Hand rakes or cultivators are a great tool for these oyster beds. But I was told… if you get a Hoe or two… you increase your chances of getting crabs 🦀
My dad's method for catching crabs when I was a kid was to convince me that catching crabs is the coolest thing ever. Wind situation has been bad but looks like we get a break on Saturday.
Thank you for your "How-To's" videos. Thonny, would you consider discussing the Saltwater Fish de-hooker tool(s) you use... ie the model/make de-hooker you use for removing the jig from the caught Pompano, and say what different size model/make de-hooker you use to safely remove the hook/jig from larger saltwater fish caught ie Saltwater Trout, Spanish Mackerel, etc.? Wishing you and your loved ones a Very Merry Christmas 2023!
The area North of the Bay Pines bridge and south of the bike trail is good for sheepshead, trout and reds right now. Some flounder too near the bridge, A shallow draft John boat or a kayak is the best way to fish there and watch out for the shallow oyster beds. Learn the area first before you get stuck there by the tide or scrape your boat on the oyster beds. We used to catch tons of blue crabs there in the 70s and 80s. Not sure how many are left.
Scrape barnacles off pilings and seawalls at low tide. Fill a bucket. It's the easiest and cheapest bait to obtain. Fish near pilings. Try different depths to locate the sheepshead. Good luck.

Nice video...!!! That area looks like Coffee Pot Bayou...
The first area was Weedon island
The area where he actually fished was coffee pot
Great place. I launched my Kayak there last month. Trout, snook, and sheepshead all day.
Have you ever tried fishing for sheepshead at the bridge and old train trestle at Bay pines. lots of oyster bars around that area.

@PassivePortfolios Fished around the area a lot in the early 70s..got married and moved to Jacksonville in 78
Not yet! I’ll have to check that out
Crazy how fishing seemed to slow down in tampa area and I go to my boss house in Englewood it is epic all day
Thank you Thonny for grat information!
Any time 👊
Well done Thonny.
Thank you! 👊
Better luck next time I remember having days like that fishing in South Carolina
I was just in Beaufort! The redfish were chewing
Are you using owner ssw strait eye inline hooks or angled eye
Typically I use In-line!
Hey, do you ever use oysters? It will change everything if you do.
I haven’t yet! I tried once but it kept falling off the hook!
Gotta get some magic thread or the little mesh pouches.
Thank You Thonny
Any time 👊
What's the difference between mud crabs and fiddler crabs?
@2:15 I don’t know the name, but they worked fine. Since they’re small, I typically put multiple on a hook. Just one didn’t work to well for me either
They worked for me, caught a few sheepshead at Fort Desoto with them
Good to know! Thanks 👊
Those flat crabs are Green Porcelain Crabs (P. armatus)
How do you tell these crabs from a small stone crab?
Stone crab has stripes on the claws
@@jayb.844 thanks
Hate to broadcast a not so secret, but have you ever tried using barnacles.

@@PassivePortfolios been doing it for 35 years👍👍
Haven’t tried using barnacles yet! I’ll have to give it a shot
@@Thonny I promise, it’s the cheat code for sheepshead
where is this
First area was weedon island, I’m not sure where the second area was then the last area was coffee pot
Thonnie is the red raccoon still out there?
Oh yeah! 😂😂
@@Thonny 😂
One time my guy reached into my bait bucket and grabbed a finger mullet out of there and then walked away like a boss 😂
flat porcelain crab
Appreciate it! 👊
