everyone want to see a head to head between these two ultraportables? Let me know and I will do a video.
I have the X1C 6th gen with the HDR screen but I went back and forth over it and the Matebook X Pro for weeks. I'd love to see a showdown between the two. The only things I wish my X1C had is a 3:2 aspect ratio and a dedicated GPU.
I am debating between the two as well.. leaning towards the X1C but concerned about its speakers based on all reviews. How "average sounding" is it in your opinion? Would it greatly affect the experience of watching movies or RUclips? I've heard the Matebook X Pro's speakers in person so I know that is certainly loud and good enough.
This is my gazillionth X1 review and it still added value. The pace is good, the comparison graphs are unique and the editing is done very well. This channel also seems to cover both the popular and niche tech items. Should (and will) have higher sub base very soon. Ty for the content
if you use your "Lap"top primarily on a desk, then go for any X1, there is no thermal throttling. as for me, i just got the Yoga, and my thighs are medium well as we speak.
The HDR Dolby Digital Display is simply outstanding. This is also built like a tank yet extremely light and portable. Lenovo has hit a home run with this one. Although its not cheap. Let me know what you think.
As the owner of the new X1 Carbon, it certainly deserves a lot of credit.. great keyboard, sturdy, good performance, and the HDR display (which i have as well) is just beautiful. However, it has a lot of flaws. Lots of people, including myself, have been writing on the Lenovo support pages for months regarding several issues like: Fan is always on, CPU throttling, Sleep issues. The 1st one was semi-fixed, second issue finally solved, and 3rd one is no where near a solution. The laptop drains so much battery on sleep and Lenovo has yet to fix/address this issue.
Andrew Marc David I would love to see your review of the new HP ZBook Studio G5 or the HP ZBook 14u G5. The G5 models seem to be much nicer than the previous generations.
Received mine on Friday after thinking seriously about the Huawei Matebook X Pro. In the end I read enough to convince me that the top of the range X1 was the best choice and after unpacking it I was seriously impressed. Super light, super small, super fast and incredible display plus very generous battery life and as indestructible as any business laptop ever was. Delighted with it. Then I saw this review and it's 100% on the money. If you can afford it, get it.
Why only 75k subs? This is one of the best reviews which are available on YT. A lot of content packed with great form without bullshitting. That what I was looking for. Great job!
Hi. This is the very best video review of any product that I have seen--most informative, comprehensive, detailed. On the basis of the review, I decided to go for it on Black Friday and purchase the X-1 carbon, although without the high-end screen. I have had 2 ThinkPads over the last 10-12 years (I think the 1st was purchased right after IBM's sale of its PC division to Lenovo). It's the ThinkPad keyboard that's been a deciding factor, and I needed to be reassured that it's been maintained in the X-1 Carbon 6th gen model. Thank you for this most thorough review.
Hi Andrew, I just ordered the X1 and ran into your review. I seen many and enjoyed yours the best. I had buyers remorse not getting the touch screen and pen, but your feelings regarding the upgraded screen made me realize it was worth the trade-off. I only paid $1445 with tax, (nassau County, NY), with the I7, 16 GB RAM 256 model. A steal. Thanks for the review and sharing your opinion. Excellent video. Cliff M.
I have this laptop and it's certainly a thing of beauty. The HDR screen is to die for and the keyboard is the best in class! The build quality and weight of the laptop make this a fantastic machine.
Hello Andrew. This was my first time watching one of your reviews on a product that I am interested in purchasing. Not only was I impressed by the product, but I was extremely impressed by your very professional presentation! Well Done! Fantastic graphics, very understandable data combined with perfectly understandable commentary. Thank you for a review that mirrored the high calibre of the device being reviewed. Again, Well Done!!
Amazing ultrabook, I fall in love with the Thinkpad brand since I was working on my first professional job, in that time I had one of those and this keyboard and the sound it makes while you are typping is so particular and great that makes me remember those old gold days... thanks for the review Andrew
4 years later, here i am buying a 4 year old refurbished x1 gen 6 and loving it and watching your review. i come from a macbook pro 2016 but missed the fact over not being able to change battery, ssd and ram which you were able to do in macbooks before 2009. The x1 gen allows a battery swap and ssd change and its close enough for customization. I also liked the fact that its very lightweight and touch screen. Hope Tim Apple has taken notice that there are better laptops than apple and change course to produce what customers truly want.
Awesome report about awesome machine. I had bought same machine with only difference: 512 GB SSD, and 300 nits and after I saw this video I returned it and bought exactly same one. LOVE IT.
@Sam S9 sorry for late reply. Yes I got the package in the sealed corrugated card box. It was sealed with Lenovo tape. And I was watching the shipment on UPS tracking system from the moment the label was created in China and when the shipment left warehouse. And It is not stupid to ask at all. It is important to verify that you are getting original product; not replica. MM 2149-1406
@Sam S9 Maybe you should buy one and try. You can always send it back. Just make sure that you do request return within 30 days from order date. I ordered one X1 Carbon (2nd to the top of the line and I LOVED it). But when they put TOP OF THE LINE on SALE, I decided to return the 2nd to the top and to go for the TOP. The return process was very easy, and I received FULL REFUND in just about few days. The top of the line ("LEGEND" as I named it) came direct from China in amazingly FAST time. It is beautiful and I love it. It is great to use, amazingly comfortable keyboard and sharp display. If you want more info I can put part numbers of both here and you can see. I am not working for Lenovo, just wanted to make sure that I give accurate info here. As for OPEN BOX I am pretty sure that if you ask them they will tell you if the machine was OPEN BOX status. I don't like open box either. Cheers.
I love my ThinkPads. I get them used and beef them up. The X1 is very attractive and may even be my next acquisition, but being unable to upgrade the RAM and CPU is close to a deal breaker.
Great Review...... You can always consider reviewing the docking station that is needed to get full connectivity with this great ultrabook. Great work and awesome review.!
hey can the x1c edit video with some effect and transition and how long the render to take? And the editing timeline are smooth? i was gifted by my mother who didn't know anything abt laptop.
The tracking point is truly useful especially when you are playing with the excel and word. Although there is other manufacture offering the same Trackpoint feature as Lenovo, but no one beats Lenovo Trackpoint in terms of accuracy.
excellent review, loved it.. I see that you cover mostly ultrabooks on your channel.. would love to see some omen, dell g series here too.. want to know how they fare against these premium built machines in the long run

