The Huawei P50 Pocket is the company's first major flagship to come outside of China in a long while, and it's an exciting foldable … running EMUI instead of Harmony OS and with a few related issues. This is my first impressions video.

Your reviews are always not just reviews- they always do provide further analysis along with a different flavour of B-rolls compared to others
I’m just happy he’s one of the tech creators that doesn’t do ‘unboxing first impression’ videos like it’s 2012
@Safwaan let's hope not
Haven't been interested in a new Smartphone in a long time, but this looks exciting and sensible. Phones have grown in size lately to the point that it's no longer comfortable. Yet with these new foldables you get the benefit of a large touch screen, yet can fold it so it still fits inside your pocket. Secondly, the screen is already protected by design, so you don't need to wrap an additional cover around your phone which again makes it more handy.
but get samsung, huawei's foldables, including this one has been having a lot of problems with the screen
I strongly agree with your opinion. I think for this model, you are using it like the handy-phone in about 20 years ago, I really like the feeling which when you want to answer to the phone call and you roll over your phone. (I am not the old grandpa I'm just a high school kid)
Been using Huawei phones for a while and was always happy. Switched to oneplus and... The moment that Huawei is back on Google I'm back with Huawei!
Sam here, I have used few Huawei flagships over the years and they are freaking durable.. But. Ow I'm concerned due to lack of Google and US ban. I need a new phone soon because I stopped getting updates on my p30 pro. I don't see myself using iPhone.
Same here...
My phone always drop without a case and it's durable af😂 I only got a few scratches. Mine is P20 Pro
@@trojan7790 my wife has that one as well, great phone
Honor is also Huawei's but not sure if they are available in the west. Since Honor wasn't banned, Huawei sold it but still releases the same model and specs to their new ones. But originally they target students so idk about the specs offer now.
Honor kept Google services.
I gotta say: the circles with this color makes it the prettiest foldable i have seen
So it should be, for that price!
@@tsuchan
Yeah
So elegant and classy
Yet soo taxing on the pocket🤣
The B-rolls were Beautiful, Love how you used so many kinds of Gold Objects!
3:06 as soon as layed eyes on the price i knew this phone is already dead
no one would be an extra 500$ over the flip 3 to get this
Guess what? This is a niche product, definitely not for mainstream users.
I'm in a group for Middle East Huawei fans, we are more than 5,000, and all of us will order or already pre-ordered it
@@SShreyas17 you're talking as if the flip 3 wasn't marketed as a fashion status
and not niche enough lmao
@@Hadi2243 yeah middle east is the only market left for huawei, i live in the middle east and still see Huawei loyalists, but nowhere near as it used to be
but even that won't be enough to rise from what the US did to it
@Rida Kesserwan It's NOT a niche product now. And every product is the niche product when it first launch.
The touchscreen phones, camera on the phone, humongously sized phones, all were "niche" products when they first came out, just like Flip 3.
Huwai should just pay custom rom developers to make stock Android custom roms and make it really easy to flash it with an app for normal people effectively skirting around the ban
Need more of this Videos Martin 👏
Huawei: Here is our new P50 pocket.
Samsung: That looks like a copy of our Flip 3 modell
Motorola: That flip 3 looks like a copy of our moto razr....
Thanks for the mention of Fleksy man!! Thanks for the video
Thanks for the great review and insights. The audio of your clip sounds a bit subdued or not so crispy on my smart TV set.
Wow! What a great design I love it
I'm glad you're covering Huawei phones. Most so called tech RUclipsrs are super biased towards Huawei now just because it doesn't sell in USA
Thanks for that dear...
I am pretty sure EMUI12 just like on the Nova 9 features OpenHarmony 2.1 so you have the API and can use it.
But you are right. Huawei is confusing users and tech reviewers.
EMUI 12 is still based on Android 10. But there are already HarmonyOS betas available, although it's basically just another EMUI update.
Actually they used AOSP 11 for the P50 Pocket series as they needed drivers which are only available for A11 right now.
In general EMUI12 also brings OpenHarmony 2.1
I really like the design of this golden phone. I like the elements of Art, it seems like the Art style in modern Europe, and I appreciate to see Huawei is trying to combine the phone and the elements of art together, that is a groundbreaking process for Huawei Fold phones! Thanks for sharing this video!
