Coach Nick I started a team a couple years ago and with help from some of your videos went from a 0-9 team losing by an average of 25 to a 6-2 team getting ready for our playoffs. We still have a ways to go but your info has been a great help!
The goat is back, coach Nick i'm IN! These fundamentals are so easy that get lost in the basic teaching for juniors or someone who's never been taught. You got a good thing going on here keep it up
Coach I’ve been watching you for 10 years now and I definitely would ask for your help with my jump shot. Thank you so much for the great work over the last decade👍🏽
So I have basketball hoop in my living room, I just tried these tips (the 11 o clock toes pointed and bringing the ball from lower) holy shit it actually works lol.
Great video! i don't know why my shooting stance always used to be pointing on the left side diagonally like all the shooters, but i just recently switched my left leg to be squared up more and my right leg goes inward a bit instead of square, and my release on the shot feels way better and shoots a lot more straight. I watch a lot of melos highlights and he does have 2 legs going left but his release on the shot is so smooth and i try to mimic that, and i know that feeling like i know the shot is going to go in if i have that flick on the ball from the release like melos.
Now I know why Ben Simmons makes all his off-season training video 3-pointers, and why he can't make them in game. Coach Nick, please be in pre-game too, so you can teach Ben to shoot BEFORE the actual game and not during the off-season lol ;)
Worked on stuff like this with my homie who can't shoot for shit. Dude got so much better. He would always end the shooting practice with him shooting over my hand. I wasn't neccerly playing hard defense, but it was enough for me to stand infront of him so he doesn't get scared during the game. People won't allow contest your shot but they will be around. Helped out so much. We started under the rim and slowly kept going further and further. I don't even want him shooting to many 3 pointers untill his close shot and mid range shots are very comfortable for him. It does magic for people when you work with them.
Love coach Nick but not a fan of the turn. Makes it harder to shoot turning over your left shoulder. The feet will not always face the basket and a slight turn is alright but too much can hurt a player from attacking both directions
But you don’t want your “feet” facing the basket anyway. The shooting hip and elbow are what you need aligned to the rim, and the fear of “too much turn” is always overblown as practicing your shot allows you to calibrate when there are different angles
Dude u need to turn unless u are shooting a chest pass as a shot. One hand release means you are basically shooting darts and all dart players turn. Plus u got ratioed by coach Nick. Watch some more nba bro coz EVERY nba player turns. U wanna say kobe or curry it harden don't turn??
People shouldn’t try to ridicule you just because you have a different view. The conversation about this is a good process to go through. You bring up 2 good points: 1- is there such thing as too much turn? Of course. And you agreed a slight turn is good. The turn is supposed to be slight, about 10-11’O clock so you’re actually in agreement with coach Nick. 2- with a turn it does make shooting going to the right harder, that’s where incorporating the leg drift is taught to counteract that difficulty. And it makes shooting going to the left easier (no leg drift)
Jumpshot revamps are hard lol. You do a different motion two times and the third time you revert right back to your old form. I guarantee you that half the dudes in these clips are reverting back to their old form the first game they play lol
I was really hoping that during this video Coach Nick would seamlessly go right into a product ad while talking to the guys that he's helping by pulling a manscape trimmer out of his back pocket and encouraging them to shave their balls.
I would say instead of a [sound of a swish] maybe have another camera to film the shot and edit it out but that would require more resources (additional camera, personnel). but overall, this could turn out to a great series! I appreciate a good content
Hi coach ! I live in New Zealand and would really like to come and get trained by you in the states ... I can book my flights etc, just seeing if we can make it happen ?? I look forward to your reply, can send you my footage also if needed, Kind regards Tariq
Look up the book "Attention and Motor Skill Learning" by Gabriele Wulf. The problem here (and why the people may still miss after you help them) is that your coaching is all internal focus of attention--versus external. If you only focus on the alignment of your elbow, hips, feet, hands, etc., then your body has a much tougher time processing how to hit a jump shot, even though the suggestions themselves may be correct. If the focus is external (i.e. the basket, feel of the ball, a good flow), and you can re-word the suggestions to keep the focus external, then your good suggestions will transfer more into success. The body processes much better from an external focus of attention. It assimilates the motion very naturally so that it is second-nature.
And I strongly believe this is why some players (Ben Simmons, Shaq, and others) had such difficulty hitting free throws, or lost their ability to hit a jump shot, because some coach overcoached them using an internal focus of attention, and they got completely screwed up. Tiger Woods's golf swing is another great example.
I’m absorbing an amazing book called Straight Shooter which says the exact same thing and I’m certainly going to figure out how to blend these two together. Love external focus!!
The turning the feet thing makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Most people shoot from the side of their dominant hand so that's what you want in-line with the basket.
It's not as common as it used to (and it doesn't apply to these guys you helped), but it's pretty jarring in 2021 when you see a young player in college with a busted jumper from a mechanical perspective. I get it with us old folks who had to learn to shoot per-internet on any hoop we could find that there'd be a lot of ugly shots, but in 2021 there are hundreds of free resources available to learn to shoot so when you see some 4 star prospect shooting with his elbow flying out or guys chucking up three pointers like they're inbounding a soccer ball it's pretty crazy. ;)
Stirling Moss said "there are 2 things a man would never admit that he cannot do it. Satisfy a woman and driving a car". I guess Sir Moss missed "throwing a Basketball".
@BBALLBREAKDOWN, I recorded some cell phone video to submit.... then I watched it. Holy crap, I shoot like an 8 year old. So much is broken, I had no idea... in my mind, I look like Steph Curry when I shoot 🤣🤣🤣. Seriously, I had no idea. My elbow is way out , I bring the ball behind my right shoulder, and after i launch the ball my whole body twists! So just the advice to video myself was gold, thank you 👍✌🤞🙏🙏🙏
