@@communistpropagandist4608 mostly high import taxes, video games are expensive in brazil and Sega got around this by building locally, it is so popular there that it remains the best selling console and it still sells to this day. Here in America it directly competed against the NES and Nintendo's third party policing which made third parties sign an exclusivity contract with Nintendo if they wanted to make games for their console, so Sega was fucked. This was only applied in America and Japan so that's why the Master System didn't flunk in Europe as much as it did in America and Japan

The Master System was pretty big in Europe too. Maybe bigger than the NES, even. I'm french and I grew up with awesome games like Zillion, Wonder Boy 2 & 3, Phantasy Star, Spellcaster, Rastan, Psycho Fox, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Shinobi, Rampage, Enduro Racer, Golvellius, Action Fighter, Alex Kidd, Fantasy Zone, R-Type, Double Dragon, Kenseiden, Power Strike, Thunder Blade, Space Harrier, Hang On, Kung Fu Kid, Black Belt, Choplifter, Outrun, After Burner, Galaxy Force, Vigilante... ...There were other good games but I jumped to the Genesis/Megadrive when it was released. The system is really as good as the NES, but I understand Jared's low ranking because he didn't grow up with it. The Game Gear was even better by the way, because you could play all Master System games on it thanks to an adapter, something the Game Boy could never do.

I had a GameGear growing up before getting a Game Boy Color.
Easily the most memorable thing about it was how much it just straight up went through a jumbo pack of batteries like a tube of Pringles.
Same with the atari Lynx tbh. That backlight really shredded through the cells. I found myself playing it with the adapter most of the time because it was expensive to play portably... You'd end up saving those batteries for special occasions... Thank god I ended up getting a gameboy for long trips.
I just played it plugged into the wall. And the TV tuner was next level.
schrecknet Same, I used to sit next to the plug socket with the power adapter playing Sonic Triple Trouble and X-Men for hours.
Never had a game gear, but I did have a Nomad. It took six batteries at a time, and lasted a few hours with them. Like, what was the point, lol.
Y'all are tripping. I almost never used batteries because it had a jack to plug it into the wall, so I'd carry it wherever in my house to get away, batteries just for transferring. Honestly, I didn't even want to risk blowing through 6 batteries so fast, but the Gameboy was almost as bad and almost as big, I'd say the upgrade in graphics, color and amazing light was well worth 2 more batteries. In the end I got rechargeable ones so it worked out no big deal.
I just wish I had more games after Sonic Chaos, because Sonic 2, MLB, and that Looney Tunes games were impossible. It was given to me rather late, but apparently there were a bunch like Streets of Rage, Mickey Mouse, Road Rash, Mortal Kombat, Fantasy Star and Gun Heroes.
The Vita was amazing for RPGs. PS1-games, PSP-games, Persona 4 Golden, Ys. The only version of Ninja Gaiden I played through was on Vita. The Danganronpa-games, Virtue's Last Reward, Killzone Mercenaries, portable MGS2/3! Spelunky was also amazing on it.
The sad part is that Pro Jared loves jrpgs and many of his favorite games ever made are on the PlayStation Vita.
Theres a reason second hand vitas are expensive and its not a collector thing or rarity thing.

And PSP is A tier. Why the fuck he put the DS into S is beyond me, DS is very mediocre in my opinion. DS is basically a portable Wii, everybody had one, but there’s way too much crap on it

The vita was done dirty here. Playing Suikoden II with that beautiful OLED was an incredible experience. Sooo many Otome and VN games. Danganronpa. Portable Dragon’s Crown, Muramasa, Death Mark, the list goes on. Persona 4 Golden years before it was put on PC. I’d say anyone that played it would put it at a C at the minimum. I say B.
There's some brevity to this. Suikoden II on the PS1 is a very rare and expensive game.
JRPG machine
The Vita is an amazing console to buy nowadays because it has gotten a lot cheaper, a lot easier to mod, has good emulators and has a lot of awesome ports, indies and some cool exclusives (most of which got ported, but still). You can even play Borderlands 2 on it!

