you do not need to waste your money on a bone folder. You can use MANY objects just laying around to fold the edge. You could probably even use your iphone!! haha. Any hard object with a straight edge will work.

Great video, but one technical correction. 5-mil is not 5 millimeter; mils are thousandths of an inch, so 5-mil corresponds to .005 inches, or 0.127 mm.

Numbers are so not my friend. But now you are! Thanks for the update. So is there a simple term I can use to describe the thickness? It says .005 on the package. I just want people to get this rather than the 4 or 3 variety which are way too thin.

You can say "micrometer" or just "micron". 5 mils is 127 microns, 4 mils is 101 microns, or roughly a 100 microns, 3 mils is roughly 75 microns etc. There is a symbol for micrometer, "μm", so you can say 1 mil = 25 μm.

I'm happy and grateful for the training video. Thank you madam! BUT (always, right? It's the human condition..) why do you do the folding across the top for the height of the book? Wouldn't it be just as well to use the ruler (with the certainty of the 90degree angle to the length) and cut across your piece at that point? Why the bone folder crease, then the folding, then the same with the other side, then creasing the entire piece THEN making the cut at that crease? Just mark the height and make a cut across the piece. I happen to use a large metal T square type ruler for this. Maybe that's the difference....But thank you again for the nice lesson. A couple of comments below point to "too much detail" whereas myself, that says to me "take it real easy, think about what you are doing and why, and then proceed carefully". Better with the details for me. I purchased some 5ml Dura-lar as you suggested and it is great. It makes the clear, torn, taped, and worn out scruffy covers I'm replacing look pretty junky. Strong, scratch resistant, and like you say in your video, what a beautiful, colorful, and bright end result! With lot of protection from the thickness and quality of the clear cover material. What more can I ask for? Thanks again.

Totally. I need to make a new video!! I am in the middle of publishing a book and re-doing my website but as soon as that is done I will be updating and making new videos. Stay tuned!

I prefer my tops to also be folded mylar too. it is too eady over time for the mylar to crack or catch other wise.

Are you using a thinner material? If so I could see how that might be good.

Seems like you were way too OCD about every little thing. Could have been something that was done in two minutes or less.

That's OK, if you are thoroughly familiar with all the materials and methods. Lots of people watching this will never have done it before and as a good teacher you need to make all the steps clear and safe for beginners. You also need to think of the common mistakes or misinterpretations that beginners will make. I think this was a good demonstration. The lady is clearly helped by having three arms, though, especially as the third one is all strong and hairy. She must have some genome!.
