Somehow Peter uses weird or rare instruments to create another dimension where these songs sound native and absolutely authentic. This is a divine skill!
Tolkien would have loved this rendition. It's reminiscent of gregorian chant, which is what he himself imagined it to be like, but it has this alien, otherworldly quality as well..
The audio bleeding actually adds to the experience in my opinion. Rather that soinding mushy it sounds weirdly majestic; I feel it fits the song and the character.
I know how hauntingly beautiful this portrayal is because when I started listening to it, my wife came from the other side of the room to ask me what I was listening to .... I explained it to her with a tears in my eyes and she understood. May we all find Valimar in the end. Love to all!
Peter - you are magical. I was given a terrible diagnosis this year and it has been a struggle some days just to stay afloat. Your music soothes me so beautifully and makes me feel connected to something greater than this shell. Thank you.
@@moonbubbles3046 may you find tranquility and peace wherever your spirit dwells. When I listen to Peter Pringle's ancient reconstructions in long dead languages, it does give me a sobering sense of the passage of ages. I pray you get a reprieve from you diagnosis, but ultimately all any of us can hope for is to live a good life.
Peter, you are someone that-I would say-is extraordinary. Being someone to be able to revive these old songs that are in completely different languages with perfect pronunciation...just amazing. Keep up the marvelous work, man! May you be blessed by God!
@@thelonejourney I've...never thought about that. But what you say is true. Regardless, this song gives me a reassurance that the "paradise" you speak of will return one day. And we'll all be free people of the government. Thank you!
Peter, truly, never stop singing. I’ve never heard a voice with such passion behind it, or seen an artist as willing to lend his talent to so many genres.
Welcome back, oh Master of vocal enchantment, you and your art have been sorely missed. This rendition of Galadriel's lament is stunning on multiple levels, I find. The crystal organ lends a heavy 'voidedness' to the verses,- I think, I have never heard anything so truly darkelvish ever in Tolkien's adapations. I cannot even process it,- let alone the fact that hearing you sing it, makes me want to double check whether I really hear Quenya or not rather Sumerian or Old-Egyptian. A great piece, Peter. Thankyou.
I always preferred Sindarin. Even if it's Quenya, it's still just as beautiful lol. This crystal organ sounds ethereal and divine as well as the octaver effect on your vocals. In tandem, you two sound like beings from another world. Wonderful!
The number of historical instruments you play is astounding. I wonder if you recorded vocals separately and then overlay did that have the same effect? I read here you aren’t happy with it. No one else does what you do. Your music is always a gift.
Epic worthy and Tolkien worthy. The chosen instrument, your voice, and musical composition of Tolkien's song take the spirit of the lament to another level of interpretation. The lament as you have created it, hearkens back to the beginnings of Tolkien's universe with harmony overwhelming the void, much like other ancient stories of light overwhelming the darkness. Pythagoras' harmony of the spheres also comes to mind since Tolkien was well versed in classcial literature. A side note: Hildegard von Bingen, a Medieval mystic, believed that evil was devoid of music. In her musical passion play, the devil shouts his part. When reading Galadriel's Lament, these other associations do not come to mind. By adding music to Tolkien's verses, a universe is revealed and expanded. Thank you for sharing your visions and artistic talents. They bring joy and contemplation.
I am delighted that you re-posted this wonderfully inspired interpretation of Tolkien's poem. This version is certainly more polished and I remember the original performance, it had an edge to it, perhaps greater pathos and intensity due its imperfection (if that's what you wish to call it) it had great urgency and depth. Both recordings are astoundingly beautiful...
I'm so glad this is back up!! oh, how I missed it, and somehow still had it memorized from all my listening of it two years ago. such a stunning performance I will never forget 🙏
thank you sincerely for restoring this masterpiece of your singing expressing all the gamut of human emotions about being depart. Blessed be by the Gods
This is wonderful. I think the "mushy" sound you pointed out heightens the mystical feel to the song, which is very fitting for Galadriel. You are an inspiration to me, thank you for all that you share with us.
I'm so glad this video is back! I'd been looking for this version for months wondering what had happened to it! Love your performances, and I'm glad the dispute was resolved.
I think the ability to chew gum and walk is a fine human characteristic, so speaking Quenya while playing an obscure instrument is beyond anything I could hope to do, however... I know this lament to be yearning, sorrow, and regret. An acceptance of the pay-off after years of choices, good and bad. This sentiment is no where evidence in your composition, eerie, cold, yet beautiful but lacking the emotion of its namesake. That is not lost on me, sir, as I enjoy the fruits of your life-long labor, nearly every other contribution you have offered, and will not let one apple, perceived by me to be bad, upset my cart! Namarië
Peter, YOU ARE SO GOOD! you're able to play every kind of strange or ancient instrument and you're so good at singing in every kind of ancient or strange language! Thank you so much for your wonderful artistic work!!!
Even if you aren't happy with it, I am happy to have this video back. I used to play it on occasion to put me into a "Middle Earth" mindset and was bummed when I couldn't locate it on RUclips anymore. Appreciate everything you do!

Peter, will your album Dancing Alone ever come back to streaming services? If not to stream, at least so I can buy it? It got me through a year, but it’s been removed everywhere & I’d love to purchase a copy, lest I never get to hear it again. Much love!
How dare those buffoons strike your original upload. They're probably just mad that nobody is buying into their marvelized tv show and lashed out at you. Oh well good excuse for me to listen to it again, all the best Peter
After listening to this rendering I wanted Tolkien's world to be real more than ever before. I still think we should discard alphabets for the Tengwar. Its systematic calligraphy linking shapes to phonemes would, through the script's visual connection to the sounds of speech, refine understanding, make reading more enjoyable, and kick literacy up to a higher level, once learned and universally applied. Legendarium aside, I think the Tengwar is Tolkien's greatest contribution to world culture. Or it should be.
Nice one Peter. In a language which both does, and does not, exist... I reckon you're an elf yourself; a musical one. I've a lady friend who might like to try singing this.

Because of the parallel fifths!

Such a cool instrument I see for a first time! Combining both the singer's voice and him "playing" it, in a vibrating melody that causes me to shiver!
