When I played baseball in my teens, I was a huge fan of Barry Bonds and I noticed him choking up and it took some time to find out why because there was no internet yet but I started doing it and I saw a dramatic improvement. I was hitting line drives more. Basically when I hit the ball it was no longer luck of the draw. I had command of my swings and also where and what trajectory I wanted it to go. Definitely recommended.

Hello Jermaine. This is great advice. Luc has been in a few wood bat tournaments lately so he has been chocking up. It’s made a big difference. More line drives and hard hit balls. I’m going to show him this video.
    Thanks.

Hey Jermaine, Bigger is better, if you have to choke up to make it work, absolutely go for it. Controlling the barrel / head is what’s key. Split grip works too. Why is bigger better... I use the analogy, if you had two sledge hammers, one weighed 10 lbs and the other 5 lbs and they were both swung at 65 mph at a wall, which one would do more damage? Well logically and correctly you would assume the larger size would do the more damage. Much like your changing from a 33-31 bat model to 35-35. The faster the head speed and better leverage the bigger the bang! Moving your top hand closer to the head / barrel gives you better accuracy. When coaches say don’t swing so hard, just put the ball in play, that is not right. Don’t sacrifice bat speed for accuracy. Just choke up. Bat speed is a tool, don’t give it away! Practice and get more reps. Build up the hands and forearms. That’s were the money is!

There must be something to choking up on the bat because no matter how strong Bonds got, he never decided he didn't need to choke up. I'm going to give it a try this weekend at the batting cages then implement it in my next game.

Its about balancing out swing weight. Will increase swing speed to the ball

Hi Jermaine. Your instruction is amazing I play in the over 50 league in Colorado Springs. I started choking up about an inch about a year ago. I sacrifice no power and have better control and bat speed. I use a 33 inch, 30 ounce Old Hickory NA28. I recommend choking up to anyone.

Amazing! Thank you Randy. I appreciate you. And Colorado Springs is looking like 1 of the destinations my gf and I might move to this fall. How is out there, honestly?

Hi Jermaine. I love it here. I have lived here my entire life. I am also a landscape photographer, so Colorado and the surrounding areas are pretty amazing. You should do your research first. The cost of living has gone up. Denver is only about 70 miles away, so you can get to the Rockies games. The weather here is great, in my opinion. The snow isn't that bad. Let me know if you decide to come out and we can talk. Have a great day!

Thank you Randy! I might be visiting soon. A good friend of mine lives there... and he also owns a real estate company. He wants me to join and do videos like I'm doing on this channel for the company. Thinking about it. But will do for sure....thank you

Personally i choke up on the bat no matter what the count is, I definitely have more bat control and it helped me prevent rollovers and weak fly balls

My son started choking up when he started using a -3 bbcor bat, told him if the HR King and Hits King do it, don't you think you should give it a try? Last 6 games, 5 for 10, 5 walks 2 doubles and no K's.

@@stevensmith8977 he played t-ball for 1 year when he was 5. It's such a sedentary sport for young kids, not a lot of action going on and he was just running around. After that he played soccer for 5 years (5-9), that was great for little kids, running the whole game and having fun. Tried football for 1 year (8) and he didn't care for it. Got back into baseball at 9 and have been at it ever since, now he's 14 and starting high school. My personal opinion is that 9 or 10 is a pretty good age to really start getting into baseball. Like I said earlier, baseball is a sedentary sport and kids get bored easily just standing around in the outfield. This is not true for every kid, just the majority of them. There is that one kid who is into it at an earlier age, you just need to let him try and see how it goes.