Great job on your information 🙂
looks amazing
Is it really good in terms of battery? That's what u care most I'm using Huawei almost 6 years and I will continue started since p8 version 🙌
Video is good, but I need to bring your attention to constant high-pitched noise hearable in a background - perhaps something's wrong with microphone or sound mixing?
The Box reminds me of 'Watch the Throne' album cover
the audio seems wierd or off just a little bit dont know why?
This was a such good video!
Going to check out this Fleksy keyboard, I'm still using the OG Swype, lol
And good taste in books with The Black Company there.
this is officially the sexiest phone out now in golden color
This is the best Nebula sponcer I have seen from you. No rant on RUclips and shows the real advantage of Nebula. Awesome
How many times can you fold this phone until you have a permanent visible line accross your screen?
It's still behind the Z3 Flip, if you ask me.
but can you open it with ohne hand after pulling it out of your pocket? it's a certain won't buy for me if this isn't possible
Art Nouveau phone design is not something I was expecting but damn does it work well.
You'd think that Huawei would have enough problems without also forcing its customers to use a proprietary memory card format. Or is that something else the US government have made them do?
Of course the US Government is the sole reason for getting Huawei banned from SD Association (a trade group whose members are the only ones who can officially use an SD card)
@@SShreyas17 Ah, that makes sense. Thank you!
Really is time the usa's deflation gets accelerated again. Man, I miss the trump days.
Still don‘t get why I should buy the Z Flip/ P50 Pocket form factor over a regular phone. The only thing people seem to come up with is „it‘s smaller“ but in my opinion that is not worth the trade off of always having to flip open your phone
I'm with you but I have some female friends who love them as their pockets are usually tiny
I would be for them, but I can't help but think the folding means more chance of breaking
Because you find it cool, plain and simple.
How old are you?
You seem to have never flipped a phone and get that ultimate feeling :))
PS: Motorola added a pretty big screen on one of the small faces, they should have made that bigger. That way, you would only flip it open for videos. A 3.2" screen is more than enough for regular use. The Iphone is proof of that.
@@jameschalkwig787 I have realme android device which i bought for 350$. It's been two and half years since I bought the phone. I don't have any hardware or software issues with phone. It really depends on how we handle our device regardless if it's an iphone or Android device..... But these flip phones are little overated. They are fragile and unnecessary.
the pocket can be upgraded to harmonyos 2 from emui 12 on myhuawei
the tech looks cool and all but I really can‘t see that this super wide aspect ratio is convenient to use in every day.
There must be another reason harmony os isn't be shipped everywhere
Did you change the lens of your camera? I notice a different bokeh on the neon sign!
I love that it looks like a metal cigarette holder/box. Albeit extremely expensive one lol. It's really great for outings, at the bar, I can see a fly girl rocking it, fits in her tiny purse no problem. It's quite feminine, though black, gunmetal versions wouldn't look so.
While I think it's cool to see new stuff introduced to the smartphone market. (even though flip phones aren't super new) I'm not sure it's for me though as to me it doesn't seem quite worth it yet
True, it looks like a very expensive compromise. No Google services. Half baked OS. Ok hardware
.this kind of phones usually for the Babes . think Cosmetics 💋💄

Camera sounds super interesting
5g is definitely not a big deal 😄😏 as long as I have good coverage, 3G speeds are plenty enough.
Yeah, even Ars Technica reviewers say the difference between 4G and 5G is negligible
Stop lying. 4G ok....3g 👎 big difference.
@@Swagalious689 😏 kid.. when your phone shows “3G” icon nowadays, it’s not actually 3G, it just doesn’t have much coverage. That’s why it makes it seem like 3G is bad.
I don’t even remember when phones started doing that.. it just happened. Maybe like 6 years ago when I had Lenovo p70, forced it to connect to 3G, and showed someone gullible, who was buying all the marketing for 4g, how fast 3g actually is.
When you don’t know something, it doesn’t mean someone is lying, it just means you don’t know something.
3g lol. Going back to s3 days
4G is fine, but 3G is just way outdated. My country shutdown the 3G network last year
I wonder how long and what is their usual reason to change phones for people who look for new phone designs. Phones for me for the past 3 years are more on should run simple games (playable in short bursts), reading, messaging and calls, and watch youtube videos. So what i really want is 8 5-6 battery life, access to secure services, do what i want as said before reliably while not overheating and lag or crash.
I noticed, while filming tab video I spotted RUclips vanced😌 actually that make sense because of unavailability of Google services 😊
What’s the time stamp?

