Projected service life. Thankfully Lockheed Martin isn’t building it because it would probably be 3 times the cost and subject to sinking without even seeing combat.. It may be in service for 90 years if the projection is correct, but may not be in the US Navy. 90 years is a long time and technology changes faster. I’d be willing to bet the US navy will have something else cooked up well before 90 years and these be sold to an ally. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if they come up with something better before the Ford class carriers have been built to replace the Nimitz class.
The tradition of breaking a bottle of champagne over the bow of a ship is a christening or blessing and is meant to bring good luck to the ship and it's crew.
7:30 - "75 is too much..." There isn't such a thing as too much firepower. If you have more than enough, it's a silent message to your enemies: F* around and Find Out.
Hi! Just wanted to note. One of the reasons the U.S. has what we do in terms of military anything is that by contract, treaty, or agreement with other countries, we protect and defend 150 out if 195 countries in the world. You have to have alot of people, tech, and equipment to do this for just under 75% of the world.
I've always been one of those people screaming "America should not be the policeman of the world". Having watched recent events unfold with China and Russia I now thank god America is the policeman of the world. From the UK
Sadly aircraft carriers don't really support many countries accept one Japan and no we dont plan to deploy the gerald r ford class super aircraft carriers to eny countries present or future.
In addition to the Ford Class Super Carriers we have 10 Nimitz Class Super Carriers. But what many forget are the 9 Amphibious Assault Ships which are more similar to other countries regular carriers size and launch capabilities. To give an idea of the power of a Super Carrier strike group, each of the 9 Carrier strike groups in Americas Navy have more firepower and destructive capabilities than all the weapons used by every country in WW2. The latest War games show in a war with China, the US would likely loose 2 maybe 3 carriers, China would loose 90% of its entire military. All 3 of Chinas carriers have less ability than ONE Ford class carrier.
I’m anxiously waiting for the Pontiac Class Carriers. The upgrades with chrome trim on the sponson decks and various sized cup holders on the ships bridge. 🤣 Those are just a few that don’t come standard.
If you needed it, you wouldn't think it was too much. It is also worth noting that it makes people think twice before attacking it. I would rather have one I don't need, than need one I don't have.
The USS Ford strike group is currently on station in the eastern Mediterranean, with the USS Eisenhower strike group recently relocating to the Gulf of Aden, in support of the nonsense currently unfolding in the region. In case you were not aware 🙂
The Carrier and the Carrier Battle Group exists not to start wars, but to end them before they ever start or to end them before they reach US Soil. It’s very intimidating to park a CBG off the coast of an are where an upstart is thinking of trying something. Iowa Class Battleships were used in the same manner.
this is what i have heard or read all my life. too bad it's not true. weapons, especially the insanely expensive ones, are made to be used, not just to be carried threateningly around the world. the damned communists who ruled my country before were right about at least one thing: they called aircraft carriers "weapons of terror".
If the US had bad intentions toward others we could do a lot of damage. We do not. Unless YOU have hostile intentions, you need not fear. Most of what we do is to calm tensions and hostile actions. To keep a lid on wars. Promote peace talks. We do not like acting like the rorld's police, but uts tge price of being THE superpower
Just to also put things in perspective, most of the times when something is "retired", it is stored in a special whay that in a matter of months can be brought back online with modern upgrades. The amount of "retired" naval vessals and aircraft waiting to be reassembled is outrageous.
Except when you have a leftist president and leftist Congress raised in the 60’s who really want to make sure the military is being cut. Hence, the Enterprise is being immediately scrapped.
I love my across the big blue skies friends you're one of my favorite peoples! I'm learning right along with you guys about my own country, military and historical part. I'm glad I found The Loud Guys! I always give a thumbs up because I really like you guys. "❤"

America represents peace if other country would quit threatening peace an life it would be a great world every one loves life an family if they don’t they are a threat to the world
To clarify for these two when they say the ship will last 90 years. They mean that's how long the Hull will last. You can expect this carrier to get a bunch of upgrades and retrofits through out it's service life. The Gerald R Ford as it's launching today. Would get absolutely destroyed by one of it's upgraded versions. At least if all goes to plan.
I have actually been on the Gerald Ford Carrier before it was fully commissioned and had a cool tour of the floating island. It is very big, as you would expect. That electromagnetic launching system is awesome. It produces about 30% more sorties per hour, so it has a better launch rate. The electrical capacity brings in new weapons systems like high-energy direct lasers that will be a boon. Also, those explosions are part of the shock testing for this carrier, and the blast is like 60 tons of TNT and gets a 3.0 on the Richter scale. It is an awesome piece of warfare that will be a great asset going into the future. I know $13 B is a lot, but a 50+ year lifespan makes it more reasonable. India has been doing well for itself on the aircraft front with the HAL Tejas fighter that took a bit to get going, plus it is carrier capable. I see good advances in tech coming from India and expect good things coming forward, especially with HAL producing a decent 4th gen aircraft. I am looking forward to the Tejas Mk 2 upgrade, getting it to the 4+ gen, and moving forward. Making stuff indigenously is a good thing instead of depending on Russia or France. Good thing India canned the Su 57 aircraft purchase as that aircraft is junk.
