I think it's fine that there are rare flowers. But it's absolutely bullshit that there is no way of knowing which flowers are avaliable in yout island. And feels kinda unfair how some have an unlimited supply for breeding blue and golden roses while some have mums with only a few hybrid colours. Either give every flower species same amount of cool hybrids or make roses avaliavable for everyone trhough mystery islands or something.
ok so even though this process looked incredibly complicated and time consuming and not worth it, I watched until the end. I'm glad I did. I found a hybrid rose island with orange roses a few weeks ago. So I organized them differently, made sure they were all watered and this morning I have a blue rose bud. @@BaconSizzles08 My island's flowers are Roses but I've gotten a hybrid flower island for Hyacinths before. So I don't think it's limited to your island flower.
@@BaconSizzles08 Its easy to tell, only two types of flowers can spawn on tours, if you've ever seen roses spawn on any tour then you're in luck, otherwise you need to go down the complicated route. I for instance can only get windflowers and tulips on tours. :'(
I was doing this method along with planting a large plot of hybrid reds. By the time I got to step three, my hybrid reds made a blue rose. I got lucky and now I have dozens of blues.
Hey, major tip to anyone who doesn’t want flowers to reproduce but still want them around for a different step!! Put them on the beach! They won’t grow at all and are basically frozen in time while on there. Super useful for storing flowers you’ll need later on (like the black roses, for example)
Thank you for the guide! Took me 90+ in-game days, about 15 on the last step alone (breeding the 25% reds), to the point I almost started doubting if I mangled the steps in-between. BUT YES BLUE ROSE FINALLY. PS. Don’t try to save/reuse flowers which ‘fail’, dig it out, put it aside or toss it, just it get tf away from the experiment area.
There's another thing you can do to improve your odds: If you have 5 other players visit your island and water your flowers, they'll get a big golden sparkle that greatly improves your chances at producing hybrids.
Yes, you do get a benefit from having others water your flowers. But the benefit you get is increased chance of the flowers *breeding*, not producing a hybrid. The percentage of getting of producing a desired flower is always going to come after the game has decided the flower will produce a flower in the first place.

I watched the whole video and was in awe but sad because blue roses are so complicated only to catch the bit at the end about orange mystery island roses. The same ones that I just so happened to find the first month or so of NH and had around Ruby's house in a way they couldn't breed ever since. (Fuchsia has the pink ones I brought back). I did some TT into mid June to see if it was true and they made five of the special red hybrids and three blue roses. Never would have known about this if it wasn't for this video. Legit, thank you and damn so much respect for anyone that uses the method in this video.
I've had two blue rose bushes grow on my island accidentally, not even in the giant field of red roses where I was trying to grow black ones. It happened from separate orange roses I have lined up around one side of my community center, all originally found on a random island I visited with my my nook miles ticket. I transplanted the two blue rose bushes next to each in an attempt to breed more lol
You need to be careful at the TEST stage for checking the purples, because the yellow flower can reproduce itself without crossbreeding with the purple. A simple trick would be to put path or fences around the yellow flower and leave a space for the purple flower.
I don't think this is true. A flower can only clone itself if there are no eligible mates nearby. That purple flower (assuming you're not putting it next to other roses) will always be the eligible mate.
@@NickLoganbill After some research I think you may be right but I haven't found 100% proof that it will always choose the eligible mate or itself.. There is a lot of speculation RN due to the lack of data mining, so being extra careful may save a few hours in this case :)
Rose-Anne Lebel thankfully, I knew that I had orange roses in their original planted spot when I first got them so I knew which ones were the “purebreds.” If they happen to not work, I have others I’m suspecting!

I started my grind of Dec. 25 2021. After 1 full restart, a partial restart, and nearly 5 month of legitimate breeding, my first blue rose popped! May 23 2022! Thanks for the help!
The good thing about getting a blue rose is that it's very easy to mass produce them after the fact because all blue Roses have the same exact genome sequence (RRYYwwss) so just watering them or putting them together will pretty much guarantee another blue rose will spawn. So whatever method you chose you will not have to worry when it comes to getting more after, the space you made for producing one could be repurposed for just mass producing them.
Just wanted to say thank you for your content! I followed the instructions and it took me in game from April 1st to July 18th to get my first blue rose bud. On the 17th, I had five guests come to water my special hybrid reds and they finally sprouted when I jumped to the 18th. I may or may not have cried happy tears.
I finally got my first blue rose yesterday by following your steps!! I have to say that Step 7 is a pain to get Orange off-spring by breeding a Special White with the Hybrid Red, because, I keep getting 'Yellow', and different colours, but never an Orange, until yesterday. Did a lot of time-skipping, to speed up the process and then when I got my first Orange off-spring from Step 7, it started to get easier. Saved one single to clone itself so I can get more oranges, and then I finally, finally got it!!! (all that time and effort!!!!), Thanks for this guide by the way!!! (The testing isn't to my favour, to be honest, since the purple are mostly bad -_-)
After months of doing this process I finally woke up this morning to my first blue rose!!! I’m elated but also a tiny bit sad that I don’t have any more new flowers to grow. Thank you for this video!!!

