With the time I’ve spent learning and helping others out with flower breeding, I never expected to actually see a hacked blue rose, because it had just never come up.
That said, those blue roses ARE supposed to be producing only blue. The only genotype that normally corresponds to blue roses is RR-YY-WW-ss, or 2220. This means that it’s homozygous. And in this game, breeding two flowers with the same homozygous genotype will only ever result in the same genotype as offspring. No exceptions. An example of this is the black rose (2000) you get from breeding seed red roses. This is why your blue roses on your island were producing only blue, because they actually had the intended genotype of 2220. However you can hack in flowers that have colors that don’t match up with one of their “intended” genotypes, hence why some of your friends’ roses made purple and red roses when bred with the other blues. My (very unlikely) guess is that some of those were the genotype 0000, which when bred with 2220 roses, will only produce 1110, which accounts for the red roses. I have literally 0 clue what the case for the purple roses is though, because with my cursory look at the potential genotypes for purple, there doesn’t seem to be one that results in any way from something paired with a blue rose.
Interesting! Explains why mine do that too, I got them off nookazon a while ago so they must have been hacked in. I just assumed it was normal that the produced red roses since I believe that’s what you need to get them.
Although it’s odd that mine only produced red and blue (no purple), even when put next to other blue flowers.
hmm are you sure? my naturally bred black tulips breed purple ones. i think it's just whatever the flower breeds with and has bred with or from previously unless you said that and i'm misunderstanding.

It is possible for black tulips to make purple, given the right genotype (of which there are only 2 for black tulips, 2-0-0 and 2-1-0. a pair of 2-1-0 black tulips is what is able to make purple, with the genotype 2-2-0.) The reason I mentioned it is due to the blue rose only having one genotype, which happens to be a fully homozygous genotype (2-2-2-0). As I mentioned, if two identical homozygous genotypes are bred together in this game, they will only produce that same genotype. For example, with 2-2-0 purple tulips, if paired with each other and bred, they will only make more 2-2-0 purple tulips. This means that blue roses with the intended genotype will only make more blue roses when bred with each other, with no exceptions. Everything depends on genes.

Me and my brother actually attempted to fill our island with flowers not for profit, but for fun. We flattened my brother's island and spent months filling it up with rows of flowers. In the end, we had the rows in rainbow colored order and in alphabetical order by species. It was fun and it looked really cool. It definitely wasn't worth the time it took, But it was a fun project and we worked really hard on it 😅
i would argue it was worth the time due to the simple enjoyment of doing it. to me at least if you enjoyed doing something it was worth doing

That's how I felt trying to breed that first blue rose. Now I have 90 of them, and corralling them is a minor hassle.
I only vaguely know what flowers go together to make hybrids, so my method is always just to plant, water and let them take care of themselves. I usually end up getting a few hybrids from the resulting flower disaster lol As for the shovels, I always craft them myself because I'm still working toward that one tools Nook Mile Goal lol

Early in acnh i filled my entire island with flowers, every single morph bred by yours truely including blue. then i went on nookazon and made 40 million bells and something like 4000NMT that went into buying various villagers. And then i quit
And returned to an island of flowers. Legit had to hire people to dig them up. 4 hours and 3 people later we had a FRACTION of the fields dug up.
And my goblin make number go big brain was WINCING every time a purple or blue flower was dug up. i had to go attack the tulips and mums because i couldn't watch all that money get thrown away, but i haven't got the energy to advertise or sell flowers again.
I used to give people a free gold rose with every purchase (as a surprise) i had a little green outfit and i'd set off a popper when i was done planting. I had a good time. but sometimes it took ages. and ages...and ages.
Now the island is....MOSTLY clear of them. but i haven't got the willpower to actually design my island so it's empty now. 300 hours growing and selling. 70 or so hunting villagers or trading them.
alas i am burned out. Lone, Marshal, raymond, sasha, bizkit, everyone waiting for me to come home. I'm sorry little ones.
I give away or sell my extra blue, purple, gold and black flowers at nooks. I like to let my floral arrangements grow wild, then sell all the extra flowers
With 40 blue crown wreaths and using the bell ordinance, you make $960,000 bells. I just pluck and store the flowers and make the wreaths all at one whenever I get enough to make 80 or so crowns. Since you don’t have to water them, it’s an easy way to make quick bells. Also, instead of buying shovels, I just customize the one I have at about 90 uses, so I can keep using the same shovel infinitely.
I just had my first blue rose!! But can a blue rose multiply if you only have one? I haven't been able to grow more than one....

