I used to dislike how Nick used to almost shove the hop down your throat in earlier videos i've watched. But I appreciate the fact he tried to understand how the 1-2 can be more beneficial in certain situation.I grew up being taught the 1-2 and square your shoulders but in high school when I was more athletic,I subconsciously used the hop as I had strength and balance and got into euro steps and pro hops. But now that i'm older ad not as quick I've reverted back to more of the 1-2, I believe there is a place and time for both.
I just shared this with my guy Areez and he msgs me saying your voice is annoying. I reply "Hey sports fans....Im about 5 years from being that guy." I teach both and expect players to learn both and then apply them where they feel comfortable. For example, Areez 1-2 walks into a lot of his mid pulls but im after him to hop out of moves onto his toes and into his shot. It just takes a lot of practice to master both but it's super helpful to be able to jump or 1-2 at your discretion.
@@bballbreakdown In all fairness hes a 25 year old kid.....being trained by a 35 year old man child. I dont think your voice is annoying sports fans. Coach Nick is a W.
Love seeing this kind of content! I don't play bball, but I still (or therefore?) love seeing the fundamentals broken down like this! Since I'm in AR, this one with Ty was just a plus! Thanks for the great content, Coach Nick!
The left hop is toughest for me rhythm and timing wise I almost agree that its easier to shoot off the dribble going left but going right just feels more natural. Always feel like im traveling or just have some sort of disconnect with shooting while driving left any tips? Hard to explain but its like the inertia from going left then trying to shoot feels hella awkward like I could almost fall backwards and to the side if i dont hop into it and plant my feet firmly but i also dont want that to be my only shooting method cuz that will become easy to read.now going right is much smoother although I have to turn in mid air it just feels better and I can pull off any move in my imagination then leading up to and still get a decent shot. As for the rhythm and foot placement and timing of the dribble to make sure I dont travel or anything is almost non existent and dont hafta hop to feel more comfortable pulling it
What helps me going left is I try to time the dip when the last foot lands. Usually I’m doing a left hand dribble to go left, and if it’s a 1-2 step my footwork is right-left. I’ll try to time my dip or start my dip when my left foot touches the floor
@DrizzleTV Natural mechanics are being used like the dip, sweep & sway, hip rotation, and landing turned. Both sides use them, but one was self-taught and let their bodies figure it out while the others didn't.
Hey, coach great video for people that play the game as shooters. Speaking of shooting, could you do a video on the best "shooters" that the Lakers should try to get next to Lebron and AD? 3pt Accuracy, Shooting motions, spot up shooting, running through screens to get open, can they generate offence in the second unit etc.
Oh, and (R)FAs that they can afford is the criteria. They don't have to be starters and give them a bonus if they got defense game too. This is my list and I think 3 of the below would be a good fit: 1. Jeremy Lamb 2. Malcolm Brogdon 3. Harrison Barnes (if he opts out and wants a longer contract for less annually) 4. Patrick Beverly (might be too loyal to Clippers) 5. Nikola Mirotic 6. Terrence Ross 7. Trey Burke 8. Kent Bazemore (too expensive?) 9. JJ Reddick (Old and not much defense) 10. KCP with paycut (drastic paycut) 11. Trevor Ariza (Older and defense is slowing down but cheaper) 12. Mychal Green (Back up center for AD)
This video is going to help me Im lefty and sometimes i feel awkward going left because i like to hop on my shot. But now i know is better to do the 1 2 going to my left 👍
I think is necesary to have all the options in your repertory, one two, starting witn left and right, or right left ..and The hoop in all the diferent directions and chose acordingly to TVE time and space you have
Very nice short demonstrative clip! Good combination of theory and practice, keep 'em short like this. I fully expect an upcoming breakdown of how Anthony Davis might fit with Lebron James or am I wrong here, coach? ;)
other than the sound of the chains banging against the mic it was great. although i understand that details like that dont stick out when shooting on location and making a quick vid

The secret to the hop is keeping it very low, springy, explosive. If you didn’t like it in the past, it was probably because you were watching people who weren’t doing it right
If my set point is at my eyebrows do i raise the ball to my eyebrows and bring it into my eyebrows and shoot? Or do i raise the ball and when it reachs the level of my eyebrows then i shoot? Plz someone answer this it would help alot

Coach Nick reminds me of what Shia LaBeouf is gonna look like in about 15 yrs...😳 Anyhow...i disagree w/this kid. The hop is neither faster or more efficient. Well, perhaps more efficient partially bc he can get fully underneath the shot. But he literally took more steps & more time to get into the shot. What it does do perhaps is allow for greater explosion upward. But not more speed or efficiency. The 1-2 is quicker & bc u ca stop on a dime wut may get lost in upward explosion is not necessary. But also bc ur exploding into the left which ist the pwr leg u get good explosion anyway.
I’ll take that comp! But without question the hop is faster because it is one less step and then u get the more explosive motion into the air. Just about every NBA shooter tells me the same
@@bballbreakdown I'm just busting ur chops. I watched Constantine last weekend. Anyhow....Coach, watching the vid...he comes of the screen dragging his left foot w/ the dribble. In that case he has no choice but to hop in order to get a shot off quickly. But if he turns the corner fast w/ that left foot as his drag foot in the middle of a running motion there's no way gathering w/ 2 feet then exploding is faster...(unless they have extremely quick feet &/or size). it's an extra motion. & it's easier to read as a defender bc quite literally he's can only shoot from that position. I just don't remember any of the great modern scoring guards turning the corner w/ a hop step. I certainly only do that kind of gather when i'm in space.