Before seeing this video and reading the doc about flower genetics linked in the comments, I had well over 100 purple mums that never, ever made anything other than more purple mums. But after it took me maybe a few hours of flower breeding before I finally got one. So happy!
@@HayleyWooJiaYi start with seed bags of yellow and red mums. Breed them together, and set aside any yellow mums you get. Take the yellows you set aside and breed those for purple mums, discard any of the other kinds you get. Breed the purples you got from the last step for a 25% chance at green mums. The yellows from step 2 also have an 8% chance at giving you greens.

I know its a older video, but I've been attempting to crossbreed for Blue roses since like a month after the game was released and I've literally failed so many times. Yesterday I got my FIRST BLUE rosebuds using this method. It took a long time, but it was so much more reliable! This process absolutely works. I've been trying for almost 3 months with no time travelling and no friends helping to water. Got my first blue rose yesterday. If you have the space, I recommend doing this on an industrial scale to maximize the number of crosses per day. For example, in step 1, I had 40 seeded white roses trying to make purples. At the same time, I had 30 seeded reds working to make black. The testing of the purples in step 3.5 to get the right ones is very time consuming, even if you have a lot. Getting a "special white" took a while. Once I got one, I set it aside for cloning instead of putting it into production right away. That sped things up a bit. Great video, great details, great process.
I got super lucky with the standard method and have managed to get 2 blue roses. I guess I'm set on making more blue roses. Edit: I watched till the end and all the orange roses I have are from the mystery island save a few. Guess I'll be drowning in blue roses soon.
I used this method, and I got my first blue rose today after 32 days! I watered them with my boyfriend's account every day, and I asked a couple friends to water if they came over for DIYs or NPCs. I only got more than the one friend watering once or twice a week, but it really helped! If you've got AC friends, make a bunch of watering cans and invite them over when you've got something cool going on. It is a lot of work (I did not use a grid for each step, and I was constantly rearranging my flowers as more grew), but it is definitely worth it. I had a batch of 1/64 hybrid red roses together for about a month beforehand and partially during this project, and I was frustrated waiting for luck to strike. I like the certainty (and the eventual space conservation) of this method. Thanks for posting! Now all I have left is a purple pansy of all things...I'm following another foolproof for that one, and it's much less daunting now!

I just thought I would update my progress for people that may still want to try this. After an ENTIRE year (I prefer not to time travel much) today I finally got a blue rose!!!!! I'm so happy and excited. I tried this method at least three different times and I had to get more organized each time because it can get messy and confusing fairly easily. But just so people know, this method works great! Make sure your as organized as possible and you should be able to get blue roses!! Thanks for the great content
@@cinnamonsparrowdesigns Except that it's actually way easier than this if you can get 4-5 more people to water your flowers with you. Each person adds a 15% chance that flowers will breed. I think it is a stupid mechanic that removes any prestige to having rare flowers, but I guess they wanted you to do it.
Thank you so much, I hate myself but I was able to grow blue roses using this guide. Fun story: while I was slaving away at this method, some orange roses I had dumped off elsewhere on the island (i had bred them for the aforementioned purple orange method) managed to grow their own blue rose on one tile's worth of space. I was on the final step when I came across a full grown blue rose in a place it absolutely should not have been able to grow, and y'all already know that I SCREAMED
Mums aren't nearly as complicated as Roses. You'll want to start breeding a Seed Red and a Seed Yellow. These will make a "Hybrid Yellow" 100% of the time. 2 Hybrid Yellows can make Greens 6.25% of the time. 2 Hybrid Yellows can also make a "Special Purple" 25% of the time. 2 Special Purples can make a Green 25% of the time. Hope that isn't too complex. And good luck if you decide to try it. :) I've gotten some Green Mums myself, but I think I just got lucky as I didn't know about those steps at the time.
@@gummiies But you need 2 "Special Purples" to make Greens. Regular Purples from 2 Whites are incapable of making Greens. It's not as simple as you might think~
I started this January 3rd and played every day. I over shot the size of my plots so it took twice as long as it should have but I'm patient. Jun 1st now. Nailed it.
This does work finally got my blue roses! it might seem like a lot to do but just follow this guide step by step and you will be fine. It did take me longer than 90 in game days, it took me forever to spawn a hybrid orange roses, almost gave up thinking I had done something wrong. Thanks for putting together this clear guide.
Lemme repost my comment from the old upload: If you do it the old-school way (orange + purple), you _can_ distinguish between the reds produced. We'll call them hybrid reds and janky reds. Do a test breed with a seed red. 25% of the time, hybrid reds will produce orange or yellow. Janky reds will never produce those colors. But of course, if you do this, you won't have the special whites to increase your odds!
@@Cheesecakebro Two hybrid reds have a 1 in 64 chance of producing a blue rose. If either parent was janky, there is a *0%* chance of producing a blue rose.
Happy to report that after a VERY long time of trying to get blue roses, I finally did it!! I wasn’t putting consistent effort in and I had a small area on my island to grow them, but I managed to do it. Thank you so much for the guide!
If I can add one thing about watering the black and white roses (which should spawn red roses)... It's worth mentioning that it's best NOT to water those with the golden watering can because it seems to occasionally spawn the golden roses too. While I recognize this may not necessarily be a bad thing, it is certainly a disappointment when you're REALLY hoping for those red ones in trying to get the blue roses. :) Thank you for the great video! :)

