It looks like your driving in the windows xp desktop background.
so true!
haha, bc the xp background is a photograph of the rolling hills in Norcal...
Would be a nice place to visit :)
I miss Windows xp....
Lmfaooo
Give Randy something better than long-form commercials.
We like Randy. We like cars. He's a pro race driver. Have do some real race shit!
Yes. True. I think that a lot have learnt nothing else than buying BF Goodrich ;)
At least bring the level of The Racing Line up a bit. This stuff is just too, too basic. And I've never even driven on track. Respect the audience a little more!
just commented almost in exact same terms. It's a shame someone as knowledgeable as Randy, gets stuck doing overly scripted, basic episodes like this.
Willy, get out and Drive on the track!! =) It's all about the basics. Putting them all together is what makes fast, consistent, REPEATABLE, laps possible. The only problem is the addictive nature of this expensive habit.
THAT is good advice. Thank you!
Why is my adblock broken again?
Some channels need sponsorship in order to keep making great content. If MotorTrend wants to use advertisements whilst making great content, they can shove as many brands in my face as they like.
agree
I think they over did the advertising on this episode. it put me off the show a little bit
+TheNicknack43 +1
Mine worked fine.
Are they driving on a race track located in Heaven?
My exact thought, I thought the thumbnail was computer generated.. this track truly looks like heaven.
That's probably Thunderhill West in spring
This shit was filmed on a green screen?!?
Its called grass, and you can find it out side in a park close to your cave
+TheGamingConqueror well to be honest, it really does look like the background was edited in
It had it's moments...😂
How can you tell
the camera is exposed for the sky, which would make randy appear too dark, so they used a ton of bounce cards (as seen in the reflection of his glasses) to add more light to him but it makes him look more like he's in a studio. The combination is something that looks well-exposed, but very unlike what a typical phone camera or even DSLR video can capture alone. IMO the scenery looks amazing!
Ad block, why you no work?
Well said!
.
Still works for me.
At least a couple people got the funny 😂
*****
Because they know what Brand tire they used for this Episode... By the way, what was it? or because some people still see ads before the video starts?
That track has a telletubbies feel
It's pure advertisement video!
I watched about 45 seconds and had to turn it off. Motortrend is pathetic now.
+Matt Jones fuck off they are trying to run a business one ad for an American company doesn't effect shit
+Nathan Hall Was that necessary? I don't have a problem with ads. I have problems with ads disguised as entertainment.
yea dude thats how they make their money
Sometimes we forget that MotorTrand still needs to earn as a company. I love their shows and production. Like it or not, these shows will incur costs. Having one or two of these 'infomercials' will help them give us shows that we like.
People finally realize how important tires are. Next time you say "Corvette is as fast as a 458 or 911" remember that the Corvette comes with sticky track tires and those two come with street tires. That's how certain cars manage to set those crazy lap times on the Nurburgring so they can brag about being faster than their competition, but it's actually all due to the tires that give them 1-2 seconds per mile of advantage.
All OEMs use street tires save for a few low volume models. Corvette is no different than Porsche or Ferrari, and most use top tier tires though may differ in model or size. Corvette (even the Z06) definitely does not come with anything close to resembling the R1S shown in this video, and comparing it to high end manufacturers on the basis of lap times is definitely relevant. A manufacturer chooses the tire it wants to place on its vehicle. Sometimes they choose a more all weather based tire, but when journalists test these cars, they can only go by what the manufacturer provides. The 911S comes with Pirelli PZero tires whereas the Corvette Z51 comes with Pilot Super Sports, both very much street tires.
The 458 comes with Michelin Sport Cup 2s(the same as the corvette) or Pirelli P Zeros( which are nearly as good as the Michelins).
Wrong the corvette doesn't come with anything close to the R1S shown in this video
lol are you for real? Corvettes come with street tires... stickey ones, but still street tires. Any car you can buy at a dealership and drive home comes with street tires.
Yep thats why the z28 camaro sounds soooo fast but really its on racing slicks
This is so American aha. The ads.
LMAO.👍
It's so evident that I'm not even mad
+Dana Fletcher shhhhit how do you adblocc
ARE YOU A FOREIGN IMMIGRANT??
Unless you're a native american, you are a foreing inmmigrant.
5 seconds is astronomical in the same car with the same driver on the same day. awesome representation of the difference contact with the road. to make up that much of a difference through the car's performance by adding horsepower it would probably cost over $15,000 in performance upgrades easy. or you can simply slap on a set of race tires when you go to the track...
