From my instructor in Geneva:
"For the exam, the first 15 minutes are the most important. Put him/her at ease and show him/her that you are comfortable, and always keep to the right lane, even on the motorway. Remember the 4 criteria for adapting speed, which are very important to know:
Visibility
Road width
Road conditions
Traffic density
If all 4 are okay, drive at 50 km/h in built-up areas, 80 km/h outside built-up areas, 100 km/h or 80 km/h on the Geneva ring road and 120 km/h on motorways.
What follows is very important for your driving this morning. On a narrow road without road markings, drive in the middle of the road (if you have no oncoming traffic and good visibility). Otherwise, drive as far to the right as possible without leaving the road.
Pay attention to your speed, especially in 30 km/h and 20 km/h zones, on the motorway, and always look for signs, which can be on the left or right side of the road. Think of the windshield wiper system: your wipers wipe on both sides of the windshield, not just one. Also, arrive at the correct speed, for example, wait to exceed the sign before accelerating (e.g., finish 60) and be dynamic and drive.
Remember the 4 criteria for giving way to traffic from the right, especially when there are no road markings:
Look for and identify the traffic.
Adjust your speed (based on visibility).
Check the right side, which is demonstrative, to show the inspector your intentions and to control properly. Also, check the left side in case someone does not behave properly.
Stop or continue.
Tips for identifying an intersection:
Street sign
Rounded corner of the sidewalk
Road markings
Pedestrian crossings
Left mirror
End of parking
End of buildings/houses
What cancels the priority of traffic from the right:
Bike lane
Cycle path
Bus or tram lane
Lowering of the sidewalk.
Anything that comes out of a private place, for example, a gas station.
When you come to a stop or give way, look carefully at the mirror on the left for lack of visibility. The same applies when you approach an intersection with right-of-way.
Entering the motorway: full throttle. Take advantage of the entire acceleration lane, and wait until you reach the correct speed before using your indicator. Using it too early can cause confusion. Do not slow down and do not brake until you are fully on the deceleration lane, and exit as early as possible.
Check your blind spots, especially at roundabouts, and always use your indicator. Even when there are obstacles, it is better to use it too much than not enough, without going to extremes. When taking corners, look at the centerline. If it comes towards you, stay close to it. If it goes the other way, stay away from it. When turning left, position yourself on the right, and when turning right, position yourself on the left.
Pay close attention to roundabouts, as the person coming from the left has the right-of-way, whether he is committed or not. It is very important regarding yesterday's driving. If he uses his right indicator, go ahead, but if he doesn't, don't move. Be mindful of your approach speed in roundabouts and intersections.
When preselecting (without markings), if you are turning right, position yourself as close to the right edge as possible. If there is a bike lane, get on it as soon as possible, provided that you do not obstruct the cyclists
Hope it helps :)
thanks!
Hallo Santosh. Good evening and hope your read my comment. I listened to your advice on how to pass the swiss exams in a first attempt. I got the book but online version, I invested in a driving teacher, taking more than 15 classes. I passed and will be getting my driving licence in a weeks time. Thank you so much for your advices. Also I want to encourage others, once you register with a school, please go with the person car and not yours. This will give the expert the confidence that you really did make your effort to pass. I wish everyone all the best
Thanks for your comment and Congratulations for passing the exam
G.evning sir .i know you are fine ...i live in solothurn .& weher i can buy driving book ..
I'm Swiss, failed my first try, thank you for the video. I totally understand my country is crazy
Sorry to hear that. I felt the same. However once you get the driving license, you will appreciate the reason (to keep the roads safe for kids, elders and others). I wish you best of luck for your next exam.
Hi Santosh, I cleared my Swiss drivers license practical exam at the first try today ( with my own car). I watched 2 of your videos a few times over the last two weeks and used your pointers to get over these very real problems you called out. Thanks for your help!!
Hi All, Hope you found the video interesting. If you want to practice your driving skills with me before the exam, send me a mail on santosh14kumar@yahoo.com. I speak English and I live in Aesch, Basel Landschaft, Switzerland.
Great video Santosh! Very informative and full of great advices.
Thank you. That's very helpful. The only difference is I had my friends ride with me to check my driving here before the exam. I made mistakes and as soon as they pointed out 5 mistakes and I made a really grave one, it was clear I was not ready so I didn't push through. So here I am trying to do it again and you're right that I should really invest in school. It's worth it. After all, it's a lifetime license.
From where did you give your exam?
Was it zurich Strassenverkehrsamt?
Hi Santosh, thank you for making this video as it really helpful. I moving to Basel and kindly can I request how can I apply for my temporary driver’s license with my Indian License and what is the process for that? Please do suggest what are the initial steps I should take, thank you in advance.
Such a helpful video, thank you so much! It is so invaluable to be able to hear about these experiences. 🙏🌠
Thanks Santosh, Nice details. I will be giving my exam in 3 months. Staying in Basel.
Thank you so much for the tips! Practicing as per the advice.

did you do your exam in English ? I'm planning to do my exam in Decemeber but my french isn't very good so I'm a bit nervous
I gave my exam in English and it was fine. Language is not a barrier if you know driving. Examiners are reasonable . Best of luck
I failed this exam! same like you, been driving for over 30 years so a big shop. I have been told that I have to start with square one though which is a first aid course and a learners. how is it that you got to do it again?
God bless you for this video!
Thanks Tefy
Thank you. Your explanation and tips are very helpful.

Can we give theory test exam in English language ?
Hello good afternoon sir , I have a valid driving license from Portugal,so how can I change my license to swiss license.please suggest me.
I already had 10 yera with Australian driving license, which expired so I had to take again theory test and driving test and I failed twice! One of the reason is matocolus way of looking at the both mirror, and look over you should as the lats one. 99% of experienced drivers fail on that.
G.morning ..can you tel me plz weher i can buy drivind book
Do they test hand signals or ask about street signs?
Please where can i buy this book?
where can I find this info that we need to take 10-15 classes before the practical exam?
Thanks very much. . Just have a question: Does the tester only use German to indicate the direction?
Mostly they use German. However before starting the exam you can ask if they can guide you in English. Elder examiner generally prefer German. Some of my friends who don't know German also cleared the exam without any issues.
Thank you for speaking English
I m a beginner…know nothing about driving…it’s a fear I want to conquer…live here too