Didn’t look this up, but there was Star Trek Strategic Operations Simulator on the Vectrex.
As soon as he said "name a Vetrex game," my mind immediately went to AVGN's Star Trek episode.

@@Cookieofdoom the pc fx was a great console and manny people didnt hear about it. it had the best street fighter 2 port (arcad eperfect), but was quite expensive at the time and it had the architecture of a PC. great console though
Then again, most of those consoles aren't remarkable, save for trivial stuff for like... two of them... games aren't really remarkable, controls are not that good, most of the games are clones of other games...

@@karadanianoI the PC FX was really wrong promoted commerical wise. Sure it was trying to looks like a small modern PC, but at the end it was released at the wrong timing. ppl still was happy with the PCE+CD, and also the PC FX flopped hard, because they forced that mostly only "video format games" should be released to "look more realistic" (like Mega CD with there videos)
Sure it's sad, but if you look at it, the PC FX has more "Games"(i think it was 63?) on it as the VB(22), but most of them not even worth the time playing.

my problem is it couldnt decide what it wanted to be. it wanted to be both a handheld console and phone, but it couldnt compromise. the speaker and microphone are in an ultra uncomfortable spot, the screen just straight up wasnt designed for games with how vertical it was, you had to taks the back off to change game cards, so much is so clunky.

That was pretty good. I would personally put the Vita higher though, even considering how Sony treated it. It played PS1 games, ports of PS2 games, PSP games and had some great exclusives. Also it was a great Final Fantasy machine, you could play 1 all the way to X-2 as well as Tactics, World of FF and a bunch of other spin-offs.
Yeah the Vita usually gets pretty much ignored thanks to SOny treating it like something the never wanted but were forced to create. So the just tried their best to make it so no one notices it. It was actually a pretty neat console but got completely shat on

@Manek Iridius lol well it kind of was an upgraded PSP after all. Funny that! I have both and I prefer the Vita for its screen, size and controls. I'd think the same even if it only played PSP games. Personally I really liked quite a few of the Vita games.

I used to play a lot with my friends who had PS2 and some of the games are still fun. The other systems were more powerful, or in the case of the Dreamcast had cooler games, but the PS2 was more of a jack of all trades which made it way more popular around here.

@@VladiMatt No, Wii is C tier. Brought up to B tier only if we count Project M/Project+ (which I won't) because that mod was and is so fucking good. What classics do we got on Wii? We got... Mario Galaxy... And... Mario Galaxy 2 sort of maybe... That's it.
The Wii was the system literally everyone and their grandma bought, only to later be left collecting dust in the corner while everyone went back to playing the Xbox 360 and/or PS3. The Wii may have beat those two in sales, absolutely, but the 360 and the PS3 were busy collecting raw staying power and were busy being just generally better systems.
@@arnox4554 PS3 and 360 are A tiers, they had problems but ultimately they were really solid. The Wii should be a B though. It was terrible, it was a joke and a disgrace in more ways than one... but in the end it's still a really enjoyable system. Some single player experiences it offered are unique to this day (Manhunt 2 best example), and it has to be one of the top 3 consoles for local multiplayer. If you spend the evening playing Wii games with someone who has a lot of them and knows the console well you're just about guaranteed to have a good time.

N64 cartridges were a business mistake. As a gamer, I was so glad they didn't go with CDs. Because load times. And I didn't care about prerendered cutscenes.
About 6 games "sold" the N64 (Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, and Perfect Dark). The rest were either more 2nd rate titles or just less stellar knockoffs of these same six games.
Hubert Cumberdale you kinda forgot about the other games. Banjo kazooie, Conkers bad fur day, diddy kong racing, donkey kong 64, majoras mask, f zero.

@Manek Iridius The SNES and the PS1-PS2 era are some of the best years of JRPG's that we ever got. It really depends on what kind of games you enjoy.
If JRPG's aren't your thing, it's understandable you wouldn't prefer the SNES. Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, FF4/6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana (and Evermore), BoF II, Suikoden II, Ogre Battle:MotBQ/Tactics Ogre, FF: MQ, Illusion of Gaia, etc. And those are just the obvious ones that come to mind.
Then you've got titles like, as you said, Super Metroid, F-Zero, Mega Man X, Street Fighter II: Turbo, LttP, SMW/SMK, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Sunset Riders, Gradius III, Turtles in Time, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Metal Warriors, Castlevania - probably more I'm forgetting at the moment. I don't know, I understand not preferring a particular console - but it's underselling the SNES pretty hard to say it didn't have any 'knock-out' games.

