I’ve honestly found that when I have a loose grip on the bat, it’s much easier to make contact. Also according to the law of inertia and momentum, you’ll actually hit harder with a loose grip rather than choking the bat, but that’s mostly my opinion. If you like to choke up, and it’s easier for you, them go ahead. But what all hitters must do while their on deck, is match their timing with the pitcher, timing is the most important part of hitting. Then when you step up to the plate, you should line up tp your bat and make sure you can reach just beyond both sides (mostly the outside) of the plate. In my opinion, that’s the best way of preparing for hitting, infact using this method has made me always swing at the first pitch, even if it’s a little outside or inside.
Coach Justin I have been watching your videos for quite the time now and yesterday for my first game of a double header, I had a grand slam, then a two run home run, then a solo home. I’m only twelve and playing on twelveu Bartlett silverhawks in Illinois
Swing heavy on deck...theory is it speeds your bat swing... think lifting, grab a 10lb medicine ball then switch to a 5lb ball...mid workout...however if you overwork the muscle group then you don't have any gains
So I play a sport that's called Beep Baseball for the blind and visually impaired people it is a modified game of baseball. I am one of two female starters on my team which is rare and everyone is shocked when they see me play better then the men. I choke up on my bat when it is my last bat before I strike out. Beep baseball has 4 strikes and the normal 3 outs. If anyone is interested in learning about Beep baseball or seeing a game look up Beep baseball on youtube.
Okay, so I used to play baseball and I was pretty good at it (not trynna be cocky). My parents got a divorce and so I just wanted to sit in my room and not play baseball. Baseball is my passion now and I’m dedicated to making a triple a team or triple a major team again, so do you have any tips for me?
"Choke up!" tends to be the fix-all solution that bad coaches give to youth players who are not seeing the ball well. Rather than fixing their swing and/or timing, they tell the kid to choke up. Now the bat is shorter, feels different and throws off the entire swing. I fail to see any upside. If you bought a bat that fits you (length and weight), then why would you not want as much reach as possible? A kid is much more likely to strike out by missing a pitch on the outside corner than he is by being jammed on the inside. I like your advice to move closer to the plate when you're down in the count. The issue is that many youth players are still afraid of the ball and tend to back out of the box even on a strike on the inside corner. Moving them closer to the plate increases that fear and may actually get them hit by the pitch, since most pitchers in youth leagues still struggle with control. I'd much rather have the batter use the bat to reach the ball than choke up and crowd the plate and risk getting hit (or freaking out).
To me as a high schooler choking up on my bat is really good , I mostly hit normally but when I choke up I feel my swing is balanced and the bat is obviously lighter and my bat speed is faster
"Don't get to 2 strikes" - can't agree more. I hate when kids are coached to look at a strike so they get a meatball and don't even bother to swing. I get that there are situations where this is smart baseball but I'd generally rather see kids go get that pitch.

Yes.
Nice vid coach! How do you feel about weights on bats. I think they decrease bat speed what’s your opinion?
Do u mean end loaded bats or using them while on deck?
Weights on deck circle and 2 bats