Thank you for the review. I'm looking for an ultrabook to replace my 2012 Macbook Pro. I've been using Macbook since 2007 but the new Macbook lineup looks meh for me, so I'm planning to switch. This one looks like a great laptop, also because I've had history with Thinkpad before, they're usually very durabele and reliable.
@@somemillennial Im not planning to completely replace it because it still works great. Had a high expectation on the new macbook air, but the whole macbook lineup is disappointing for me. Im currently eyeing Asus ultrabooks
@@somemillennial same. It feels like they're super money oriented nowadays. I've been using macbook since 2007, Im really satisfied with my 2012 MBP because I can still upgrade and fix it by myself if something happens. Now the base MBP is like 1800 dollars here where I live, everhthing is soldered on, I have to bring it to apple if there's a problem. Will it last >3 years? I cant spend that much on a laptop every 3 years
hey can the x1c edit video with some effect and transition and how long the render to take? i was gifted by my mother who didn't know anything abt laptop.
Hey Andrew! Thanks for your outstanding review! Thanks to your review I just placed my order! Looking forward to unboxing it myself! Thanks again for the great information!
Thank you for your informative reviews. While having a IT background it is no longer my primary focus. I decided to go w/ the Thinkpad Yoga X1 over many of the other models & competitors. While quite pleased for the most part the 1 complaint I have is the residue that left on the black framed model. I can send you some pics if needed. Residue seems to be from finger prints & also resting your palm or using the trackpad. Do you know if this goes away or what to do about it? I have just been using the microfiber cloth it came with to wipe it off. Takes a bit more elbow grease than i am comfortable with. I am working w/ Lenovo on possibly replacing it if it cannot be resolved. I am told it will go away in a few weeks. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated, I would rather keep the black than Silver.
hey can the x1c edit video with some effect and transition and how long the render to take? i was gifted by my mother who didn't know anything abt laptop.
I have one for work and love it so much, I'll be buying another one for personal use! I don't have a problem with fingerprints like you though. Maybe your hands are a little sweaty? Overall great review 👍🏼
Hey Andrew what would you do? Would you recommend getting the i7-8650 for the X1 Carbon 6th gen? Concerned about thermals and throlling. Was thinking about undervolting it and using higher grade thermal paste. What would you do?
hey can the x1c edit video with some effect and transition and how long the render to take? And the editing timeline are smooth? i was gifted by my mother who didn't know anything abt laptop.
Great review! The webcam is quite adequate and as far as the speakers go, well if one is at work perhaps some earbuds or a headset would annoy one's co-workers less. I will get this shared ASAP. Incidentally if I was still at UL I would be recommending this as the laptop for our users, (about 2200 ),at the Northbrook, IL location. Large corporations do not mind spending huge amounts for anything to help productivity. Back in 2005 it was nothing for us to blow $100K/month buying stuff from CDW.
Will you review the Thinkpad X1 Yoga and do a comparison with the Carbon and Yoga C930? It seems the best of both of them, but it doesn't always work out that way. I'm considering these three and HP Spectre x360 15t Poseidon Blue Gem Cut. I've also heard the Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Yoga aren't as bad for showing prints in silver, but I don't know if that's true. Also, what do you think of the Gorilla glass version of the Yoga C930?
I'm here using a t420 and its a shock seeing such a good screen on a business laptop. Guess like the people nowadays need to do a lot more than before.
lol yea true. TBH I don't think it's Lenovo's fault its because screen manufacturers now use 16:9 screens a lot more now, so its cheaper to buy whats high in supply. Kids nowadays just use laptops for netflix.
Excellent video.. 2 things, I love this laptop but touch on the dolby vision screen and a kaby lake g with vega graphics woulda made this a perfect ultrabook in my opinion.
Nice review. Only wish it had a Wacom digitizer and an Icelake Processor...AVX512..I've been waiting for 2 years now. Intel is holding back creating mahem.
Jason Burt They can't enable avx512 on these cpus because they would thermal throttle so hard it would be pointless. I expect these feature to be available on higher tdp (thus better cooled) cpus.
thx for the vid, but I do think its a con DDR3 and no dGPU and in regards to Dolby visions and even HDR as a aspect.. I think you need black-control on a pixellevel for it to really shine.. ..
AMD, ...Can u pls do a review on the X1 Extreme ... And whether its good for gaming as well ? .... I nd a bit of WOW on the sidelines, apart from all boring work ... (Yes, i can BYOD to work) ...
Touch decision for sure, as I like both devices. I would give the slight nod to the Matebook X Pro because of the 3:2 aspect ratio and the higher res display. But it is a very close call. Either way you can't go wrong.
I've been getting a lot of questions on which is better, the Matebook X Pro or the Thinkpad X1 Carbon. So I think its time to do a showdown between the two. Does everyone want to see a head to head between these two ultraportables? Let me know and I will do a video.

