I enjoyed this discussion so much . I am 58 years old and gay and have been with my partner for 22 years and I’m going to integrate what you suggest into my relationship . I especially love telling the other partner 5 needs that we have . I think it’s doable and a great way to promote closeness and intimacy . These are things that anyone in a relationship can try - doesn’t matter whether you are gay or straight . Love is love … and yearning for authentic connections and relationships are desired regardless of sexual preference . Keep doing what you do Dominique - I think of you as a wise and caring teacher . Thank you for all your efforts to deliver wonderful and helpful content ❤️🙏

I'm over 70 and began my menopausal journey at 50, with a doctor who denied that I was in peri-menopause because of hormone levels. My hormones had always (previously) been high, but he wasn't interested in hearing it. I went through the transition, am now post menopausal, but knew absolutely nothing about what was happening. My heart palpitations were off the charts and the pain I had from vaginal 'atrophy' was excruciating and didn't improve. Years later, I came across Dr. C Northrup and in using one of her recommendations, the atrophy was remedied. I was shocked and am very grateful. Thank you so much for your insightful podcast. It's heartening to know that the next generation of women will not have to suffer and will have the needed information to navigate this important time of life - this can only be good.

My partner introduced me to many, many things I had no idea turned me on, so it’s not all about “knowing yourself” - far from it - you often need someone else to awaken desires in you that you don’t even know are there. And body image is a huge factor as well.

Okay, I just started watching this but had to jump in and say that lack of interest or sexual aversion within a relationship can also be due to having a bad unhealthy relationship with a partner and especially not feeling loved or valued within the relationship. Okay, I'm back the other thing I want to mention is that body image plays a role in this too. If we don't feel beautiful or if we feel we are being compared that is like a wet sock. Idk this issue is quite complicated in my opinion..

I love this conversation. I am over here in this exact place as well. Even my female GP doctor hasn’t helped. I told her I feel terrible during perimenopause…gave her the list including libido…just not handling it well. Her response: getting old is hard. That was it. Then I asked what to expect during this and when will it end. She gave me the Merriam-Webster definition of menopause (not even anything about the perimenopause phase)…and then said, “Anything else?” My Ob-Gyn was slightly better, but due to underlying conditions I can’t do HRT. So the response was kind of bleak and no alternatives to feeling completely just uncomfortable/unhappy in so many ways. I am just glad to hear this spoken about since no one tells us or prepares us for this time of life. At this age I feel more sure of me, I have an amazing 33 year marriage, my incredible kids are grown living great lives, and I am a fully grown person with skills. While I should be flourishing…I am struggling with functioning.

My best and most humble advice is- what ever exercise and weight training you are doing in your 40s, be prepared to DOUBLE your effort because the muscle and bone loss (which affects your strength and physical appearance-which can then negatively impact your emotional being) is tremendous after menopause. I knew about these things but was unprepared and utterly shocked at how fast it happens and how much it happens - and, I’ve exercised and eaten well my whole life. I thought my current level of exercise and strength training would suffice. I also thought my healthy diet would be fine (I have never ever had weight gain and loss my 20 lbs from pregnancies almost immediately after birth) and what I learned, too late, was I needed to double my efforts in both categories- exercise and diet.

Hello Dominique. This is a wonderful interview. I’m 72-years old and have been on HRT for 20 years. I remember the scare studies that were coming out around the time I was perimenopausal. So many doctors fell for it, and probably never read the big scare study that came out of Canada for themselves. As a result, thousands of women’s bodies have needlessly dried up, in many ways. I’m in incredible health - so much so that my doctors are blown away by my physical condition. I have a health and fitness over 40 website called Bodies of Evidence - I am a living, breathing body of evidence that certain things DO
work. Many of those things were rejected by the medical and pharmaceutical industries for decades. We NOW have the scientific evidence to prove that those rejections were wrong. Thank you for putting this information out there.

She’s ok with topical just no oral medication that gets in your bloodstream. Prior to our discussion of her not prescribing them she just referred me to the candy man as I call him. An ob/gyn who gave whatever HRT. He mentioned the cancer to, but ultimately said it’s up to you how you want to live the rest of your life ie happy, joyful, in a great mood, etc with the risk of cancer whether breast, uterine, etc. or be miserable, moody, bitchy (among other things like dryness and pain) for the rest of your life. That’s a pretty sad option. 😭😭.

I would like to hear more about how safe it is to take hrt Estradiol for 20 yrs plus at age 66 after total Hysterectomy at 45. One of my drs said I didn't need to stay on it due to increase risk of blood clots and breast cancer. I tried once to lower dosage about 8 yrs ago and it didn't go well. Would love to hear more about balancing risk for us getting older.

I agreed with the woman that commented great podcast!!! It is a subject that is like taboo to talk about but the #1 question I have, is why are our doctors still quoting research from the past when new is out there? Why are our doctors that even if we’re looking up a specialist are not really taught in that specialty? And my last question is why are men taking care of females when they don’t really have a clue what a female body is doing granite not even all female doctors themselves are good at being the doctor we need but when you’re not getting the help, nor the answers that you’re seeking, what does that say about our physician community, and how does that play into her studies with women 45 to 60 are given the wrong information?!?

I made a comment about your great show today and want to mention a show idea in this comment. I would like to see a show about what the best foods and / or diets are for heart health, cholesterol i.e.....Mediterranean diet, keto etc...I am well versed about the foods not to eat. However, it is increasingly hard to figure out what are the best and most healthy foods, especially for our midlife? Thank you, Dominique