I spent months and months trying to grow blue roses, and the very first time it spawned it was accidental and from a random patch of roses, I'm not sure it's worth it
i love selling blue roses and gold roses (not whole plant ofc) for some extra bells. i have enough just chillen on an extra part of my island that earns me 60,000 bells every 2 days & its not that big of an area so it doesnt clash with my theme. its pretty nice.
Blue roses are still the only flower I don't have. Every other flower is mine but those roses have ever evaded my grasp
I would HIGHLY suggest getting a controller with a turbo button for stuff like picking a whole bunch of flowers and/or crops at once.
6,665 squares on the island. 🤔 That last square is why the museum is always off by one.
Another flower breeding question: The blue flowers produced red and purple flower buds. From the guide i watched the final step was a red rose cross breed (of many other flowers before) so would the red rose offspring from the many blue roses still produce a blue rose?

I have a pretty sizable field of gold roses on my island, and I craft them into hats and doorplates for twice the cash. Gets me half a mil whenever I feel like harvesting it. Im not crazy enough to cover my whole island, though.
I tried for a long time to grow blue roses, but eventually I just gave up and obtained a few of them online. Of course, they've sprouted from there since then.
Needless to say, thank goodness for the random guy off of Nookazon who was willing to share in exchange for some Nook tickets.

I've got green mums I bred myself. I succeeded in life. I just wish the stupid wait for the updates and the mishandled Easter event didn't burn me out before June and I just wasn't feeling like playing when the wedding event happened. So I missed it aside from the first day. I didn't know that there was more stuff on the next days and I'd stressed out trying to minmax on day 1 and get the best wedding scene but I didn't have the items I wanted and it took me too long to settle on things. Missed the pipe organ. Can you blame me for just stopping? I wanted Gyroids and swimming like New Leaf and Nintendo items not just Mario ones. I think they screwed up the release of the game and it was rushed. But a lot of us were assuming they were working on it since New Leaf, we didn't know they were busy with Splatoon 1 and 2. I hope they release a new Animal Crossing game in the first year of the next game system that is just built on New Horizons to save time. We just need 60fps like the previous games and swimming and Gyroids on day 1, or at least in the game on day 1 (but maybe it waits until day 3 or so before you get the wetsuit).
I never even touched the crop growing or food cooking. I don't see the point of it. There's no in-game reasons to eat other than to move trees and rocks and I only want that to happen when I want it to. If there was a hunger system and perks to eating food, like being able to carry more items, craft more things, run faster without ruining flowers (like one recipe let's you run faster and it doesn't ruin your flowers or cause accidents, and you can outrun bees completely and the bees despawn), be bee-proof, get better items and things,
Then maybe cooking food would be cool.
just some advice for your next experiment, instead of buying 600+ shovels just get a Katrina luck with belongings and 1 shovel

I feel like this couldve been easier with doing good roses, they're arguably easier to get and there aren't as many variations of flowers you could end up with
If you do this again wait until a day that Katrina gives you A Fortune that you will have good luck with tools. Your tools won’t break that day so you’ll only need one shovel
I know it isn't worth it, but I adore blue roses and don't know anybody who can help me with them, so I knowingly dedicated myself to growing blue roses with a guide. I don't even want to sell them, I just love blue roses.

@@debearytea yeah it’s great! Imagine the old days in new leaf where you had to manually drag furniture to squash a roach whenever they decided to hide under em. (The beautiful ordinance also stopped them from appearing in new leaf as well)
(In new horizons you can use the new decorations feature to plop a furniture on a roach to squish it that way)
Where did you get the blue rose recipes? Over a year and a half of playing, religiously visiting EVERY villager day after day... nothing. I have an island FULL of blue roses and an extra player's house inventory filled COMPLETELY of blue roses.
@@JinzoCrash I’m not sure, it just kinda happens, it seems like the gold rose wreath any villager can craft it. Keep in mind there’s hundreds of DIY recipies, so you might just be getting unlucky, sometimes I just check nookazon to see if someone has one for offer or trade

I felt the same way. I had a lot of blue roses on my old island before it was deleted and I just had them over grown and not really caring too much. I just told myself "I did all of this and I flooded my island with roses.....What is wrong with me?"
A tip I learned is that when you customize shovels, it resets the durability. I’ve had my shovel for a few months now because of it lol. When in doubt, customize.
I'm surprised Koramora didn't wait for a Katrina belongings improvement fortune before digging up the veggies.
You would've only had to use one shovel and save 1.6M bells, or however many bells they quoted.