I think you nailed the two main differences. It comes down to personal preference to be honest. Either way these are two excellent machines.
I would suggest comparison with XPS 13 9370
I am debating between the two as well.. leaning towards the X1C but concerned about its speakers based on all reviews. How "average sounding" is it in your opinion? Would it greatly affect the experience of watching movies or RUclips? I've heard the Matebook X Pro's speakers in person so I know that is certainly loud and good enough.

I'm still using the 1st Gen X1 Carbon with 3rd Gen i5 CPU :) works fine, would love an upgrade though, just cant afford it at the moment.

Wow you have really good reviews, just bought this laptop based off your recommendation. Also suscribed!

BHUSHA BHUSHA fans? Thermal throttling? Battery? I'm confused between this and matebook x pro.
It is hard to find a better ultrabook at the moment. The only thing that would make me hesitate is a Surface Book 2. Great review as always.
Thanks Mark! I really appreciate it!
Cool review Andrew... no one does reviews as detailed as you do. Keep it up
Thanks Kevin! Its a lot of work but i enjoy it.
wow after 4 years my X1 gen 6 is sleek. Just change batts once. and still good. I think I'll use this beast up to 6 more years.
I just picked one up in 2022. I love it with Windows 11.

thank your for the professional review, i really liked it.
Awesome review, and you got a clear and beautiful voice, I like it. Keep it up!