Oooh, roses are my native flower, I was planning to spend next 3 months trying to breed blues the long way but maybe I should try doing some mystery tours and find the rare island with roses :0c (so far I got 2 pansy ones but I don't really go to those trips often)

Mystery island oranges bread together will all have the same genetics since they are all the same. If you mixed them with your island made oranges then its alot harder. But congrats on the blue
@@BishieQueen That's not true. They can produce 4 different types of orange since not all alleles are homozygous (both dominant or both recessive) in contrast to blue ones.

Wow thanks for this visual hybrid flowers guide to roses in Animal Crossing new horizons. I've been playing animal crossing games for years since the game cube and figured that even since then there was some type of science of genetics behind flower hybrid breeding. I've been trying to explain this the best I could in words to people and have even wanted to do my own video on it once I had gotten my own switch to visually explain this especially for roses but you beat me to it. And I'm glad you did. I might still do so with my own spin as well as show my own town but I'm so glad there are other people out there who love the challenge of this part of animal crossing just as much as I do. I did this method no time traveling and today I finally got the blue rose! I started in April and it took me 116 days but I finally grew my own blue rose! I'm so happy, thank you for this!!! This method works everyone!
I just did this to get my blue rose. It's worth noting for people who plan to do this that some of the flowers you get along the way can help speed up the process a bit. When you breed the special white + the first hybrid red, you sometimes get a purple. This purple is the same one you breed with itself to make special whites in step 4. So you can add that to your purples to help produce more special whites. Additionally, when you breed the special white + the orange, you sometimes get an orange. This is identical to the orange that you're currently breeding with the special white, so you can just replant that to expand your second hybrid red production. Lastly, when you're breeding your second hybrid reds together to get blues, you sometimes get reds. These reds are the second hybrid red, so you can again replant that to expand your blue production. You may also get whites, which are special whites.

PS. Don’t try to save/reuse flowers which ‘fail’, dig it out, put it aside or toss it, just it get tf away from the experiment area.
There's another thing you can do to improve your odds: If you have 5 other players visit your island and water your flowers, they'll get a big golden sparkle that greatly improves your chances at producing hybrids.
Yes, you do get a benefit from having others water your flowers. But the benefit you get is increased chance of the flowers *breeding*, not producing a hybrid. The percentage of getting of producing a desired flower is always going to come after the game has decided the flower will produce a flower in the first place.