It works with every tool that can be customized. I think the vaulting pole can be customized as well, but keep in mind that it doesn't have durability to begin with. Also, I don't believe any of the axes can be customized, nor the "flimsy" versions of the tools.
@@ask1at Customizing resets the durability on all compatible tools. So not golden or flimsy but the rest. And buying a custom kit, aside from taking up an extra pocket space, is way more efficient than outright buying a new item. So that 1.6 mil in costs could've been less than half of that, even with not stretching it to its limits.
It only doesn't work on axes. Or ladders and vaulting poles but those don't break.
I don't usually use most of the tools sans shovels. So when actively playing, I only refresh the others about every month, and the shovels every week. But I also use a "pretty" shovel for my rocks and fossils (so "normal" stuff), and a secondary "basic" shovel for anything flower related, that way I don't have to lose track of my rock hits just because I pruned an unexpected flower somewhere.
I have a sizable field of blue roses on my island. If you can craft blue rose wreaths or crowns before selling the picked flowers it doubles the sale value. 💙
that was my thought! and the blooms can be sold separately from the buds/plant, so doubled bells there as well

The crafting goes pretty quickly too, with each wreath consuming 10 roses. It also works with gold roses.
They need to give the lawn mower item a functional use. You could mow flowers and possibly crops to uproot them. Either it would put them in your pocket or just delete them.
A mere point of interest: IF you can get the Blue Rose Crown DIY it's worth 12,000 bells for 6 roses. I got mine in a balloon. Same with the Gold Rose Crown. When harvested with other high priced items which can be easy to aquire they can add very nicely to a players income. Donation Boxes can be a huge bell bulger also. Fill 'em up w/99,000 bells and then wait until the Cranny has it as a hot item. 5 boxes will return almost a million bells. If you make them and use them on the island the Cranny will make 'em a hot item at some point. Thank You koramora. Well done!

What blue roses? I only see green mums.
Blue rose income is more sustainable than turnips for the average player. Every other day just pick and sell blue roses (craft wreaths or crowns to double income), it isn't an entire islands worth, just a section. Think normal islands, not extreme. No need to hunt for large spike prices.
But where do you get those blue rose recipes? Been playing nearly a year and a half, religiously visiting the islanders, NEVER got a blue rose recipe.
@@JinzoCrash Yeah, that's just random. Should be able to get 3 recipes per day from your islanders, one on the beach, and one on Capn island each day. It is a little tougher after they added food recipes. Can just sell the blue roses in the meantime, if you don't want to also try and get the recipe from Nookazon.
For digging up lots of stuff, if you have Katrina unlocked, just wait until you have a good luck on items so your shovel won't break next time.
Since 2020 I've been trying for blue roses. I used to water them, but the huge plots made it take forever. So I just used the info for my weather seed and cycled through two weeks of straight rain. It still took me forever. I got them a month ago.

I have blue roses stores up in hundreds and hundreds in an inventory... been playing well over a year and a half, NEVER got the recipe for the blue wreath. Like... I spent SO much time talking to islanders, NEVER the blue rose wreath recipe. It's... annoying. ::stops playing::

Instead of buying shovels, it’s cheaper to just buy 1 and a TON of customization kits, since your tools will have their durability rest upon being customized.