I think it's less an issue that the N64 is in C and more an issue that something like the Saturn is in B...
In 1996, the n64 was the greatest invention mankind had ever created. Many of the games haven’t aged well though.
TG-16 at least had the Japanese PC Engine counterpart, which had classics such as Snatcher and Rondo of Blood.

However, the editing was a little inconsistent. Most of the time it was top notch, but every so often it looked like a teenager just found out about cut and paste.

SNES and PS2 were both incredible. They better had been "S" ranks without me even knowing by watching the video. (Though VERY honorable mentions for PS1 for excellent variety of RPGs, and the N64 for some revolutionary titles like Mario and Zelda 64).

Agree with most everything on this list, but I would have given the Wii a B just for the VC alone. It made playing N64 games much more tolerable with the game cube controller.

Bro the wii is S. It did sooo much for the industry in terms of getting people into the gaming world. Sure it had trash but it also has absolute icons. Everyone on the planet has played wii sports with their friends and had a blast

I feel like the original xbox crashed too many times and had so many hardware issues.
Switch: "When was the last time you took off controllers and gamed with a friend?" It's called Covid.
Jared on Xbox: "It was expensive when it came out." Me: Ummmm the PS2 launched at the same price, didn't include a HDD or any way of connecting to the internet out of the box, and came out a year earlier. Ummm, okay. The Gamecube was $199 doe. :P
The ps2 did have an ethernet port.
@@celticviking9321 the PS2 startet with an Price of 850DM in Germany (DM = Deutsche Mark), half it, and it was 425€, this is around 500$. But yeah, it's really hard to make a true objective comparison about every single console, if you have no idea what every console history is. At the end it's more about "which console i like more" even if he tries to "compare" them, but at the end, everything is pure subjective opinions.
And to be fair: i don't know how much and how fast the price of a PS2 did fall after it. The Xbox was at 479€ but falls fast to 299€ and everyone did bought it on release got some free Games (physical Games, not the digital BS today)
And GC was talked about it will costs 250€ on release, but it actually launched for a price of 199€. So it was nice to also be able to pick up another Game.
But yeah... at the end it's not about the price, but the overall quality and amount of good Games imo.

@@intrepidnick2939 the fat model did have internet connectivity, the slim didn't come out until 2005 however, resident evil outbreak released 2 years earlier and had online play.
Dude, the PS2's massive library of games just blows the original XBox out of the water. Additionally, it had backwards compatibility with the PS1, adding that entire library to its own as well.

You know, the motion controls of the Wii might have been a silly gimmick... but I still had fun with Dragon Quest Swords. I *know* it was just a rails-shooter where you swung around a sword instead, but it was something I could just have fun with, waving around the wiimote and getting in touch with my inner child. Stupid fun can still be fun.
Im just more amazed that he never played Castlevania Bloodlines!? I was a SNES snot back in the day and even I had to tilt my hat to sega gave props to how great that game was.

The GBA was my favorite handheld system. I had two. The first one, I broke twice. Same way both times. First time, I was playing Golden Sun and kept getting bodied by the final boss and I headbutted the screen. Shattered it.
Second time, I was playing Golden Sun: The Lost Age. And I kept getting bodied by the final boss. And headbutted the screen....again.
I was gonna type "damn, how does he know all those obscures ones" but then came all the ones that even he didn't know, lol. Still respect for knowing so many though. I have been playing video games for around 25 years and I only really know the ones from Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft and have heard of the Sega ones.

3DS is only B tier? That thing is an easy S tier for having such an amazing library as well as having backwards compatibility with the standard DS library. Good list otherwise.

I adore the vita. Just because Sony pulled the rug out from under it doesn't mean it wasn't excellent hardware with excellent capabilities. And a TON of excellent games.