A full set of rims and race rubber isn't going to be cheap either and you are going to need a second vehicle to get you to the track. If you are into tracking, that may not be a big deal but then you still dealing with a car that is setup for driving on the street. A suspension setup for the track will yield huge gains as well, my point is this where many people switch over to a dedicated track car.
GlassTopRX7 valid point but a tire swap at home and then driving to a local truck would not be that messy a project for a Saturday. I wouldn't go as aggressive as they did in this video but a set of Pirelli Trofeo R's (McLaren P1) you could drive there and back in your Mustang or Cadillac CTS-V... Kick-Ass and then drive home swap back to your regular tires and be back to work on Monday. You would need a second set of rims but that's what Craigslist is for. Whole thing could be done for under 3 Grand. Which I would say is a reasonable investment for weekend only fun.
+Michael Daniels II The example car in this video wouldn't be a prudent choice for a track vehicle, but a coupe would fit track tires nicely behind the seats and in the trunk, so a second car wouldn't be needed. And everything works in harmony, I've seen people lose time on track when upgrading suspension (without touching tires) due to the chassis being out of balance with overly aggressive spring rates not meant for street tires. Also a tire like the Nitto NT01 is a perfect "drive to the track tire". Very long life, lasts tons of heat cycles and still provides 75-80% of the performance compared to something like the R1S.
Alan Bowers yeah I have no idea why they chose a drop top??? I mean other than the obvious reality that they didn't choose a drop top it was just the one vehicle they could find two of in a moment's notice to do this comparison. But if you're not buying something like a 458 or R8 I don't see the need for a drop top. Of course that's just me personally.
John Johnson Your point?
forgot the tire minute
Lmao!
I love how they effortlessly drive a mustang (a car known for torquesteer) with the traction control off around corners-using oversteer to their advantage without even thinking about it. Words cannot explain my envy lol
wumpascott I hope you meant known for oversteer lol, torquesteer is in front wheel drive Cars
@@hughjanus7029 you can still understeer in a rwd car
@@louiscrespo1280 still not same as torquesteer
Explained like for a baby. On the other hand, that's what an average YT viewer is. Oh well.
So you think you're a hero now?
And that joke is so todler-ish.
"Hey! If you drive with the top down it's gonna rain on ya!"
Thank's captain obvious....
There's power in simplicity.
How do you want them to explain it
Man I love this series, Randy is such a great host
I hope that was sarcasm lol
2 men, who are smart, trying to explain in laymens terms, not very well. Come on guys, we're smarter than that, let's talk about deflection and slip angle differences and different pressures to achieve the feel you want
So tired of watching this.
dont fucking watch it then, if you dont like it just fuck off
They are so few and far between, don't watch.
+MULTIBASHUR 1999 it was a tire joke...
+Red lol fail
+MULTIBASHUR 1999 It was a joke, tire(d)
feelings like this is a commercial set aside, Randy Pobst is the man. love this guy.
The view of this track is stunning!
I don't see how anyone could not like Randy Pobst, he's such a likeable cool guy, and an amazing driver to top it off.
A lot of people bitching here about the vid, and I am sure 98% have never been faced ant car or track days ! I been racing for some 34 yrs from beginner to Trans-Am back to Vintage and have used many brands over time and all make good rubber and more important is how you set your vehicle up for the race and how you drive, some guys are fast but overdrive their car and use up their tires (usually the young guys !) but most top brand tires are great on the trick and BF Goodrich has been for 50+ years and they have the history to prove it ! : )
When they BF Goodrich gives you a huge check
Jesus, their delivery sounds like a bad QVC promo.
Yes Randy is the new Shamwow guy
Tires are EVERYTHING. Even if you're never going to track your car, spend good money and get the best tires you can afford. They are literally your only contact with the road. What constitutes "best" is of course going to be different from one driver to another. Evaluate your needs honestly, educate yourself and choose wisely. You're going to have those tires on for quite a while, so make sure you pick the right ones.
+Whatareyoudoingyouidiot I couldn't agree more! I'd much rather spend the money on grip I may never need than to savemoney on a tire for that one moment when I don't have enough grip to evade or stop.
Even more important when you are driving in a area that has snow like the midwest. Great snow tires can mean the difference between getting somewhere and the shop.
Unless you like doing burnouts and drifts, in which case you should compromise and try to get a much cheaper tire that doesn't suck. Usually one that doesn't get as good of a tread life but has similar traction to the more expensive ones are the ones to get.
