I like how this came out. Strong work. If, in the future, you ever want to paint wood and protect the wood from paint getting into the grain, put down a coat of shellac. It protects the wood, gives the paint a good base, and gives future craftspeople a head start on stripping off the color. Again, no criticism, i think the paint really showed the details on this piece and was a great decision. Its just a tip someone taught me that i thought i would pass on. Also, glad to hear you were able to get help settling in your new home. Its a huge step, wish you and family all good things❤
That is a really useful tip, thank you! Especially because I know how frustrating it can be getting paint out of oak grain, I will do that next time for sure :) And appreciate your kind words, thank you 🤗
You were right about painting the legs black. They make the trestle details pop! And, hey-that boy has a flair for percussion. Drum kit for his 10th birthday.
Absolutely, I just need to get my wife to agree to that 😂🎵
It is SO crazy to hear that these beautiful refectory tables are hard to sell and being given away (but great for you!) They were really the first fold up table, easily dismantled to allow for a multi-purpose space in the monastery. I’m so happy to see you give it new life. Such a shame others can’t see the potential in these lovely and practical tables.
Yes, in New Zealand this would be like finding a gold nugget, you just don't see them very often at all. Total opposite here in the UK. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment :)
Lovely restoration! I personally have no problem with the paint, it looks great in this instance. Your apprentice is a little ray of sunshine!!
Thank you, pleased you like it! Yes he sure is, I am very lucky 😍
Love seeing Sonny. ❤ I look forward to watching him grow with your channel 😊
I think he is beginning to work the camera ;) Thank you for watching!
The black brought it to next level 💪 Nice save!
Thank you :) Just subbed to your channel, look forward to watching your videos. You sound a lot like Martha Stewart, your voice is very relaxing to listen to!
@@flipitnationHa! 🤣 I had to go look up what she sounded like.
😂😂
Love the way this turned out. Good choice on the black. Your apprentice looks like a pretty jolly fellow, enjoying "helping" his Dad. Hope you are adjusting well to your move to the UK. Sending your family many good wishes.
Thank you, the UK has been very welcoming so far ☺️
Color me green with jealousy! What an absolutely beautiful piece and your makeover skills are inspiring!
this is the first time hit like on a video on not just what you did with table but also the advertisement.
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
So beautiful 😻
Thank you :)
Love the end results with the black legs.
Thank you 😎
Often I wouldn't say I like painted finish on restorations but this is a stunner.. It really makes this design stand out beautifully.
Great transformation. Perfect. Careful Sonny doesn’t dismantle it when you are not looking!
Good call! Thank you 🤗🤗
I didn’t think I was going to like this table, even when it was made over, but I was so wrong. 😂😂 you chose the perfect stain for the black legs…I love it. Great job, well done. 👏🏻👏🏻 you’ve one cute kid there too. Love his curls. 😀
I think I felt the same to be honest! ;) Pleased you ended up liking the result!
Thank you 🤗
That is definitely an upgrade. The black with the wood looks nice.
Thank you , pleased you think so!
I honestly didn't think painting the base black was going to be enough to update this table. I was wrong. The contrast between the matt black and the rich wood is beautiful. Well done!
I was a little surprised too, the wood does look really so nice against the black. Thank you :)
@@flipitnation You're welcome. It's always nice when something works out. This certainly did.
Looks great!
Cheers mate!
Love the painted legs! It makes a world of difference! 🦋
Beautiful!😊
Thank you :)
The beautifully simple construction is amazing. Still so solid. Great job.
Little guy is just too cute!
I love the contrast.
He sure is ;) Thank you
Your apprentice looks like he plans on being a drummer. Adorable.
It's 5 O'clock Somewhere. He looks Just Like His Pop! Painting the Legs gave the Table a Cleaner Look. It Almost has a Scandinavian Quality to it Now. The Top is Gorgeous!
Haha, it sure is. Pretty sure that is my life motto ;)
Pleased you like the final result of the table, yes the top came up a treat!
The table turned out so nice. I love the look of it. Sonny is adorable. Love to the little man. ❤️
Very kind, thank you very much :)
I really like this table!!!! You did an excellent job! Sonny is just too adorable as always 😁
Thank you, it turned out much nicer than I was anticipating 😎
AWESOME WORK!! The paint job on the legs are outstanding. Well done. Angela from Australia.
Thank you Angela, have a lovely weekend! 😎
I think mixing and co-ordinating paint and stain is quite exciting. I’ve seen some great pieces and this is one of them. Quite handsome. Now, you have to find chairs to co-ordinate with the table. What fun! Carol from California
Yes, 6 wooden chairs in the same colour scheme will look fantastic with this table! Thank you for watching Carol :)
Or similar style benches along each side (which is what we had in my school dining hall 50 years ago).
Great idea to paint the legs! I think it modernized the look of the table. Cheers!
