The hold back the darkness charts aren't rolled on when the roll is failed. They are rolled on when you roll a double when you roll to hold back the darkness.
It’s definitely worth to download the new revised rulebook and adventure books for both of the west base games. The upgrade kit does come with good balancing cards for the different characters. As well as New cards for exploration, etc. I do love these videos by the way I’m learning new things about the game! And thank you for doing this
It occurs to me that Brimstone, with its town expansions, reminds me of the computer game Darkest Dungeon, though no where near as grimdark. I know DD got a boardgame recently, but it was kickstarter only and AFAIK hasn't delivered yet.
These deep dives are pretty great. I'm working my way through the playlist right now. You make a really confusing and overwhelming game line make sense and has me excited for the game after getting frustrated about the lack of communication from FFG. You said in another comment reply that echoes what others have told me, back the kickstarter and then just set it aside until they deliver because the game I get will be great. Are you planning on adding more videos to the playlist when the new sets drop? They look pretty neat.
Thanks! I am no longer buying much SOB stuff. I have enough. So I probably won't be adding anything more to the series. I might buy some stuff here and there, we will see.
I remember being giddy with excitement when I first opened City of Ancients and saw all of the options in town. One of my favorite things in dungeon crawlers and video game RPGs is earning money and having plenty of cool stuff to spend it on.
Are you going to be discussing your house rules and modules in one video? I would love to have a starter talking guide on that. I've been contemplating Hexcrawl but honestly Im a bit confused how to even get it made and even how to use it.
Sorry if you already touched on this but it'd be really great if you did a playthrough with the Hexcrawl. I have not seen a single video of it being played.
So I have another question after watching this video. How complicated is tracking campaign progress in SOB? I am asking because it seems there are a lot of information that can only be tracked with Pen and Paper like in WHQ 95 i.e. the things purchased from town without item cards. It makes me wonder with the number of components the SOB games already come with, why they don’t go all out on a no Pen / Paper system.
'Campaign progress' is really just your character sheet. If they included cards for town items they would need 4-6 of each. In some cases more. Probably thousands of cards. For my very first session with a class I will use cards to referwnce and the large character card but after that the game is unmanageable with the amount of cards you will obtain. You could either stack them and forget to use a bunch of stuff, spead them out and have no table space, or organize them on a character sheet.

Sure thing!
The best dungeon crawl I own for sure. Such a beautiful game.

Yep! I wonder why more adventure and DC board games don't include the stuff you do between each quest?
Thanks for these videos... i hope to get fortress this summer...

I won't do a play through, but I will talk about how I play the game with Hexcrawl, and give some examples.
Looking forward to it and the rest of the videos.
Boring question, do you have your own laminating machine? Has it been a worth while investment?
Yes. and yes. I use it all the time. Super cheap, too.

I almost always end up using a character sheet. I wish they would just make a pen/paper system to use with the dungeon crawling components.
