  • A look at how Ian Urbina and an international team of reporters at sea and on land conducted a four-year investigation that revealed a broad pattern of severe human rights abuses tied to the global seafood industry. They focused on China because it has by far the largest high-seas fishing fleet and processes much of the world’s catch.

I am Indonesian. I worked on Taiwanese longline-fishing vessel in 2010. I can confirmed, even in different kind of fishing vessel, chinese are BRUTAL including the chinese crew. Beaten, scolding, fighting among the crew, etc. Even when my left arm broke, they never let me go home until I finished my contract. One of my colleague from Phillipine die (the cause is unclear) and they put him on refrigerator room next to tuna.

I remember looking at two South Korean large fishing boats at Tarawa, Kiribati in the late 1980's and they were disgusting, rust ridden and stinking, crew dressed virtually in rags. Australian supermarkets are well known for importing packaged seafood from China and Vietnam from cheap labour packaging factories, I will not buy them.🤔

Yeah man , this is in fact a sustainable way of fishing , do the people who commented about the fish stocks even know about fishing !? The Dutch fleet are far greater pirates than these poor guys , they kill everithing in their paths , systems like " flyshooting" or "electrotrawling", killing everything , even shrimp , clams , crabs , worms , entire eco-systems ...
This video is not about overfishing the international " lawless" waters , but about the poor workcircomstance of the "prisoners" on those ships !
As a sportsfisherman this makes me sad seeing how many people don't get the point ,even the guys who made this video .
This video should be titeld "prisoners abord fishing vessels"... 😢

Ohh my god! Not only brutal fishing but inhuman treatment, no freedom of speech, no freedom to decide your own destiny, that's the PLA policy til now as under communist government, sorry to say that because now my country is under threat of that government so I think we're in a protected country to our allies USA, Australia, Japan, India, and so many others that don't want war but peace, happiness, and life of the people is more important in our everyday existence❤️❤️❤️