The video left out all the humanitarian aid that a USA aircraft carrier can and has done. The new aircraft carriers can be turned into a giant hospital if needed.
to my Indian friends in the comment section I want you to consider this: America started with a bunch of rube farmers that quite frankly didn't know the muzzle end of their musket from a hole in the ground and then we managed to beat the world superpower Great Britain and chase them off our lawns and ever since then we have been embroiled in one conflict or another with very limited periods of peace in between naturally such a people would innovate and streamline the unaliving process for others. and while yes the Gerald r Ford class of carrier is an impressive technological and military achievement never forget that it is the men and women of our armed forces that make these floating fortresses more than just a showpiece. Americans are varied and most are wonderful people but I believe that within each American there is a fighter the likes of which the world has not developed a defense for. now we have lost our way a little but all it will take is one rogue state to attack us and once again we will close ranks and turn all of our attention on our aggressor and when you have the entire country's attention.... well I'd tell you your odds but I would just be beating a dead horse.
To the lady. Its not to grab, its to prevent others from grabbing. We as Americans believe we are protecting the world from evil. Not one country do we control that we have been to war with. Just letting you know. Bless you
Dear loud guys. She is 100,000 tons of love and peace. Like a warm blanket. To protect our future generation. She was purposely built to defend. And when required, she can attack. Showing no mercy to her enemies
Rearming & refueling in MINUTES.... I will note that this video only glazes the surface of what makes these so amazing. Most of it is fairly secret. These aircraft carriers are all nuclear powered. They can come up to full speed and stay there...out-pacing most other ships in the carrier group. Other ships have to slow down for refueling/resupply, ect. And it's never just a carrier, it's a carrier group. Nuclear subs, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and supply ships-just to name a few, and they're monitored from space as well...
They failed to mention the Cash for Gold store, the Vape Shop, the Payday Loans office, the Costco Express (great chicken), and the Mini Mall on deck 4.
Just to give an addition perspective of how powerful a U.S. Navy nuclear super aircraft carrier is. A carrier with a full complement 75 to 82 combat jets, support aircrafts and helicopters is larger than the entire air force of many countries.
If this aircraft carrier were a country, it would be about 140th in world GDP, ahead of about 55 other countries. Power gives you both protection and exploitation. Just like the big kid on the playground. The option is yours.
So the ceremony where she smashed the champagne bottle when the ship was finished dates back to an old British tradition where wealthy nobles would, I think, toss silver into the ocean after a new ship was built as a token of good luck, but during the wars with France in the 1800s it became too costly to toss silver and was changed to smashing bottles of wine on the hull instead and that tradition just carried over to us here even after we became our own nation, at least I think thats how it went, I could be wrong just read a short article about it few years ago so I may have gotten some stuff wrong
You should've seen the Ford leaving the Navy Base heading into the Chesapeake Bay,Its hard to describe.Dont forget about the structure below the waterline.
Hey there "Loud Guys", The U.S. spends huge amounts of money on defense. We are serious about defense. One of these Aircraft Battle Groups has MORE firepower than some nations!!!! They are small cities on the ocean, 6,000 person crew. 18,000 meals a day!! Power projection on a grand scale!!!!!! Plus we have allies we shall fight for!!!!! You two take care!!!!!
they call it "floating cities" ... the average crew is 5,000 sailors !! .... this is just a basic video - a lot of the "real" information is still classified !!
The reason the ford was so expensive was she was the lead ship and has many significant advanced technological advancements like magnetic launch systems to man other still very classified technologies.
My son graduated high school at 17 I had to sign them over to the government he went to basic training in the Navy and trained to be an electrician on the USS John stennis aircraft carrier at the age of 17 he became an electrician That's my boy my dad was in the Air Force my brother and I were in the US Army and of course my son was Navy
Long ,mid and short range defense weapons plus a full fleet of ships with it it’s basically a floating army base !!I didn’t even mention the air craft…plus we have 11 air craft carriers with fleets !!
$13 billion, because it's the first of it's kind. They use technology that was still being developed as the ship was built. Subsequent ships will cost somewhat less, once the builders get the kinks ironed out. The more units ordered and built, the less they will cost, because the R&D and startup costs can be spread out among all of them. (and parts, equipment etc can be ordered in bulk, instead of each being a one-off) One of the reasons Zumwalt cost so much, is that the program was ended at 3 ships. Thus the HUGE R&D cost made up a larger portion of the sticker price of each. And just think: this video shows you only the public domain details and capabilities of these ships. A lot of it is heavily classified- for obvious reasons.
