Please minimize the use of blurring effect. This is an educational film, and we seem to lose quite a lot of information trying to accommodate a small group who frankly should grow up and accept the uncomfortable reality of blood, violence and death in the natural human heritage that is hunting for food. Great documentary

( Mohon maaf jika salah )

In funerals, to seek forgiveness, to ask for a girls hand in marriage , we present these whale tooth which is braided on both end and its off great value. I have always wondered where our ancestors got this whale tooth because they didnt practise whale haunting. Since we are part of the austronesian family,i think i now know why.

come on, this is culture. we must respect the culture and must preserve their culture. Just so you know they don't do this every day, they only do it on special days in their culture. They don't just harpoon whales, they choose the biggest whales and let the other whales live and reproduce. They also guard their beaches and seas so that whales can breed and be comfortable there, the proof is that whales migrate and breed there. So, we must respect and see this habit as a culture that can be used as a lesson for the younger generation.

Harpoon fishing is sustainable, net fishing is not. They now fish with nets.

Mereka bukan pemburu paus.

If you want to conserved the whales go after those. Chinese that doing commercial fishing on whales not the lamanerans that only fish for their survival.

Great documentary but could be greater without blurring some events and please put some English subtitles of the men speaking while while fishing at sea. Otherwise loved it from Namibia 🇳🇦 .the commentary at 42:45 is interesting because in the western world people buy whatever they eat from the supermarket etc but people out in remote areas have to forage. Whatever is in the supermarket is slaughtered and harvested in cruel ways too but we are happy to shop and enjoy it but we judge people like these for making an honest natural and not so easy living. These guys are fit and healthy. No obesity and the ills of civilization

There people were doing their way of fishing maybe for centuries...modern fishing like the used nets could be destructive...could rapidly diminish fish stocks specially if there is no control like to ban harvesting of juvenile fish...during spawning time and fish with eggs

younger generation tends to pursue education in their main island and most of them even pursue bachelorate in java island like my high school physics teacher in the east java that merely most of his families study in the Java island come from Larantuka. it's not only happens there, but most remote villages in small islands younger generation tends to left their islands to pursue jobs in the big cities on their main island.

We need to introduce the alternative first and we need to help them achieve the objective. We need to make sure the new system is working then we can help them reduce the numbers of whales, dolphins and other species they hunt per seasons so their culture and traditions will not banish forever..