Thank you, I do too 😎
Love the disclaimer. If you like it do it. 🤣
Agree 😂
Oh yes 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 much better with the two tones 😁
Thank you , I agree :)
Beautiful work. I love the painted legs❤❤❤😊
absolutely love the black legs!
They came up a treat!
Nice! Love the trigger warning 😂. Wood and black is always a good combo. Could the mystery wood be Elm?
I've broken hearts using paint in the past, can't be too careful ;)
Maybe, beech and maple have been mentioned a few times. I am still unsure 😂
Hermosa mesa ❤
Felicitaciones por el resultado.
Y ese ayudante es adorable 😊
Saludos desde Valdivia al sur de Chile 🇨🇱
Yes, I like it. The contrast of the black paint with the wood works beautifully .
Pleased to hear, thank you!
Much respect to you for your sponsor add. Takes courage and a humble man to get help. Stay strong remember to talk to your wife about your struggles. This was a beautiful turn out. I love it. I think that was a smart idea to paint the base black. Very handsome 👏🏼👍🏼🇺🇸❤️
I'm one of those people who usually walk away from painted wood furniture, but you did a great job, and I like the oak with the black legs. I have something I think I'll try that on soon.
This turned out really nice. I approve your finishes-this was not antique or precious. Painting part was a good choice.
Thank you, pleased you like the final result :)
Have the exact same design, only in a coffee table! Really like the finished table, the oil works beautifully with the oak.
I actually got the matching coffee table with this table, although it was in much better condition so will likely just give it a fresh polish :)
Can’t start them working too young. Love what you did to the table. Now to phone my SIL because they have one exactly the same. Thank you so much❤❤🙏🏻👏👏👏
Thank you very much, I am pleased you drew some inspiration from this table. Hopefully your SIL enjoys the makeover too :)
Oh my goodness what a gorgeous transformation! Love the paint and stain combo, extremely beautiful! Fantastic job! ❤😊
Thanks so much! 😊 Really appreciate that!
I love it. The stain you mixed is gorgeous 😍
Thank you very much :)
Great transformation - the contrast between the base and top make this table look contemporary ! Nice job!
Thank you very much, pleased you think so!
Great job and your son is adorable 😊
Thank you and thank you 😎
Another great job, and agree Gilboys hard wax oil is brilliant
Thank you! Yes it sure is!
That's a beautiful makeover, Cole. Thanks for sharing some of your history with us. We as a people have much more in common than we think and you brought that to my mind. Little Sonny is our future world renown musician 🥰
You are welcome, we certainly do! Thank you for your kind words :)
💜
Enjoying your humor, striped socks and drums! 🤣🤣
Thank you for saying so 😂😎
A more modern look. It turned out well.
Thank you :)
Nice two tone effect. Paint and wood.
Thank you :)
Great project Cole! Cheers 🍻🏅
We have one of those tables in our basement. My husband uses it for his stain glass table. He might have to find another table, yours looks modern and something that would look gorgeous in our diningroom. Terrific job.
Oh wow, that is awesome that your husband works with stained glass. What a great skill! Pleased to hear you like the table, thank you very much :)
First, I applaud you for getting help, it is not easy to admit we need it from time to time. Second, the black looks awesome!
Thank you very much, on both fronts :)🤗
I absolutely love the black paint and how you left the pins and the trestle beams natural. It’s just fabulous. I think this is my favorite piece you’ve done so far.
That's awesome, thank you for letting me know. Pleased you really like it 😎🤗
Once again, you have done a great job. I love it
Thank you so much 😊
Wow, the choice to paint the legs and leave the rest natural was a great one. It literally brought the table into the 21st Century.
Enjoy your work, it's lovely.
Sonny just keeps getting more helpful as he grows. I love the way that he placed the pin(?) into the slot(?)... either that or some good editing.
I love your work, 👍 see you next time!
No clever editing, just 50 attempts and some patience behind the camera ;) Thank you very much for your kind words, I really appreciate you watching my videos and taking the time to comment 🤗
Your table turned out gorgeous!!!
I paint and then smooth with a roller, it gives a lovely finish but I buy 2 inch ones online, it gives me more dexterity than a 4 inch one. Lovely contrast with the wood.
Beautiful , great idea. I always enjoy your work.❤️
Thanks so much 😊 Appreciate that!
Wow. You made an ordinary table EXTRA😍with a little help from your little ray of Sonny of course, that smile……🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much, Sonny and I are pleased to hear you like it! Have a great weekend 🤗😎
I love what you did with that table! And your baby is completely adorable!
Thank you and thank you 🤗
I find tinting the undercoat helps if the top coatnis going to be on the darknor atring side. You can usually talk the hardware store into selling you small amounts of tint if you supply the pottles. Old pill pottles work well 👍
Love the stain to offset that awful orange that oak tends to have and when the black paint accents are added it blends perfectly with the black flecks in the oak grain like they were made for each other!! Great video!!
