This is exactly what my car does. Figured out it was the starter because everything else works ok, like the relay etc
I thought it was one of three things, the battery, starter, or the alternator. But turns out it was just plain old cold temperatures . I had it sitting in the garage for a week. Once it became milder I was able to start my vehicle. Thank you for sharing this video though 😊
Good tips. I would like to add, Timmy was tapping on the "body" of the solenoid or starter. Do not hit the back of it, by the wires! It's possible to accidentally cause a short circuit and cause other issues.

That is exactly the problem I am having and my diagnosis matches yours. However I think you must use something beefier than a screw-driver to jar the motor to make it run even temporarily.

I think your videos are very informative and explained in simple terms unlike some of the others I watched. My husbands car would not start a few times yesterday and today and trying to figure out if it's tbe starter vs the battery is not ez for a novice. Do you have a Q&A format?

I had a Ford Escort LX and had to hit the starter with a broom stick...interesting that the starter never fail again
The ford's know.. if they stop working, they'll get beaten with a stick again!
You have to get a hammer and hit it wit it not hard but give it couple good hits while someone is trying to start the car at the same time

1) what is this theory for started by hit hard hit the starter motor ??
2) if the vehicle is running the road, Why and How come it sudden stop and need Restart ??
3) After restart by your hard hit then start again, do we need a new starter ?or this existing starter can get back normal function??

My starter makes that same sound but tested fine at Auto Zone multiple times in a row.
How did they tested?
I had hard time starting my car. Went to 4 Autozones.
They put the battery tester.
1) Told me was a bad alternator. $700 mechanic shop price for part and labor.
2) Tells me my 1 week old battery was bad. I exchange it and same problem.
3) Tells me, I could be the fuel pump not sending enough gas to engine. $800 part and labor.
4) Tells me is the starter. $700 part and labor.
I bought a remanufactured starter on Ebay for $110 and replacing it tomorrow, hope that's the problem.
I see here that if you test starter out of the car it works because doesn"t have any load but in the car it doesn't work because not enough power to turn the flywheel that turns engine on.
I might take my old one to O'reilleys to test it with their machine.

I learned this from the AAA driver on vacation. He whacked the starter once with a long prybar while turning the key and it started right up. Guess what I have in the trunk at all times?
I gotta Question, I bought a mustang with a bad radiator. Paid a shop to fix it and refill it with more coolant. And i drove it after well a couple weeks go by and my car starts saying it’s getting and and then cold, hot then cold. It’s not smoking so I genuinely don’t think it’s my coolant level because it just got filled. I thought it was maybe a sensor so I fixed the engine coolant temp sensor still didn’t fix, and I found a hole in a hose so I put tape over it. Thought it was just my temp gauge well I drove it and the hose from my air intake to my left valve cover blew a hole and my car shut off. Fixed both the hose but the car won’t start back up, now sounds like a starter but why would that go bad. It sounds like a whirring sounds when turning the key over. It doesn’t crank or start just a whirring sound and everytime it drains my battery more and more to the point my lights in the car get dimmed
My Buick Lucerne is doing the same thing … battery seems fine all my lights come on radio as well …. Just clicks one time and no start just like this

My sound is a lot louder than that I have a 2010 f150 and it did it today when I click on the start on the ignitions I just keep staying like the starter is like clicking really loud it just stays on there like the starters on stuck? Does that mean that I need a new starter?

I recently installed a new starter. The problem is the starter is free spinning. I've changed the battery terminals and installed a new battery. When I hooked up the new terminals to the battery. The starter is not engaging. What could be the problem.
Those dang things, but once their replaced their good for a long time.

I just happened to see the comment from Victor Villasanna....how would one know if he was hitting the wires...unless they are obvious and not encased in a tube or casing?
Do you mean if the starter has a heat shield, so you can't see it?
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos that's probably what I mean lol....we don't know the first thing about cars and diagnosing a problem or even identifying what is what under the hood. However we jump started the car with cables and it seems ok for now BUT we can't be sure what it is unless we take it to like an Auto zone
to make sure it's starter vs battery

Is that a bad solenoid or a bad bearings inside a starter?
Could be a bad solenoid, but I doubt it's the bearing doing that.

my 300sd's starter has stopped working 4 times now and each time I tap it with a hammer while someone else turns the key and it starts back up.
I was under the assumption that if the starter just clicks like in this video that it means the solenoid works but the starter is jammed but i dont actualy know how a starter works so I donno.
I just bought a new solenoid for my starter so im gonna install it and see if she keeps getting stuck and if so than that would indicate the starter is the problem or if she doest get stuck anymore after installing a new solenoid than I guess it would be the solenoid was my problem.
My starter is from 2017. I'm surprised it or the solenoids are already waring out.