This may be incorrect, but from what I remember placing them 1 apart in a grid like pattern will duplicate any type of flower as opposed to breeding them. But then you need to basically remove a bunch once you fill out the area. I got a lot of blue roses and green mums from doing that.
If you had a blue rose wreath DIY it would have doubled and got you more bells but then that'll take forever to craft all those lol. They really should make crafting better as you can craft multiple at once and I don't mean 5 lol they need to fix that as well. You want to buy 1 or 5 I should be able to pick how many. I have 120 gold roses and I picked them and craft them into a wreath to make 240,000 where as if I just sold them as is I would got 120,000.
I haven't seen the vid yet just skimmed through it to see if you used my method, and I don't see it, so for the record blue roses are very very good to make periodically a ton of money with low efforts, if you have the two recipes that use blue roses, the blue rose crown and wreath. If you have a decently large blue rose field and make these when the roses grow back up again, you get a lot of muns like 200k or smth, it's great

Gold roses are easier to obtain, and they pay the same amount. They are a nice, lazy way to earn money.
Hi! I was just wondering if you could try filling an island with non-native fruit trees and see how many bells it could make? The trees would be a lot less dense than the crops (needs 1 square space all around each tree) but I think it would be a cool experiment! personally, I bought animal crossing (this is before I could've bought it in the shop so we checked like 5 EB games) so I could play with my friend but we lost touch still friends but we don't call or play or see each other so I have found myself with a game I don't know what to do with that I like! so I got my stuff together and have started playing it again I paid off my tent loans (finally my VILLAGERS got houses before me) and am now working to pay off my house loans and get Isabel my friend plays it as well and they said they will help me (this is an other friend) so yea just thought id share my story
I apply what I do in real life to this game and I don’t follow trends 🤣 I don’t mean that to sound “I’m not like other acnh game players,” what I’m saying is I’m lazy, if I don’t get a scorpion within 10 minutes on that tarantula island (?) I go back and catch fish lmao! Also I cared more about my house than I did anything outside especially flowers lol any “lazy” acnh players?
For me, the green mums was my crowing achievement. That took me forever.
Why do they exist
yeah I been selling my blue rose pickings to nook lmaoo. I mean seriously, if you want to make money off these things just buy yourself a couple of blue roses from someone else and breed them until you have a bunch. I got mine because I actually really did want to do the crazy way to breed them, and I do like them-- I just would never do that again, it was a once-in-a-lifetime event sort of deal. There are lots of ways to make $ in the game, some better than others. You can also make bank from people by digging up manila clams and making them into bait, because this is such a time-consuming process, people will pay a lot because they don't wanna do it. The clams don't even stack in your inventory, it's horrendous. The more bait you can provide the more money you're going to get, because people don't want to do tiny trades for bait, they want a one-and-done kind of deal, to fill their inventory.
blue roses took me foreeeever to grow on my own but it was so worth it. i have a whole section of my island devoted to them. they're spread sporadically over that section and i also have some blue hydrangea bushes over there. one of my favorite areas
they did, of course, start to spread out of control but now i just put transparent path designs around them to keep them from spreading

At least you don't have to fill your island with Gold Roses since you will most likely get same value as the Blue Roses.
I- HOW DID I GET BLUE ROSES?? I'm not even joking, I just went on my island when I saw this video and noticed I had blue roses. I didn't even know they were rare, 😢I could've been rich.
That was very entertaining. However, why didn't use the Blue Rose Crown? That's 20,000 bells with crafting only 10 Blue Roses. If I did the math correctly, if you did it that way with crafting Blue Rose Crowns then you would have a total of 128,320,000 bells. Instead of 6,565,000 bells. Is it worth it to do what you did, no because you couldn't have fun with your island and design. You could have 50 blues roses which that would make 5 Crowns with making 100,000 bells. Every 2 days your flowers will grow back so in a week, that's 400,000 bells you can make from Blue Roses with crafting the crown. I hope that's right.

So I also did this but with a 40 x 40 square instead of the whole island!
Your plants are producing non blue flowers because they are breeding! And what you want is for them to clone themselves. You achieve this by planting each rose with one square free on all sides, so would be like this

This way each plant has 8 spots where they can clone themselves, and aren't able to breed because there are no adjacent plants. Using this pattern and the rain I was able to fill the space pretty quickly!
And another thing. Picking up buds is good enough to produce money, but, if you craft blue rose wreaths you double the money! So it's just a matter of choosing between your mental sanity or crafting hundreds of wreaths for more profit.
I can’t believe you went to all that work and didn’t craft your blue roses into wreaths, which effectively doubles their sale price. I only have 53 blue roses on my island, which I pick every two days, make into five wreaths and sell for a cool 100,000 bells.
I also have 20 gold roses, which net me 40,000 bells as gold rose wreaths. Please try making some wreaths and see how quickly your bank account accumulates.
