    Being a life long Padres fan We needed a leader to turn the identity of the padres into something, and Manny was the perfect fit. Him Mentoring Tatis and hopefully helping Tatis when he comes back next season will be interesting, because Tatis will now be the villain in peoples eyes, because of his immaturity. If Manny Can lead, and Tatis matures mentally, Soto continues to grow and be the Soto we all know, and Kim follows Mannys mentor ship this Team will be amazing!

    Been a Pads fan since I could walk basically. The team over the last 15 or so years has had little to no identity. Manny brings the swag, the fun, and most importantly, the leadership. I disliked him a bit in Baltimore and was disappointed with stuff he did and said as a Dodger. But I'll be damned if I don't say he is my favorite player now. Dude goes and competes EVERY DAY. Incredible defense that he is overlooked for. Gold Glove snub anyone? Hits tanks and gets on base. He wants to win and that is so important for a ballclub. Hoping the boys piece it all together soon cause this dude deserves a ring after how much I've seen out of him in the past few years. Great breakdown! Cheers!

      I think the supervillain status was always unfair. People who want to act like he committed murder against Pedroia for doing something that was just simply a part of the game until very recently were always overreacting and looking for other reasons to justify their dislike of him. Manny was also one of several Padres players (including Tatis if I’m remembering right) who stayed to help escort fans from the stands through the dugouts helping to evacuate DC stadium in July 2021 when there was a shooting outside the stadium. He easily could’ve ran for cover, worrying only about himself, but instead he helped perfect strangers get to safety. That says all you need to know about the man.

    I wasn't sure of the Manny signing (as a Padres fan) but we were back east and the Padres were playing the Nationals, so we decided to go to the game and root for our team (Side Note: Nationals fans are terrific). The Baltimore fans that showed up to that game with Machado jerseys on was ridiculous. It was then that I knew we had someone who would soon be beloved by the city. Even with his opt out coming up, he ain't going anywhere. This is Manny's team. There isn't a decision made by the front office that doesn't go by Manny first. Seidler loves him. Fans adore him. I haven't seen this sort of admiration since Gwynn from Padre fans. The Padres are his team, and San Diego is his city.

    One key thing here...Hardy was in the midst of a career resurgence when Machado came up. His 2011 30 homerun season was a surprise to the Orioles and they rewarded him with a 3 year contract. The "twilight" of Hardy's career came after his next 3 year deal in 2015. He was a bonafide star for the Orioles from 2011-2014. The decline of both Hardy and Davis at the same time (among other issues) is what led the Orioles into a rebuilding period.

  • @fetch_happens

    Watching this after we just re-signed Manny today. The guy has been tremendous for us in SD. I understand the external perception of him...but if you watch him play every day and you see how he leads the team, it's impossible not to respect, if not love the dude as a player. Yes, he sometimes doesn't hustle down the line out of frustration. But he always plays hurt. And when he slumps at the plate he still plays sublime defense. Had if not been for a severe ankle sprain, he would have likely walked away with the NL MVP in '22. I'm biased, but I believe he was a helluva lot more valuable to the Padres than Goldy was to STL...and that's not taking anything away from Goldy's season.

      @The_King_Ginger 2 года назад +8

      No, Pedroia choosing to play 105 games that season after the injury, on a knee that had surgery the previous off-season, is what made an otherwise minor injury into a career ender.

      @christopherboccuzzi8761 2 года назад

      And what was the catalyst event that required surgery in the first place?
      Right.
      Machado is trash and so is this frail attempt to defend him.

    Didn't he also cleat Jesus Aguilar's foot unnecessarily. That was not a cool move

      @@MajorPayton35 Aguilar's foot was on top of the bag, which you're taught to never do as early as little league because of that exact thing. Manny had already blown out one knee at first base and had a right to the top of the bag.

    Did this guy say "defense runs scored"...?
    Padres lost to the Dodgers in the DS in 2020. Not the CS.
    Manny's ankle injury was in 2022. Not 2021.
