    Whenever I watch a game from a different era like the 80's, the early 90's, u see a significant difference in the game, the hitters, their approach at the plate. Significantly more balls in play, and hitting in all directions back then vs now. More action on the bases, it was a more exciting brand of ball personally.

Was ranked 18th in the nation toughest to strike out in all of D1 baseball in the nation. I got to play 4 more years at the semi pro baseball where Batted low 400 each season.. then I quit baseball because I got a real job … 😢… I can’t stand the new technic and launch angle it is ruining the game of Baseball. There’s a big potential for a media niche you could corner with low overhead production costs with high ROI. That mid 90s - mid 2000’s nostalgia. Yourself, combined with any star from that era has the potential for high views per mile. Merch relating to that era, Jomboy style breakdowns of big moments from that era, and basically an entire media/merch apparatus relating to it. Make the fans feel involved (even though they might not be).

    Great video! I think the real gem is in what Barry said about a perfect practice swing v reality in game. I've yet to hear anyone verbalize that and consequently it's been THE arguement between the old and new hitting style supporters. Many short to ball haters argue that while the old time elite hitters think they are hitting down and staying short, they are really launching. And yes, video largely proves that true. What Barry said there was that elite hitters naturally launch. That it's easy to launch. So the swing thought of hitting down and the practice of hitting down, will counteract that natural game instinct to launch and therefore result in a more consistent swing rather than an uber launch swing. A swing that is on plane longer, which no one can argue results in more and better contact. I've found that slumps follow streaks because a player keeps doing more and more of what made them successful during that streak, resulting in flaws that are produced from doing too much of a good thing.

      I feel worst for Barry. He only used 2-4 years of his entire career. And get this. Steroids weren’t even banned from the game and everyone else was using them too. No one talks about this. Only because Bonds did so well, it was all cheating. No, Bonds only started using because everybody else was. Dude had 40 hr and 40 stolen bases in 98 and no one cared. Barry definitely got screwed way harder then everyone else. And Dusty Baker took his only WS ring away from him on top of it all. The only reason people say Bonds cheated was because the FBI conducted an illegal investigation that was actually thrown out by a judge. But before it was thrown out they said Bonds lied(with no proof). That’s why Bonds was lynched by baseball. MLB never investigated Bonds. Especially because steroids weren’t illegal in MLB until later 2000’s after FBI went on a morality parade with millions of tax dollars they could have used to feed homeless people or who even knows. Now they just fixed the balls to make the game more exciting. The whole system is a joke and Bonds and other steroid era players got the shit end of the stick. They have made roids banned forever ago and not let players use them and even promote the use through glorifying Conseco and Big Mac during 98. Then when a black player breaks records the baseball racists/purest hate it. Hank used meth. They hated when he broke the record too. Hank certainly wasn’t clean when playing ball. He used greenies his entire career. That’s a lot worse then Bonds using a few years of his career imo and it’s even close.

    Absolutely agree, the greater hitters of this decade, Mike Trout and Mookie Betts, Yelich, Miguel Cabrera, Stanton, all of them keep the top hands up, go down to the ball, keep their shoulder levels, they set the angle with the hips (which makes them tilt the torso and reach for lower pitches) instead of droping the shoulder.

  • @Hardballleather
    @Hardballleather 5 лет назад +4

    Launch angle is all about where you make contact with the ball. Al you had great launch angle in your career because you hit the middle to bottom half of the ball and created backspin for the ball to climb.

    Hi Alex! Hi Barry! I just subscribed. I know "zero" about baseball. With this you tube detail instructional video. I will, I can, I am learning :). May I ask if you can show motion with slight glow on the bat so I can easily follow what you do at the same time. I am shorter than yourself. Where how what do my arms end up. During a swing.

    Almost similar to a golf swing. You don't hit good golf shots hanging back on your back leg. You have to transition to your front leg while keeping head and hands back until you start unwinding.

    I was in disbelief I been reconstructing my swing multiple times and I finally understood what this method is after watching a Kevin Seitzer video I have taught myself the launch angle swing and been struggling hitting the ball now after I learned this it took maybe 20 swings and I got the timing down and now feel comfortable hitting the high inside pitch

    Huge thanks to A-Rod and Barry for setting this up. I don't think people realize how lucky we are to have people sharing these tips. Alex, players like you seem to talk about how the "level or down swing" helps hit the higher fastball with velo. I'd love to hear the opinion of both you and Barry on how this "level swing" translates to the pitches low in the zone. Do you still swing down on a low pitch? Thanks

    Barry is the greatest of all time, I don’t care at all that he took roids, in that era that was the norm not the exception. His eye was still unbelievable regardless of roids and before roids he won multiple mvps and was clearly the best or one or the top 3 players in baseball every year. Truly the most unbelievably great hitter I’ve ever seen

    Man this is crazy!! I’ve been coaching this for years!! Barry Bonds was my dude. Even changed my swing to hit like him and taught myself to bat left because of him (and to prove to my brother I could). I’ve been sharing this same type of education with my players along with other tools on my RUclips channel MrCoachDJ. It’s crazy to hear him say this because I just emulated his swing as a kid.

    Alex here is my problem with these videos, I understand what your trying to say and a lot of makes sense however, when you watch your swing from your playing days in slow motion, you don’t see this down to the ball action, you see much more of a turn of the barrel behind you so the bat can get on plane early and impact the ball squarely.

    • @mlb_zity1276
      @mlb_zity1276 5 лет назад +3

      I totally agree with you on getting on plane early and staying on plane as long as possible. And I don’t see neither Bonds or Alex hitting down in the ball in their swing videos !!!. This is totally the opposite of what Tim Williams says in his book The (science of hitting) Barrel below the hands when one gets in contact with the ball.
      There’s more to this and I’ll love to hear what both of them have to say and other people hear about what I said.
      Ans Bonds is my all time Favorite player ever I agree with his swing ,but I would need more probe to support what he thinks he was doing with swing mechanic when he was playing .

    • @ryn9892
      @ryn9892 4 года назад

      TheSpeedingLazer true bc when they swing down to the ball they have a natural lift that will automatically give them that lift so technically if they’re thinking down through the ball it will work every time bc they will still have the natural lift through the ball instead of having to try to create that lift and being super long and getting around the baseball instead of through it