Thank you!
Do some more contents with P50 Pocket
:)
Smartphones are an oscillating yet secularly resonant industry. The secular resonance is based on the industry expectations (giving an improvement in the tech trend) but also brings the older ideas such as compactness, single handed usage and perhaps headphone jack(?) in the future. Whatever seemed bad back then could become a feature due to the oscillating nature.
Just download the Google play service by yourself?
That’s too bad the super device concept is something I’m really interested in enough where I would consider importing it to the US. (interruptions to my workflow throw everything off and the less interruption there is the better. Having disability is really expensive)
Your reviews are always interesting. And as a Flip 3 owner and fan, I love seeing innovation in this form factor.
@L. G. Can u explain how is this a COPY?
Also got a Flip 3 and at least judging by the imgages and data sheet I do not see any innovation besides higher battery capacity. Samsungs hinge design is most likely much more sophisticated and less proned to fail. Huaweis solution with the screen folded part retracting into the hinge means that there is also a bigger risk for dirt to enter the device. Thats most likely also the reason why the pocket insn't water proof. With the flip 3 there is also only one point where the screen gets bend very drastically, whereas the pocket has two points. Also I would not want to miss to positon the screen where I want. Do not need it often but when, it comes in handy. A bigger battery would be nice to have though.
Can i close it like moto razor or the screen will shatter?
how did huawei get access to snapdragon chips?
Oh, so a phone sized phone just with a less durable display.... I like the samsung ones that fold to a tablet form factor because that is actually useful since you cant fit a tablet in your pocket. But a phone sized phone on the other hand....
how long till we get guilloche enamel phones?
Looks like last year's phone sold at a high price point. The cheaper regular P50 looks like the better deal at a base price of $899.
definitely should make more videos about this phone. Not many videos are made on it so theres an opportunity and im sure many are curious of huaweis strategy or 'comeback'
Looks good. I've always been anoyed with the size of smartphones.
We went from huge bricks like my first sony celular phone to the perfectly sized nokia's back to these huge slabs again.
Nokia's like the 8210 and the 8850 still are my favorite cell phones.
Very much worth a look in my opinion. Not to much bothered with all the cutting edge tech and features, most of it is useless nonsense anyway.
Damn, the 8210 brings back some memories.
I'm always annoyed with the size of smartphones too, they're always too small and dainty for my big hands. Most phones are dealbreakers because of the thin profile and lack of thick chunky bezels. Make it close to the size of a 7" phablet and an inch thick with a 10,000mah hot swappable battery, headphone jack, and 2 usb ports and i'm sold in an instant. That's my dream phone, not something the size of a credit card with no reasonable way to hold it. My hands are huge, on most screens a fingertip covers 1/4 of the screen and triggers multitouch, gestures. or just doesn't detect like on iphones. I've literally got to lick my pinky finger and use the wet tip to type on an iphone.
I'm so sick of these little trash tier toys with no features or connectivity that i need being marketed as $1200 gimmicks while i've got to go back to like 2015 to find a phone that's not absolute garbage and that actually WORKS then put a chunky rugged case on it to make it thick enough to hold without disappearing into the folds of my skin. You know that picture of Andre the Giant holding a beer? That's what most phones feel like in my hands lol.
I'd LOVE a 6" screen, not foldable but flexible. Make the whole phone a moderately stiff silicone case that flexes a bit when it needs to and will bounce when it hits the ground. Raised silicon bezels to protect the screen.
@@rustymustard7798 lol bro how tall are you?

Looks like a cool device but as you said, too much baggage (for now)
Samsung had some difficulties, but in the end it was right about their hinge design. It's sad that this one from Huawei can't stay half open.
"NO GOOGLE NO PHONE" Google is making "SMART" the Smartphone
And may be time for a bit makeover of the studio?
I don't know, where is the point?
Son, flexation is ARM-based. Wait for the iPhone Flex 2023.
Will it be sale globally?
Did huwei just rip off iris van herpen? For that dress? Or was it a collaboration?
Love the design!
5G is not a big deal for consumers, 4G speeds are more than enough for everything apart from maybe streaming games, which many consumers wouldn't do anyway.
i have a Nova4, and I #o have the Harmony OS....although I did purchased in china...
so like the Zflip?
One of the very few videos which is not a gsmarena web page being dictated.
1:30 You meant on the Motorola RAZR...?
Never forget RAZR!