The advance military planning and budget(s) has nothing to do with greed. It has everything to do with being ready and taking on the unexpected. For some mystical reason(s) we still remember Pearl Harbor, Stalin, The Iron Curtain, The Cuban Missile Crises, The Iran Hostages, 911, etc.....
Ok, this houses 7500 sailors, had an airport with tower jas 8 dquadrons of plaines. 2 nuevoear powered engines. Has a lot of recreation areas as those men can be out to sea for months. Its a small city. 13 Billion is a lot of money, its not unreasonable for what you get.
Being a sailor brings a lot of superstitions. The bottle breaking ceremony brings a ship luck on its voyages, if the bottle doesn’t break on the first hit, it is a bad and unlucky omen.
It just amazes me that people are surprised not only that new technology exists but that we spend money on it. When you consider that between, world wars, wars to support our allies, to help flegling goverments succed against bullies maintaing oil interests world wide which lets be honest, absolutely every country on earth has a vestwd interest in stable oil prices, we have been threatened by nearly every powerful government and a lot of lesser ones, its in our best interest and survival to have the best most technilogically superir equipment. We di not have the largest standing military. We compensate by having the best trained and best equipped military
US Navy doctrine (USA law) requires 11 active aircraft carriers at all times. There are only 21 aircraft carriers in the world, and no other country has more than 2.
She's cute. Number of carriers by country: : United States of America - 11 India - 2 Italy - 2 Japan - 2 China - 2 United Kingdom - 2 France - 1 Russia - 1 Spaing - 1
People think the US cost of a carrier is 13 billion. This doesn’t include the cost of the air wing, missiles, supplies and the cost of paying 5 to 6 thousand personnel. When you add the rest of the carrier strike group , you’re looking at 10’s of billions of dollars.
I will tell you one thing as a veteran of the navy from the early 90s i would never join the shirt show it is now. Youd have to be there back then to realize command hates enlisted.
Officers prefer robots. When not in use put back into storage. Be it known we only kept officers around to fight other officers, and to break our planes.
Is that daughter of Gerald Ford the one that had her high school prom at the White House? I remember she was supposed to be quite the party girl and would have normally been failed so she could not graduate, which would then cancel the WH prom, but in the end, the teacher who wanted to fail her was pressured to pass her so she could graduate.
5 acres of American sovereignty anywhere in the world. BTW, Carrier strike groups don't hang around in a cluster like the video shows. Many are out of visual range of one another. These task forces take up a huge amount of space. Try to fuck with them. lol
Here is one other thing to keep in mind. the US Air Force is the most powerful air force in the world. the second most powerful air for is the US Navy. followed by the Russian air force in 3rd, and in 4th place, the US Army and in 5th the US Marine Corps. there may actually be more than 10 Ford Class Carriers. the current plan is for a 13 to 15-carrier fleet and that could possibly raise to even more with the threats China is making in the pacific. 2 of the 13 carriers being the Ronnald Reagan sub class of Nimitz Class carriers, which are the USS Ronald Reagan, USS George H. W. Bush. The current trend in naming aircraft carriers is for them to be named after Presidents, Navy Heros, or members of the senate. I suspect the names Nimitz, Carl Vinson, and John C Stennis, to be retired. especially considering John C Stennis (the Ships Namesake) political leanings as he was opposed to civil rights in the 60s. and in the current political environment in the US right now, i can see another ship named after him.
Why do we need this as Americans?? Good question. Answer will vary based on whom you ask. Here is a reasonable response we have all heard at some point: Wish for peace but be prepared for war. I once questioned why we need such expensive and deadly machines. With the cost of a few F22 's you could solve several of our cities financial woes. In the early 2000's there was really no need. Then in 2014 Russia reminded us why NATO needs to exist. I have since stopped questioning the why and have accepted this reality.
These ships are being bhilt to be in service for a minimum of 50 years of hard service. It's not just being a ship that is hard bet being a nonstop airfield, so these ships get pounded both ways, think its worth the price tag. The blast in the geginang of the video is part of the sea trials before it cen ever join the fleets.
Imagine if we put that much effort in loving each other, not killing. I know it's only used in defense, but why do people have to start shit, like Russia?
They had issues with the Gerald R Ford during construction. They had the new catapult not work properly. They had to install new laser cannon features on the carrier to defend itself from the new Chinese missiles. Think the delay was a couple years if Im not mistaken.
You are correct. The electromagnetic catapult did have some initial issues, but it mostly worked out now. Also, remember they made like 12 upgrades to the first one, and that cost time, money, and delays to the initially planned carrier. There were other issues with the toilets, as mentioned, and other things, but they have mostly been resolved now as it has been operational for a bit. The next ones will have more upgrades and just get better with time.