That background scenery looks beautiful
I love these videos. even if they're cheesy. they are very informative and easy to understand. I hope these videos continue forever!
Look, Randy in an ad with Google ads on top of it! What a cool new internet age ;)
PLEASE keep The Racing Line episodes coming Motor Trend!! This is such a good series and Randy is GREAT!
I love how they're running a hot lap and having casual conversation! This show needs to air more often..
looks like someone bought a new camera with that bfg money :D colours are slightly over saturated though, to a point where I tjought the entire episode was greenscreened
Brought to you by BF Goodrich.
I love motor trend and this channel. Such a great group of skilled and charismatic
People!!
I love Randy, its his turn to drive the street tyre car, I can see him saying to himself "ok young man, let me show you how its really done!" SLYDWAYZ!!
The most impressive thing is that Randy still fits in his 20 plus year old race suit. Good for him.
+Randy Pobst Whatever they pay you Randy it's not enough! MT is my favorite go to car channel, all the hosts are terrific but Randy is the best.
How about an episode on brakes, solid rotors vs. slotted vs. cross drilled, single piston calipers vs. 2-5 pistons, street brake pads vs. sport & track pad compounds?
Randy's race suit is one of the coolest suits I've ever seen. I want one
Great commercial!! True that tires make all the difference. On my '13 GT going from the stock 235 square stance PZero Nero all seasons to 255 front and 285 rear Nitto Invos was like night and day. So even going from street tire to street tire can make a huge difference. In my case the leap was from all season to ultra high performance summer tires. Now the car can perform on the street like it should.
So this is basically a BF Goodrich advert then!
I wish this series didn't stop.
Amazing scenery and it's always nice to see Randy.
I love these motor trend. It's got a good balance of information, entertainment, and content. I think you guys really did a good job by not flooding too much info to the viewers, keeping it entertaining so the noobs will keep watchcing, and having enough interesting content to where guys like me don't exactly learn anything new...BUT...it's interesting to just watch while I do other things or I'm not looking to focus too much attention on what's going on. So like my first two statements said before I elaborated. GREAT VIDEOS! Keep up the good work.
Was expecting better from this "show", rather than a non-informative infomercial. Is this how MOTD works?
It is now. First Roadkill, now Racing line. Corporate greed wins again.
+Sideslip well its sad to see that they want more money for wages, producers, script writers, equipment, etc... How much do we pay to watch? Oh right.... Nothing. No commercials AND we get to choose if we want to see it or not. Plus look at the amount of likes...
This is how all "shows" should be both FUN and informative. No one wants to see the same old boring stuff
How much we pay to watch has nothing to do with it. If you don't get that this whole thing was an infomercial, and if you actually think you learnt something from it, you are a fool and definitely not a car enthusiast.
This was not a show, if you go and watch old The racing Line episodes, you'll see it was a far more informative and fun show, whilst still using SUBTLE advertising.
+Sideslip Also there wasn't anything in the video that I didn't know already.
Love this Mustang commercial!
This is the most entertaining tire ad I've ever seen. :)
I like the collaboration between the two racers. More plz
NICE! cant wait to get a set of these track tires for my Prius.
Never seen that track so dang green
My favorite tires right now are the Michelin Pilot Super Sport because they combine different rubber types to get you a sticky tire that lasts a long time.
Sticky tires are better but they wear out faster. With the super sports they used soft sticky rubber for the 1/3 of the tread nearest the outside of the tire and put no grooves there, so when you are cornering hard you are contacting mainly sticky rubber.
For the inside 2/3 of the tire they used a harder rubber which is the part of the tire that you will be on more when you are driving straight. This way your tires don't wear out as fast when you are just commuting. They are kind of expensive but figure in that you will get more life out of them and better performance.
Obviously if you drag race or something you would want the entire tire to be sticky and soft, but these SS ones are awesome for a street car that is sporty.
Would love to see a video on adjustment of a vehicles angles etc. Along with how they affect the handle and improve track time.
Classy photography. It's so clean that everything looks like it was shot on greenscreen.
Randy Pobst is my spirit animal
Finally a new episode of The Racing Line
But shotguns are a pretty broad range of use tool. They can be used to
Open beer cans
Breach doors
start camp fires
start forrest fires
put out candles
shoot birds
shoot squirrels
protect squirrels from birds
drain above ground pools
Thank God Randy is back (I know he has been here but i mean in his own show)
Basic but good. I think a good end to the piece would have been to discuss the additional wear and tear on hubs, wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints, suspension mounts and bushings, etc. that comes from increasing the chassis load with a grippier tire. In the same way that track-grade tires function on another level compared to street-grade tires, track-grade chassis components cope with the loads that track tires can generate in a way that street-grade chassis components cannot.