Thank you, I am happy to hear you like the final result. Cheers for tuning in, have a great weekend!
Beautiful done.
Thank you :)
Brilliant result. Love the paint job:)
I purchased a similar table years ago but had no idea how to go about refinishing it. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Absolutely Gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing
Thank you very much 😎
Love it! I enjoyed both drum solos. Cheers from Colorado in the USA.
Niiiice 👌 😍 💯
Looks great. Def gave it a new life. I like those tables. I think it is the rounded edges they have throughout that give it a dated feel. Would love to see one that gets made over but has all the rounded edges sawed off.
That thought did cross my mind actually, I just didn't have the guts to do it!
Turned out great! Love that table top. Thanks
Thanks so much!
Stunning transformation! So elegant. Good call on the legs!
Thank you very much, glad you like it :)
I picked up the exact same style of table free on fb marketplace also. Lots of wear and tear on it. Finish is completely shot and looking forward to giving it some tlc and using it in my kitchen. Always wanted one but couldn't afford one new so all I had to pay was the price of a van to pick it up. Score. The wee guy is soooo cute. Guess he's gonna be a drummer too.
You will probably find it is built much better than a new one, nice to have a little character and history too :) Best of luck with your restoration, it will be very satisfying once it's done and you can enjoy using it! Thank you for watching 😎
I can’t believe no one wants tables like this in your area. Here in Canada people would be fighting over a table like this. I love tressle tables. You don’t see them very often here unless they are custom made.
I completely understand, finding a table like this in New Zealand would be like finding a gold nugget. And you would pay a pretty penny! But in the UK, they are very common and don't seem to have much value - unless they are antiques. I hope I can find it a nice home!
My older son made one from oak in 1984 for his grade 12 shop project. We paid 200 dollars for the oak and it's still my kitchen table and will outlast all of us. We're in Alberta but came from England in 1967. I can't believe they're not treasured back home, they're a great design 😊.
Wow, that is awesome. Sounds like a priceless family heirloom!
Woow. That's beautiful. Good job
Thank you Sue :)
Beautiful ❤
Pleased you think so, thank you
Those light pieces look like oak as well. By the way, love the way it turned out!
Thank you! I am getting mixed opinions on what the wood could be, I think I might put a poll on my community page with everyones suggestions, thank you for yours :)
Lovely! Looks great!
Great work. 💕🥹👶
Thank you very much 🤗
😮 stunning 😍
Thank you :)
Love the black legs and wood mix Cole! It’s sad that these tables just aren’t desirable anymore because they are so solidly built, but you definitely made it look 1000x better 😍👏🤩
Thanks a lot, I was really pleased with how the wood and black paint complimented each other. Thank you for tuning in again 😎🤗
The table goes well with your floor. Hope your wife likes it too! K
She does like it but we realised it isn't quite big enough for us sadly. Hopefully I can find it a new home!
Love your paint warning. You are breathing new life into a worthless piece so it can gain worth. It would be lovely if it became a desirable piece again. I adore your style
Gumby’s is sweet stuff
Fingers crossed! I will list it for sale this weekend and see if it gets any bites, it really is a beautiful table :)
Personally I wouldn't ruin the bases with black paint but to each their own and their projects 👍
Really, really nice❤
Thank you very much :)
The stunning realism 👍👍
Cheers mate
❤ it!
Great, thank you!
Well done mate 👍
Cheers mate 😎
This looks amazing! I wasn't sure about the paint, but you were right to trust your gut here! Well done, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you, appreciate it! Pleased it won you over in the end ;)
Love it!
Thank you 😎
Nice! 👍👍
Thanks! 👍
Looks great and you gave me a lot to think about. Between the oil and my husband and I are considering moving to his home country…I speak very little of his native language. Glad you shared
Sounds like a big decision! Where ever you land, just be kind to yourself :)
Very beautiful
I like your end result. Still, I think you could have gotten a very similar effect using a darker stain instead of the paint, and not lost the beautiful grain in those legs.
Now, I'm very tempted to seek out one of those tables myself, simply because that table went from "cheap seventies knockoff" to a true modern beauty.
Great work!
Yes a stain could have been a good option too. I have a coffee table that matches this dining table, perhaps I'll try the black stain on that one. Thank you for tuning in, appreciate it!
Fully trust your judgment on paint v restore-you are the expert 😊
Thank you 👍
Great job!❤
Thank you :)
I love the 2 tone. Beautiful.
Me too! Glad you like it, thank you :)
Very nice! ❤
Thank you! 😊
Really nice work. Nice color and smooth surface. Well done💯💯💯
Thank you very much Danny 😎
Love the combination of paint.
Me too, cheers :)
I love the final result you did a great job ❤
I'm so glad! Thank you very much 🤗