I watched the whole video and was in awe but sad because blue roses are so complicated only to catch the bit at the end about orange mystery island roses. The same ones that I just so happened to find the first month or so of NH and had around Ruby's house in a way they couldn't breed ever since. (Fuchsia has the pink ones I brought back).
I did some TT into mid June to see if it was true and they made five of the special red hybrids and three blue roses. Never would have known about this if it wasn't for this video. Legit, thank you and damn so much respect for anyone that uses the method in this video.
I've had two blue rose bushes grow on my island accidentally, not even in the giant field of red roses where I was trying to grow black ones. It happened from separate orange roses I have lined up around one side of my community center, all originally found on a random island I visited with my my nook miles ticket. I transplanted the two blue rose bushes next to each in an attempt to breed more lol

You need to be careful at the TEST stage for checking the purples, because the yellow flower can reproduce itself without crossbreeding with the purple. A simple trick would be to put path or fences around the yellow flower and leave a space for the purple flower.
I don't think this is true. A flower can only clone itself if there are no eligible mates nearby. That purple flower (assuming you're not putting it next to other roses) will always be the eligible mate.
@@NickLoganbill After some research I think you may be right but I haven't found 100% proof that it will always choose the eligible mate or itself.. There is a lot of speculation RN due to the lack of data mining, so being extra careful may save a few hours in this case :)

I started my grind of Dec. 25 2021. After 1 full restart, a partial restart, and nearly 5 month of legitimate breeding, my first blue rose popped! May 23 2022! Thanks for the help!
The good thing about getting a blue rose is that it's very easy to mass produce them after the fact because all blue Roses have the same exact genome sequence (RRYYwwss) so just watering them or putting them together will pretty much guarantee another blue rose will spawn. So whatever method you chose you will not have to worry when it comes to getting more after, the space you made for producing one could be repurposed for just mass producing them.
Just wanted to say thank you for your content! I followed the instructions and it took me in game from April 1st to July 18th to get my first blue rose bud. On the 17th, I had five guests come to water my special hybrid reds and they finally sprouted when I jumped to the 18th. I may or may not have cried happy tears.
I finally got my first blue rose yesterday by following your steps!! I have to say that Step 7 is a pain to get Orange off-spring by breeding a Special White with the Hybrid Red, because, I keep getting 'Yellow', and different colours, but never an Orange, until yesterday. Did a lot of time-skipping, to speed up the process and then when I got my first Orange off-spring from Step 7, it started to get easier. Saved one single to clone itself so I can get more oranges, and then I finally, finally got it!!! (all that time and effort!!!!), Thanks for this guide by the way!!! (The testing isn't to my favour, to be honest, since the purple are mostly bad -_-)
After months of doing this process I finally woke up this morning to my first blue rose!!! I’m elated but also a tiny bit sad that I don’t have any more new flowers to grow.

Before seeing this video and reading the doc about flower genetics linked in the comments, I had well over 100 purple mums that never, ever made anything other than more purple mums. But after it took me maybe a few hours of flower breeding before I finally got one. So happy!

How to get green mums! I've tried so long and it's always purple.....
@@HayleyWooJiaYi start with seed bags of yellow and red mums. Breed them together, and set aside any yellow mums you get. Take the yellows you set aside and breed those for purple mums, discard any of the other kinds you get. Breed the purples you got from the last step for a 25% chance at green mums.
The yellows from step 2 also have an 8% chance at giving you greens.

7 hours after i watched this video, i got my first blue from two „special“ oranges (1/16 chance)! TY man, great guide! Finally!
This process absolutely works. I've been trying for almost 3 months with no time travelling and no friends helping to water. Got my first blue rose yesterday. If you have the space, I recommend doing this on an industrial scale to maximize the number of crosses per day. For example, in step 1, I had 40 seeded white roses trying to make purples. At the same time, I had 30 seeded reds working to make black. The testing of the purples in step 3.5 to get the right ones is very time consuming, even if you have a lot. Getting a "special white" took a while. Once I got one, I set it aside for cloning instead of putting it into production right away. That sped things up a bit. Great video, great details, great process.
I got super lucky with the standard method and have managed to get 2 blue roses. I guess I'm set on making more blue roses. Edit: I watched till the end and all the orange roses I have are from the mystery island save a few. Guess I'll be drowning in blue roses soon.

I used this method, and I got my first blue rose today after 32 days! I watered them with my boyfriend's account every day, and I asked a couple friends to water if they came over for DIYs or NPCs. I only got more than the one friend watering once or twice a week, but it really helped! If you've got AC friends, make a bunch of watering cans and invite them over when you've got something cool going on.
It is a lot of work (I did not use a grid for each step, and I was constantly rearranging my flowers as more grew), but it is definitely worth it. I had a batch of 1/64 hybrid red roses together for about a month beforehand and partially during this project, and I was frustrated waiting for luck to strike. I like the certainty (and the eventual space conservation) of this method.
Thanks for posting! Now all I have left is a purple pansy of all things...I'm following another foolproof for that one, and it's much less daunting now!

