I remember the first time I ever saw this I laughed so hard i kept replaying it over and over, how the big boss guy was so angry and meanwhile these two were goofing off.
This movie & Top Gun had 3 things in common, they were directed by Tony Scott, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer & Don Simpson, & Tom Cruise played the lead characters.
I am a cart attendant at a shopping store, and I can honestly say these guys are safer drivers than some of the customers in my parking lot. Notice how they moved out of the semi's way at the last second. Now that simple act of kindness just wouldn't happen at my store.
As somebody who lived in Daytona Beach this movie makes me feel nostalgic. I was there (before we moved there in 93) in Daytona when they were shooting this in fact we stayed a few motels way from the Hilton (where they had the white car vs taxi scene) and the Sophie Kay's restaurant. but what made this scene funny is in one scene at 1:37 they are racing down Seabreeze away from AIA (where the motels and that restaurant was located at) and later on going over one of the many bridges that crossed Halifax river (which separated the main land from beach side).
Days of Thunder came on the TV one day on the CMT Channel. I was really happy to see the movie but then they cut this scene out. That was the last time I watch the CMT Channel lol
And if you close your eyes; you can imagine downtown Auckland, or Christchurch, with a commodore and falcon screaming head to head down queen street or along Brighton beach haha
Yes and Paramount got Sued for it too. But they don't tell anyone that in the Interviews between the 2 videos of the making of Days of Thunder.. that was made and uploaded to RUclips.
My Brother put up the " Patriot Car Rental " Signs and the Red & Blue Neon in the Bar Scene for Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer.. I Still To This Present Day Have Both " Patriot Car Rental " Signs but i have them in Storage.
Did you hear the song being played on the piano? It was Moon River, the same song that was played in the movie Born on the 4th of July during the prom scene.....
The Beach was pretty empty for July, not to mention the speed limit on there is 10mph, this scene is totally unrealistic!!! *sarcasm* for those who can't tell!
The reason why the beach was empty and no one was on the beach was because they Closed off that section of the beach to the Public while they were filming that scene of the 2 cars crashing into each other on the beach. The Reason how I know this for a fact is cause my brother put up the "Patriot Car Rental " Signs and the Red and Blue Neon in the Bar Scene for Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer..
"I ain't never liked him and probably never will," Dale Earnhardt said about Bodine after the 1987 Winston. Earnhardt, Bodine, and Bill Elliott were placed on probation after the All-Star Race. Just four days after Earnhardt made those comments, Bodine wrecked him in the Busch race at Charlotte. He was given a $15,000 fine later overturned upon appeal. After another flare-up at Charlotte in 1988, NASCAR called both drivers and car owners down to Daytona Beach to set things straight over dinner. An event directly emulated in "Days of Thunder."
One thing I didn't understand, Big John told Tim " if you cant control your race drivers any better than this..." Rowdy wasn't Tims' race car driver, just Cole. Now later in the movie when Cole and Russ Wheeler were going at it, than that would have made sense.
Thing is Tim was prolly the one taking most the hit. Usually that's the way it is. One is always further up sh*ts Creek than anyone else, both parties included.
I rewrote this scene for a fanfic! The Super Group F A1150 Racers. When Dr. Nick Patrick has an argument with Ivo Traubergs during Trophee Andros races they cause an accident that almost kills Frédéric Romeyer and are heavily reprimanded. Before meeting with promoters Gervoson and Mamers the quarreling racers gave the "common car" to the fiancee of Dr. Nick, resolving their issue racing on ice road with... Autocross ZAZ TAVRIAS! Sliding, crashing, just like days of thunder... With a note of Ronin (De Niro) car chases... When they arrive to "Maitre de la Tartiflette" the ZAZ are almost totaled... Max Mamers: Pourquoi ce retard? Dr. Nick Patrick: La voiture avait un petit probleme avec le radiateur... N'est-ce pas, Mr. Traubergs? Ivo Traubergs: Da, da. A bit of overheating...
Never did understand something, at 1:20 when Big John asked Tim about "controlling your race car drivers any better than this", but Rowdy isnt one of Tims drivers.
Realistically, you can't race on the beach. It's all broken up with no-traffic zones and the parts that do allow cars are jammed up with vehicle and foot traffic. I remember back in the day as a kid Daytona was like Mecca. As an adult it just seems a tedious tourist trap, made for drunk teenagers and over-the-hill bikers. If you want peace, beautiful beaches and good food go to the Gulf coast around Destin in the north and the Clearwater-St. Petersburg stretch in the south.
probably the best squashing of a beef and the birth of a friendship, ever
I think about this scene every time I rent a car
Now they are Buddy's

Nice

Absolutely
The way the music goes on/off in this scene as it cuts between them racing and to the restaurant lmao

Best part!
It was awesome that they started to become friends after that.
This movie & Top Gun had 3 things in common, they were directed by Tony Scott, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer & Don Simpson, & Tom Cruise played the lead characters.
And both had pure adrenaline moments
Don’t forget the homoerotic sunset beach competition scenes.
Feburary 2021, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon recreated this scene at the Daytona Road course on their way to the broadcast booth.
I've been to the dealer that supplied the Lumina used in this scene, City Chevrolet in Charlotte. Gotta love those happy coincidences.