I only watch Motor Trend for Pobst these days..
Great video!
wow the grass on the field is amazing😁😁
The setting in this video is unnecessarily pleasing
welcome to the BFGoodrich show, brought to you by Ford.
make sure y'all like this video so they can keep Randy show
Ford Mustang! go baby, go!
Gay
+John AK72 judging from your profile pic your definitely a mustang driver 😂😂😂
Well, I'm not homo and still love to drive Mustang. what's wrong with you?
Keyboard warrior, hallowed be thy name.
This video is one big Add
I really hope Randy likes beers. I wanna sit down and enjoy a cold brew with that guy, he's so damn cool.
im a simple man, I see Randy Pobst, I press like :D
This was so campy, I love it! You guys can't possibly be taking this too seriously! Randy seems made for this stuff too!
Despite the commercially content, that track is so beautiful that I thought it was CGI at first.
Sport Comp2 is my summer tire of choice on my Infiniti. Great grip, ride, & price
Randy is putting off a Bill Nye vibe in this video. I think he'd legitimately be a good children's show presenter.
i always like the presentation of motortrend. Great videography
+Motor Trend Channel Thanks for the video after a while! Thanks once again! It was an awesome episode and I enjoyed it 100%! Randy is awesome!
I have the BFG sport comp 2s on my trans am feels and handles great!!
Wow, thanks for the BF Goodrich commercial!
"You have to treat the tires with respect" immediately does a power side
I love the humor of randy. Gets me every time
The comp 2 is a good street tire as well. Nice.
Mr Pobst , have you ever thought that your web series could use a longer time for your videos or possibly more of those stories of track days I like the end credit stories a lot it shows you're not kidding bout the time behind the wheel . love the show !
The first 30 seconds were all I need to click the like button. 😂
Love the quality (picture) of this video!
make sure y'all like this video keep Randy show
I would enjoy this more if you werent sponsored by any particular tire brand. Removes the bias that could exist.
...sponsorship is one of the biggest ways to fund racing and racing journalism. no sponsorship = no racing journalism, or racing unless you're super rich. the fact that it's sponsored doesn't matter to me. i take the sales pitch with a grain of salt and watch the video. 6 seconds faster than a street tire, pretty insane.
+MV Agusta I'd still prefer to see several different tires by different manufacturers.
He was sponsored by Cadillac too. Does that make it biased too? No. Tyres are tyres. He explained their function and the difference between street and track tyres. Brand doesn't affect the info given (in this situation)
Gotta love Randy!
This was the lognest BFGoodrich advertisement I've ever seen...
Randy is impossible to not love
already knew the difference but this vid was still great
I cant belive that diference is so huge!
I'd estimate a top shelf "street" tire to cut the difference in half from this videos example (maybe 3 seconds off the pace of the R1S instead of nearly 6).
It would not, the BFGoodriches are 100 treadwear less than the PSS and it'd still put up a good fight with the Cup 2s.
what is that strange symbol you're using as your profile picture?...do I know you?
=D
Equals D?...what equals D?
more lessons from randy please. these are great
I really hope Pobst had fun making these.
So track tires provide more grip than street tires... outstanding research!!!
It's bad enough with the MotorTrend on demand. At least let the free content be ad-free...
Hey guys the show has a new sponsor, you catch that cause they really want you to know. seriously they might even dedicate an episode bad episode to showing you they have a new sponsor.
Am i the only one admiring the incredibly clean background
The music is perfect.
You're getting better Randy. I like it. I like it alot
1:05 The Kyle Tucker wolf whistle was creepy
5:04 " Were going forward." lol very descriptive.
Soft compound street tires to do 90% of the tuning, competition tires from there on out. A lot of people confuse the grip of a competition tire for a well tuned car
Message to the director:
Did you use an Arri or Red Epic to shoot this. Looks amazing. I sent it to all of my filmmaker friends here.
Randy is the man!
Man u realy good in communication and entertaining .
Keep the good work !
By the way u should have talk about tire management in race .
Like a front traction cars in a heavy break track will over heat the front tire realy fast if ur not carefull etc .
Great vid as always. Randy, they need to get you a Focus RS to test out. Demand it, and don't hide it behind the pay wall, thanks.
Those fields sure are lush
I could hardly pay attention to the tires because the scenery was so good.
Randy is just great!
