This song was Chester's favorite song and shakes me to the core hearing it after his passing. I'm in tears because the saddest part about this song is that it could be interpreted as breaking the habit of addiction. But when you watch this masterpiece of a music video Chester is showing us he broke the habit by jumping from the building breaking free of the pain because in the last chorus he says "I know I'll never be alright." Its goodbye. His spirit leaves him and becomes one with the other people struggling. It's like I can feel that spirit right with me now as I listen to it. Haunting, devastating, and their deepest darkest song.
Mmm. Mike also wrote this song for Chester. Maybe that's one reason he likes it so much. It's like a best friend saying "I want you to be well. I want you to get better in all ways. I made this song for you"
Linkin' Park was a very introspective band, they were very talented and was just so agonizing hearing about Chester's death. Keep up the the great work. Love you guys.
@@CrazeeAdam He actually wrote it before he met Chester, which is wild. Chester initially refused to perform it, because it related to him and his struggles with addiction so much that he thought Mike wrote it about him.
This song has helped a lot of us in the military that have PTSD and Depression. It has saved countless people. Just sad he lost his fight with depression. We will miss Chester Bennington
Linkin Park is easily one of the most diverse bands ever. i’ve loved them since the first time I heard them as a kid. rip Chester, one of the sweetest human beings to touch this earth.
Breaking the Habit in retrospect definitely the struggles Chester faced day in and day out. Linkin Park was "that band" for me in high school and shortly after. Their music connected with so many. Anything off their first 2 albums is gold to me.
I won't say Linkin' Park was my first ever Rock song, but they were the first band I listened to at a time of bullying. I remember sweeping the entryway of my grandmother's house. She let me listen to the music I wanted to. I enjoyed this song. That was 18 years ago. I never felt like this song was about addiction to drugs, but something more that you could interpret as an individual. This was before the time of Shazam, I scrambled for paper, writing the words so I could search for it later. Though Chester.... well yea. Linkin' Park really made me step back from the edge and look at life as something to try for not to die for.
Love all their music. Saw an interview with Mike and Chester talking about this song. Chester says it was the hardest song to record because it's when he was going through his addiction.
Mmhmm. I've heard several times Mike himself wrote this for Chester as a friend. Like actually just for Chester. To let him know he's there for Chester and that he wants him to be better :(
They transition the Alternative Heavy Element with other genre such as Hip-hop, Electronic, Alternative rock, and etc. for all of their songs. I truly was blessed to hear these guys before Chester's suicide. God Bless his soul and his battle with depression. Thank you for watching their videos and past hits.
this is one of my fav LP songs. Linkin Park was my college band, had them on repeat cause Chester was the voice of my soul. they let me scream out loud what I'd been holding inside "I'll never be alright." god damn you, Chester. you always spoke my truth.
Chester was a legend, all the struggles he had growing up was portrayed through his singing. He’s deeply missed throughout the whole Linkin park community will always love him and he will always be our hero #makechesterproud
That last shot pans across showing the whole band just standing there is amazing. Like they finished playing and are starting to lose that adrenaline. Even though it’s animated you can feel the intensity RIP Chester
"I feel like this is music you listen to for therapy" Girl...... You have no idea😢 I remember when they first came out, everyone in my High school had at least one of their songs they'd listen to when things got tough, they felt let down or were just ANGRY. 3 of the biggest ones were Numb, Breaking the habit and Faint I always bottled up what I felt until I blew up on my parents. So, yeah... Breaking the habit, numb and crawling were my 3..In THAT order. Breaking the habit while I was still hot, numb for the hollowness after our fights and crawling for how disgusting I felt for hurting the people I love. Yeah, Linkin Park is music for therapy

Linkin Park, Evanescence, and Breaking Benjamin, were a large part of my high school. Most of their early albums were a constant in my life, just to try and make it through a single school day.
It's interesting people talking about how this is insight into Chester's life. Mike actually wrote Breaking the Habit while watching Chester spiral. He presented it as any other song he had written but it was obviously about Chester and was a bit of a wake-up call at that time.
Probably STILL my favorite Linkin Park song to this day, and it has been out since I was in Junior High I wanna say. The bridge onwards is still my favorite part of the song
This song hits deep for me because of my older sister who is a drug addict which is why I’ve raised my several nieces who have lived with me most of their lives and I didn’t have a social life in my twenties because of that and it helped me with my drug problems and she has a history of abusive relationships and my own history of self medicating with drugs
i believe it’s meant to be interpreted both ways. it could be taken as ending it all, and it can be seen as killing the old you, in the attempt to become someone new. amazing song either way !
I think it's definitely about suicide because Chester clearly jumps off the building, why didn't they talked about if? No one paya attention when they react to it ugh
@@daniellevitoriaa840 Yes but your missing he is thinking about jumping that is why Time rewinds back where he is back on top of the building because he chose not to do it hence the rewind to undo the thought of actually jumping
It isn't about suicide, even though it's easy drawing that parallel. Mike wrote it for a friend with addiction problems (likely Chester) to try to help with the mental battle against the addiction.
Breaking the habit Mike wrote about a friend's (Chester) addiction problems at the time and over coming them. Great song. Thank you for the reaction. I've been listening to linkin park for 20 years now always amazing music from them. They inspired so many with their music. Wish Chester was still with us.. RIP CHESTER
Might be that, or it might be the darkest thing you can imagine... I’ll paint it on the walls (shooting yourself), this is how it ends, I’ll never be alright... Breaking The Habit is probably just as much a suicide song. But I believe they left that open to interpretation.
I haven't seen this in the comments but Mike Shinoda the band's rapper actually wrote this for Chester who had dealt with addiction and substance abuse in his life and he wanted to see him better and happy.

Clutching my cure (a gun) I have no options left again… I’ll paint it on the walls. (Blood) I don’t know how I got this way I’ll never be alright so I’m breaking the habit tonight. (Breaking the habit = suicide bc he feels that’s the only way to fix everything