Honestly, I'd kill for a progressive web app (PWA) from my bank. I'd love to jump ship to a Linux phone, but everything is tied to the walled gardens of Apple and Google. The web experience feels like 1999 so it's ugly and not in any way mobile optimized, but is clipped without the ability to use or process QR codes that cover the country as a way to transfer cash. I'd probably use it by default even on my current Android phone because of the greater security I can get from the browser sandbox and not having the bank meddle in my business of if my device is rooted and requiring MagiskHide. I actually switched banks because my previous bank detected past MagiskHide... and I use the rooted environment to give myself some more security features like modifying the hosts file and a firewall.
I own both the PinePhone and Librem 5 USA. Linux phones are a lot of fun if you are geek who can appreciate them, but it will probably be a year or two before they will be ready to replace my Android phone. The good thing is that they get lifetime software updates, so you can buy them now and you don't lose your investment, since they keep getting better over time with the software updates.
Very good video. Look Huawei P50 pocket 📱 awesome 👍🏽 if the US didn't ban Huawei they would be number 1⃣ love to get one 🙌🏽
Sometimes I get confused between tech altar and tech spurt
Didn’t know you used N26, have you seen the scandal in France about N26
Looking at it on the flip side
It reminds me of a Nintendo 3ds
Downside of APK is you won't get updates without a store
Aurora store
that crease is pretty wide
Yeah.... King is back and its Huawei
While watching this, I got a Samsung Z Flip 3 advertisement.
I feel like SD cards will be replaced with a faster standard that supports the same or more GB/TB that SD does. Huawei's own Propriteary option, most Likely not. Something made by SD and a Coalition of Companies. Yes.
Of course I'd choose the Z flip mainly due to Huawei not Working in USA and having being sanctioned due to worries of people being spied on after they tried to get their Phones sold through AT&T and the Government had that Shut down. Might explain why other Chinese companies hadn't made it into the USA. At least I hope the Nothing Phone gets a US Variant as I think It would be a Alright Alternative to the A53 and samsungs Midrange
I have EMUI12 with full google services.
Is this on the global market
EMUI 12 is a rebranded Harmony OS 2.0 which is based of android 11.
And also huawei communication sucks, their plans are a H2 2022 global harmony os release according to pretty much every source but they tell their official global stores everything last minute
It's ironic how Huawei not having 5G..lol
If huawei wasn't crippled by US cut offs i'd probably have a huawei phone right now, i had one in 2017
love it. is like a cigarette case from xix
1.5k and no 5g ? dang
Still concerned with the software problems
It’s a collaboration with a fashion designer Iris Van Herpen
❓Question: What's the best current gen phone that best matches a stock android experience with the fewest compromises (a phone that someone with an older OnePlus device might get)?
The golden age of "clean android" seems to have been and gone.

But the price is crazy!!!

Please get on Odysee, I can't stand those 20s+ ads anymore.
I'm more interested in knowing how Huawei managed to purchase Chips but unable to obtain 5G variants? Aren't they forbidden to purchase chips altogether, including SD888?
I wanted that explained as well.
The US government has given qualcomm a license to sell chips to huawei but without 5G.
The "concern", real or not, is primarily about Huawei's influence on or penetration of western telecoms infrastructure.
regret buying one, it operates like my P30 Pro and nothing surprising like the P series used to be
In Serbia have wolt in app gallery
The cover screen looks classy but kind of dumb at the same time they is a reason why screens are rectangles
I bouth a huawei phone last year thinking im a teck nerd and can figure it out how to make it work and put google services on it, i was so wrong, thr phone is basicly locked from doing anything to it, if you try to downgrade or anytjing you will fry your motherboard, the only app store workaround that is legit is aurora store wich downloads apps from the official play store, yku can download anonimusly or loging with your google acvount it doesnt matter. That is the only reason i haven literly destroyed it from my last nerves.
I was a former Huawei user and I really really like the Huawei phones. I had an older phone the P20 lite but I was perfectly fine with it. Last year I needed a new phone and got back to Samsung because since the sanctions Huawei does no longer have Android and thats a big point for me because of the Google apps. My brother has a Huawei P40 version which doesn't have Android anymore. He doesn't like it and only has problems with it. His next phone won't be a Huawei either. Before I bought a Huawei I was a Samsung user since I got my first phone and that's why I turned back to Samsung and bought the Galaxy S21 and I really love it 💜
it does have androis, it doesnt have google services