@@kokomo9764 Whatever, lol. These warfare systems have a lot of stuff you dont know about. So quit pretending. The money got allocated 2 years ago. Petraeus mentioned that system for every capital ship as a future install. That was over a year and a half ago.
This feels like listening to tech support showing expensive costs on military equipment. 😱 Yikes! How can we afford all this? Explain please. 😳 I’m confused. 😖
Everything? One thing it does not do is that it can't elevate the US out of its debt and that is 34 trillion and counting. It also does not expand US trade in the world. It is running on the US credit card.

That dude really said America is becoming dangerous in what rock have you been living under for the last 50 years dude
Our stalwart allies benefit as much from these carrier groups as we do. Let us pray we never need to use this weapon.
Yes India signed that treaty with the USA.
Dont forget about the fast attack subs that shadow the carrier
Wait till they mount the newest lasers on this beast. This ship could power a medium size city plus have enough power for full operations
Don't worry; we had a coupon.
Holy Shit, that was loud....guys!
US Navy doctrine (USA law) requires 11 active aircraft carriers at all times. There are only 21 aircraft carriers in the world, and no other country has more than 2.
You have to adjust for Inflation, it is actually cheaper to build then the Nimitz, after inflation adjustment.
She's cute. Number of carriers by country:
:
United States of America - 11
India - 2
Italy - 2
Japan - 2
China - 2
United Kingdom - 2
France - 1
Russia - 1
Spaing - 1
People think the US cost of a carrier is 13 billion. This doesn’t include the cost of the air wing, missiles, supplies and the cost of paying 5 to 6 thousand personnel. When you add the rest of the carrier strike group , you’re looking at 10’s of billions of dollars.
Now if they could just get the ultra-modern and ultra-expensive toilet system to flush!
New “electromagnetic” launch system. Thank you Disney!
Yes, we protect our nation. But we also protect our alias in the world.
We are continuously building new fleets
5 acres of American sovereignty anywhere in the world.
BTW, Carrier strike groups don't hang around in a cluster like the video shows. Many are out of visual range of one another. These task forces take up a huge amount of space. Try to fuck with them. lol
90 years? Why not? We've been using the B-52 for over 70 years.
You two are cool!
“Americas becoming dangerous”. We’ve always been dangerous, we just keep our cool 😂
Still lost to Vietnam and Afghanistan 😂😂
COME ON MAN the cvs miller is the DEI insert
Why do we need this as Americans?? Good question. Answer will vary based on whom you ask. Here is a reasonable response we have all heard at some point: Wish for peace but be prepared for war. I once questioned why we need such expensive and deadly machines. With the cost of a few F22 's you could solve several of our cities financial woes. In the early 2000's there was really no need. Then in 2014 Russia reminded us why NATO needs to exist. I have since stopped questioning the why and have accepted this reality.
It’s good luck to bust a bottle of champagne on the front of a new boat or ship
Always gotta be ready for Putin, chi and North Korea
These ships are being bhilt to be in service for a minimum of 50 years of hard service. It's not just being a ship that is hard bet being a nonstop airfield, so these ships get pounded both ways, think its worth the price tag.
The blast in the geginang of the video is part of the sea trials before it cen ever join the fleets.
Imagine if we put that much effort in loving each other, not killing. I know it's only used in defense, but why do people have to start shit, like Russia?
Everything except a Pool Table and a Swiming pool :)
Not to mention the air space defense of 1200 satellites and new f-22 and f35 fighter jets that have air supremacy over any other nation.
The Chinese have a 500 year goal. The US has a 100 year goal . Think about it.
They had issues with the Gerald R Ford during construction. They had the new catapult not work properly. They had to install new laser cannon features on the carrier to defend itself from the new Chinese missiles. Think the delay was a couple years if Im not mistaken.
There are no laser systems currently on the Ford.
Don't forget the toilet/sewage system issues!
@@nasabielas I know that. Im former military. I always keep up with the toys.
@@kokomo9764 Whatever, lol. These warfare systems have a lot of stuff you dont know about. So quit pretending. The money got allocated 2 years ago. Petraeus mentioned that system for every capital ship as a future install. That was over a year and a half ago.
Kind of sad when you think about hey.
A good example for being friends with the United States
Yes they are small cities on the water armed with enough hellfire to destroy the planet 100x over its terrifying😂
The Most Powerful Force in World is a US Navy Carrier Task Force. Period.
PLEASE HIT PAUSE IF YOU’RE GOING TO TALK, PLEASE!!!
The only thing this ship will have trouble with are those damned UFOs that keep buzzing around.
All of americas aircraft carriers habe atleast one nuclear sub,, not far away
