This movie is just pure joyful lunacy. I was a kid when I first saw it, and I loved it and had all the toys. It was outrageously popular at my school. Whenever I see people react to it today, they always seem like they have no idea what to do with it, because it sort of defies genre and isn't particularly interested in traditional narrative. The movie is more interested in providing a fun ride, and as long as you don't take it too seriously, Beetlejuice definitely delivers.

Special effect were made to look quirky , they could have done better job , but Burton decided that it would be better to make it look cheap .

Agreed, he's got so many classic scores under his belt, and many of them take Burton's movies to the next level. Batman '89 is still my favorite, Sleepy Hollow is great too. I have written various film score reviews for FSMO(Film Score Monthly Online), so it's so great that all these great people leave fantastic comments.

    • @AMortalDefiant
      @AMortalDefiant Год назад

Yes, film composers don't get enough credit, but I'd argue that video game composers get even less credit, and do just as hard - often harder - of a job. In modern games, soundtracks are meant to evolve along with the gameplay, so the music is design with themes in a more modular form that can be morphed depending on the gameplay. The original composers for the old NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) did some mind-blowing work, especially given the limitations of the hardware (try writing a symphonic piece while only having use of three "instruments"/sound channels, which can only play sine, square, or sawtooth waveforms!). On top of that, they were often the engineers responsible for the entire sound FX, *AND* implementation into the game - something an audio engineer would do today. Another thing is that games can easily have 30-90 hours of gameplay - that requires a TON more music than a movie does. Many games have multi-disc soundtracks of 60-70 tracks.
Here's a favorite from Final Fantasy IV: ruclips.net/video/FOg0LCHQ9kY/видео.html&ab_channel=MalcolmRobinsonMusic The whole soundtrack is incredible. This version was made from orchestra samples to give it better justice. There are versions performed live via orchestra, but the recordings tend to be mediocre, and they tend to change the arrangements too much (as well as cutting out the bass, which drives a lot of the songs). They tympani rolls, the slight dissonance, still send chills down my spine. On the "Boss Battle Theme": the ostinato on the bassline...! Just absolutely epic. Games such as Metroid, Zelda, Strider, Destiny of an Emperor all had song of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, and sadly, most people never hear them because they are "just" part of a game.

I love seeing Cassie do a movie that she isn't terrified of for a change.
A Joke Explained (that NO ONE ever seems to get): When Barbara is holding a tiny Beetlejuice, and she says, "You leave her alone, you..." and Beetlejuice sprouts thorns and cuts her fingers...that is a visual reference to the word "prick."
As in, "You leave her alone...you prick."

I also watched the animated series a lot, which was alright - everyone should watch the intro at least one as it's a wonderful rollercoaster ride with amazingly catchy theme

Beetlejuice is probably my favorite movie of all time, because it's an imaginative romp and a little bit of everything. It's so fun with a great soundtrack. I saw it first as a kid, I don't know how I'd view it if I first saw it as an adult. There's a lot that isn't explained, but the whole world is so wild I don't feel like I need it to- like how the weirdest of things make sense in a dream, just by default of it being a dream.

This was also the first movie I saw Winona Ryder in and I had a bit of a crush on her after seeing this movie; I loved her character's personality and how she looked and she was one of the reasons I saw this four times when it came out. And Michael Keaton's performance was awesome; he was at the top of his game in this one. My favorite part is at the end with Lydia dancing in midair to "Shake, Shake, Senora."

You'd plant yourself down, and leave your buddy stranded up high and they'd say:
    "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice let me down!"
"What will you give me if I let you down?"
And after they said something good, you'd shift your weight so their end of the seesaw would come down.
Or get off your side entirety and make their side come CRASHING down.
That's just how boys play, don't know what to tell you. 😁

He loves his actors and uses them many times but always appropriately. Tim Burton is a Modern Master of film.

A subtle detail in the movie is Beetlejuice can't say his name but he can show the written word Betelgeuse which is the name of a star that is pronounced the same. It's established that Adam mispronounces words like when he reads deceased as diseased. Barbara knows how to pronounce Betelgeuse correctly even when Adam calls him Beetlegise but she doesn't correct him. Instead you only hear his name correctly for the first time when she decides to summon him. 14:35