The shutter is one of the main reasons I wanted this laptop.
I love my ThinkPads. I get them used and beef them up. The X1 is very attractive and may even be my next acquisition, but being unable to upgrade the RAM and CPU is close to a deal breaker.
Can't wait to receive mine. Perfect review! 👍
Great Review...... You can always consider reviewing the docking station that is needed to get full connectivity with this great ultrabook. Great work and awesome review.!
Switched from Macbook Air to X1 Carbon. I regret nothing
I bought a used MacBook pro 13 inch 2017 core i7. Totally hate the keyboard and file management. Lol.
I did the same... kind of nervous, lol... been a mac user for 14 years, getting tired of their stuff though

Thinkpad X1 Carbon has "Classic" written all over it
Totally agree
Thanks for your honest review.

Thanks! I really appreciate it! I will be doing a review of the Dell G series very soon.
Very nice presentation. I look forward to your Thinkpad reviews. Hopefully one of the P series soon ^_^
What a stark contrast to the MSI GL62 7RD Laptop my company bought me for use. Less than 1 year of ownership, the BACKSPACE, C, F and DELETE buttons work intermittently and MSI Tech Support claim its due to water ingress. It cost $1400 (Australian) and I've been tempted to throw it in the lake of fire (with the MSI Dragon logo stuck to it).
Its a shame they removed the upgrability aspect of this laptop soldered ram is a bummer

This does look like the best of the best. I'm gonna get it but the Yoga version. It's the same thing but only .056
pounds heavier.
Excellent video review, I cant wait to go for it. Just one big doubt, Does it work with Linux without problems?
Great video!
Really great laptop
Excellent review. One question, does the lid on yours closes evenly or does the right side stays a bit open?
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL REVIEW I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE. WOW!
Thanks! Really appreciate it!😀
Beautiful review 🌹
Will you review the Thinkpad X1 Yoga and do a comparison with the Carbon and Yoga C930? It seems the best of both of them, but it doesn't always work out that way. I'm considering these three and HP Spectre x360 15t Poseidon Blue Gem Cut. I've also heard the Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Yoga aren't as bad for showing prints in silver, but I don't know if that's true. Also, what do you think of the Gorilla glass version of the Yoga C930?
I'm also looking forward to new versions of the Thinkpad Carbon and Yoga launching in June.
I'm here using a t420 and its a shock seeing such a good screen on a business laptop. Guess like the people nowadays need to do a lot more than before.
I am still looking for a reason why they put 16:9 screen
lol yea true. TBH I don't think it's Lenovo's fault its because screen manufacturers now use 16:9 screens a lot more now, so its cheaper to buy whats high in supply. Kids nowadays just use laptops for netflix.
Can you review thinkpad p1 and thinkpad x1 extreme.
I have it with HDR display and I love it!
after watching the stats at 7:00 I decide to buy matebook x pro
Excellent video.. 2 things, I love this laptop but touch on the dolby vision screen and a kaby lake g with vega graphics woulda made this a perfect ultrabook in my opinion.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Good review!!! Thank you.
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
Can you review the thinkpad P50s?
That laptop have the Quadro P500 and the dual battery.
Sound interesting for CAD and simulation
thx for the vid, but I do think its a con DDR3 and no dGPU and in regards to Dolby visions and even HDR as a aspect.. I think you need black-control on a pixellevel for it to really shine.. ..
Love X1.. not available in India:( .. got a ThinkPad Yoga 260.. upgraded to 1TB SSD .. Love it!
Hi Andrew,
Can you refer to that lack of HDR support issue? Has it got resolved or at least announced to be resolved? Cheers
Best video. I love your videos...!!!
7:08 transition on bottom right benchmark is kinda broken
I was waiting for someone to notice that. lol
Andrew Marc David lol
Would this and the x1 carbon gen 7 (i7-10510u) have a huge difference? I mostly use figma, websurfing with about 10 tabs open and typing.
may you please review for me macbook air 2018, and majorly focus on the keyboard, your respond is highly needed.

Could you please COMPARE lenovo thinkpad X1 extreme & x1carbon Against Razor blade Laptop please Thank you so much
how come your channel has so low count of subs? this is a top-notch review.
Thanks! I really appreciate it! Hopefully the channel will continue to grow.
Very good review! Marc, which laptop would you choose, Lenovo X1 Carbon with an i5 and FHD Touchscreen or Huawei Matebook X Pro with an i5?
Touch decision for sure, as I like both devices. I would give the slight nod to the Matebook X Pro because of the 3:2 aspect ratio and the higher res display. But it is a very close call. Either way you can't go wrong.
How to active sim card slot of the thinkpad x1 6 generation?