I just thought I would update my progress for people that may still want to try this. After an ENTIRE year (I prefer not to time travel much) today I finally got a blue rose!!!!! I'm so happy and excited. I tried this method at least three different times and I had to get more organized each time because it can get messy and confusing fairly easily. But just so people know, this method works great! Make sure your as organized as possible and you should be able to get blue roses!! Thanks for the great content

@@cinnamonsparrowdesigns Except that it's actually way easier than this if you can get 4-5 more people to water your flowers with you. Each person adds a 15% chance that flowers will breed. I think it is a stupid mechanic that removes any prestige to having rare flowers, but I guess they wanted you to do it.

Thank you so much, I hate myself but I was able to grow blue roses using this guide. Fun story: while I was slaving away at this method, some orange roses I had dumped off elsewhere on the island (i had bred them for the aforementioned purple orange method) managed to grow their own blue rose on one tile's worth of space. I was on the final step when I came across a full grown blue rose in a place it absolutely should not have been able to grow, and y'all already know that I SCREAMED

Mums aren't nearly as complicated as Roses.
You'll want to start breeding a Seed Red and a Seed Yellow. These will make a "Hybrid Yellow" 100% of the time.
2 Hybrid Yellows can make Greens 6.25% of the time. 2 Hybrid Yellows can also make a "Special Purple" 25% of the time. 2 Special Purples can make a Green 25% of the time.
Hope that isn't too complex. And good luck if you decide to try it. :) I've gotten some Green Mums myself, but I think I just got lucky as I didn't know about those steps at the time.

This does work finally got my blue roses! it might seem like a lot to do but just follow this guide step by step and you will be fine. It did take me longer than 90 in game days, it took me forever to spawn a hybrid orange roses, almost gave up thinking I had done something wrong. Thanks for putting together this clear guide.

If you do it the old-school way (orange + purple), you _can_ distinguish between the reds produced. We'll call them hybrid reds and janky reds.
Do a test breed with a seed red. 25% of the time, hybrid reds will produce orange or yellow. Janky reds will never produce those colors. But of course, if you do this, you won't have the special whites to increase your odds!
I currently have oranges and purples together so thanks for this method to test! I'm hoping so skip some steps lol

Happy to report that after a VERY long time of trying to get blue roses, I finally did it!! I wasn’t putting consistent effort in and I had a small area on my island to grow them, but I managed to do it. Thank you so much for the guide!
If I can add one thing about watering the black and white roses (which should spawn red roses)... It's worth mentioning that it's best NOT to water those with the golden watering can because it seems to occasionally spawn the golden roses too. While I recognize this may not necessarily be a bad thing, it is certainly a disappointment when you're REALLY hoping for those red ones in trying to get the blue roses. :) Thank you for the great video! :)

Oooh, roses are my native flower, I was planning to spend next 3 months trying to breed blues the long way but maybe I should try doing some mystery tours and find the rare island with roses :0c (so far I got 2 pansy ones but I don't really go to those trips often)

Mystery island oranges bread together will all have the same genetics since they are all the same. If you mixed them with your island made oranges then its alot harder. But congrats on the blue

Wow thanks for this visual hybrid flowers guide to roses in Animal Crossing new horizons. I've been playing animal crossing games for years since the game cube and figured that even since then there was some type of science of genetics behind flower hybrid breeding. I've been trying to explain this the best I could in words to people and have even wanted to do my own video on it once I had gotten my own switch to visually explain this especially for roses but you beat me to it. And I'm glad you did. I might still do so with my own spin as well as show my own town but I'm so glad there are other people out there who love the challenge of this part of animal crossing just as much as I do. This video was just great so keep them coming. And as I like to tell everyone who is excited or loves things all flower related towards animal crossing games is happy planting!!!

I did this method no time traveling and today I finally got the blue rose! I started in April and it took me 116 days but I finally grew my own blue rose! I'm so happy, thank you for this!!! This method works everyone!
I just did this to get my blue rose. It's worth noting for people who plan to do this that some of the flowers you get along the way can help speed up the process a bit.
When you breed the special white + the first hybrid red, you sometimes get a purple. This purple is the same one you breed with itself to make special whites in step 4. So you can add that to your purples to help produce more special whites.
Additionally, when you breed the special white + the orange, you sometimes get an orange. This is identical to the orange that you're currently breeding with the special white, so you can just replant that to expand your second hybrid red production.
Lastly, when you're breeding your second hybrid reds together to get blues, you sometimes get reds. These reds are the second hybrid red, so you can again replant that to expand your blue production. You may also get whites, which are special whites.
