Brought back memories of when as a little kid, we would take the "Flyer" from Sydney to Newcastle to visit my grandparents. Generally, a 46 class (electric) would haul it to Gosford, and I would get out on the platform, and run up to the front of the train to see the engines changed over - most of the time it was a 38 class taking the final stage to Newcastle. Not quite the same romance about the journey now. Thanks for posting.
You should note the names of the stations the train stops at when they stop. It would give a better perspective to those of us unfamiliar with them. :-)
Wasn’t fast enough so I played it at 2x! It’s must be what high speed rail might feel like except the many sharp twists and turns would have derailed us. Thanks for a fun ride. Might actually take this trip if I ever visit my home country again. From California.
Alistair, I pinched a minute and a quarter from the end to lament the removal of the last few stations at our Facebook Page here: facebook.com/SaveNewcastle/videos/450423525468266/
If you average say 80 kms per hour not including stops and the distance is 118 kms from central to Newcastle that would be 1.475 hours people, I think this person should ride bullet train . 😂😂😂😂

7:50 - Blink and you'll literally miss that station.
+Brendan Richards Wondabyne Station is a request stop so if there is someone waiting/signalling the driver then the train stop at that station.
wondabyne
From 4:56 to 5:07, the track is completely straight for quite some distance and two stations (pennant hills and thornleigh)
I noticed you edited a little bit out of it between Cowan & the hawksberry river train station
Sadly the last three stops are now gone due Novocastrians being "Gladys'ed"
Wow, This "Bullet train'" ends in front of a Road at New Castle!
Swamynathan Iyer lol he time lapse and edited it it’s a Waratah the yellow and silver train
It’s also speeding if this was real he would lose his job and go to jail.
I don't think Waratahs ever operated all the way to Newcastle (at least not in regular service).
Lmao it’s not a Waratah. It’s either a V set or a H set.
"in under 20 minutes"
lmao don't we all wish
I did see a quick part cut out shortly before Brooklyn
Watch in 2x for the Shinkansen experience
If you can tag each stop in the video, that would be great. I cannot see the name of the station
I was shocked to hear that trains to Newcastle is no more and I cannot understand it.
it's because the government want to rip up the perfectly good tracks and build a light rail into Newcastle CBD.
Great video alistair.have liked and susbcribed :)
Cough cough * Intense fast forwarding *
Question Alistair Harding,
Would this video be from nadnerb2k's video channel?
If it's there then he or she stole it from me. I was driving the train and it's my camera.
The time record Central to Newcastle is still hel by a C38 steam loco pulling the Newcastle Flyer in a shade under two hours.
+Lindsay Little Now, it takes about 45 minutes to go from Cardiff to Newcastle.
Lindsay Little he's not there's a Cardiff in sydbey
This is excellent Al, how fast you are going!!!!!!!
The speed shows at the bottom left of the image.
did you do this yourself Alistair?
While I am not certain if it is, I don't believe it is, as the same video was posted BEFORE this video was uploaded.
Doubt it, lol. See my reply to your other comment.
where the music?
+joshula miller There is no music in this video.
Could you do a real time video if possible?
You sure you want to spend two and half hours watching a video of a typically slow Australian train service?
+Sylvia Else Yes would be great to see as it would bring back good memories for me .
+john spiers consider it done
Thank you
i have just recorded it and im going to upload it but it migt take a while
Can't believe they didn't raise or sink the line right into Newcastle. Horribly short sighted
You should have music to do that
