    I have been listening to Dave Ramsey for a while and he really annoys me especially when he advises a medical professional such as Physicians and Pharmacists to pick up an extra shifts in the ER as though ER is a fast food restaurant where one can go and pick up shifts just like that. Dave, please educate yourself before you tell people about ER for ER itself is a specialty and people need to go through the training before they work in the ER. There are levels in the ER as far as Trauma levels are concern and one needs to have the proper and adequate training before they take care of critical patients.

    Reigning in and going "Ok, the money isn't coming in anymore, I graduated and they expect me to pay it back now."
    That's where this caller is stumped. Sure, he has income now. But he's used to a certain level of living now, and brown bag lunch doesn't appeal. And neither does having a great big income that goes to debt for a few years. He wants so badly to take that big income and go buy a new car, plan vacations, buy the dream house, start building a rainy day fund- but all that stuff has to wait.

      I have to disagree. I am paying off $340,000 in student loans from med school. That is mostly tuition, plus books, exam and license fees, and money spent to apply and interview to get into residency training... plus accumulated interest over years of residency training. I lived on $1600 a mo in Miami (high cost of living) - I often went hungry or would take crackers and milk from the hospital. I got clothes on sale at Walmart. That's not true of the students in the university town I am most familiar with. They live high on the hog. There is a huge thriving industry built entirely around their entertainment, expensive living, expensive restaurants and all sorts of venues to spend money. I I'm old enough to remember being that broke student and also talking to people in the generation ahead of me who were even super broke students. Very different nowadays.
    I am curious to know, how much of people's student loan debt has gone to paying for a lifestyle more than students can actually afford, versus paying for actual school costs?

    • @toddaustin2198
      @toddaustin2198 4 года назад +1

      Agreed. Even in the 90s when I was in College, I knew fellow students doing the following foolish things with their student loans:
      - buying new cars,
      - buying $12K car stereo systems for their new cars,
      - paying for exotic vacations
      - buying a new wardrobe
      - taking their dates to fancy $100 per plate restaurants.

      Trust me, a lot of students are living on debts to fuel their lifestyles. I personally saw it myself, When I was in college 12 years ago. One cute Latina biology classmate bought a brand new Nissan Maxima on debt, like she max out her credit card. She was happy that she said I owned a new car, but I looked at her with what's wrong with you look and walk away.
      Dont feel pity for them. Just be grateful you're not in their shoes.

      It's easy, lack of planning, no focus, no direction, no guidance. Most never consider a community or junior college so they already start out paying double for general education level credits. Secondly, most are broke, unemployed or underemployed while in school and take the loan money to supplement their lower incomes. Also, the requirements to qualify for the loan are non existent, you just have to be a registered student and show up at least the first month. Finally, most are not finishing in the traditional 4 years. All these things create a sociological and financial disaster. Add a masters degree to that, deferments, forbearece and it's just decadent interest accumulation from their.

I did chemistry, started at $32k (seriously) and made my way up to $90k in less than 3 years. He’ll start low but you can advance very quickly if you don’t get too comfortable and always look for better opportunities.

Lots of families are like that and once they are out of school, they start buying rental properties and having kids and living the life they think they deserve for (e.g. one big happy RUclips channel). 1. Listeners/commenters in the RUclips section are some of the most judgemental people. These people are trying to get out of debt regardless of their past mistakes. Calling them dumb or stupid is not helpful. The fact that people are judging them from a 5-10 min clip is absolutely ludicrous.

I then worked, and also had friends from college all work for various engineering companies. Anything from small business to Lockheed Martin. The reality is this: companies understand that if they tell a 22 year old fresh graduate "I'll pay you 60k a year" that we will say "YES!" with everything we've got. I didn't know a single guy who's first engineering job was getting over 70k in the Colorado area.
