- Some envelope filters just transcend the world of classic funk tones and turn into true magical synth beasts. The EarthQuaker Devices Spatial Delivery is one of those filters. In this episode of Tonal Teamwork we pair it up with the EQD Bit Commander, Old Blood Noise Endeavors Procession and Boss DC-2w to create some stellar faux analog synth tones.

I definitely like these type of videos where you craft sounds with multiple pedals.
Cheers, bud! Makes me happy to hear the effort is well worth it 🙏
Tonal Teamwork is the best!
Check out JHS Pedals’ video called How to stack pedals too, it’s super informative!
Stefan you absolutely need to guest on TPS for a synth pedal tones episode. It would be beyond cool to see you build up sounds like this and get into the nitty gritty in a longer form video. You have a really unique and inspiring approach to guitar and effects
that would be a killer show!
TONAL TEAMWORK HYPE! My favorite!
Hope you dig the episode 😊
@@thepedalzone it's always great!
I loved all the sounds but damn that Dimension-C going into Procession sounded angelic
I could never not like your originality. That was insanely beautiful. Great video !!
Awww! Thank you! ❤
I heard that Jeff Beck was using a Boss Dimension pedal so I got me one. It’s my favorite chorus pedal and I have lots of chorus pedals. I have since purchased the Waza one. Great video. Really enjoyed your work on this one.
It's just such a lush and dreamy device. Love it to bits as well. Happy you enjoyed the video!
I too have been waiting for a new episode. As always, you never disappoint.
Awww, thanks! So kind of you ❤🙏
Nice Stefan! Was cool to see all these different combinations. Of how you can get cool synth sounds from those choice of pedals. Keep up the good work!
Really happy you found the video fun and inspiring 😊🙏
Those are some killer battle synth sounds.
Cheers, buddy!
You have the most fun, technical and AMBIENT AF pedal channel, love you man
💙Tucson, AZ
Dude!! Thank you SO MUCH for the kindness 🙏
I just have to say your pedal reviews are nothing short of an awakening for me. Your playing, your melodies and pure creativity is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent with the rest of us gear nerds haha. Keep it up
Man! Beyond humbled and honored. Thank you so much. Makes it all worth it to hear that you gain insight and inspiration from the videos. ❤🙏
Great Tonal Teamwork! I really enjoy those sounds.
Thank you so much, my friend! 🙏
Man, nice job! You’re stuff is always outside of my box and I love it. Thanks for helping me to try new things!
Hearing that you found new inspiration and insight in this video, makes all the hours spent making it totally worth it 😊
Yay, more tonal teamwork! These are always really fun, as they help me think outside the box when it comes to pedal sound design.
I'm happy you find the Tonal Teamwork vids inspiring. Makes it all worth it 😊
Yeah I’m saving this for later, super inspired by these synth sounds. Imma get me a dimension C and that EQD pedal, asap as possible!
Well, now I know that I am going to get the Procession. This is why I don't skip your videos - you keep having fantastically useful things to inform me about.
That’s awesome, dude! Procession is such an incredible textural reverb. I’m deeply honored to hear you find the videos I make informative and inspiring. Makes it all worth it 😊🙏
You are truly a vortex of everlasting inspiration! And obviously a killer guitarist. All the best from Finland!
Oh, man! Thank you so incredibly much, dude!
Have been waiting for a new Episode!
Hope you enjoy it ☺
Really love these videos, cause they get me thinking about new ways to combine gear! Thanks!
Your comment makes all the work worth it. That’s exactly what Tonal Teamwork is all about. Jumpstarting the sonic imagination 😊
Thank you for being the Awesomest, Stefan!!!
And thank you for being super kind to me ❤🙏
I absolutely love your videos! Thank you so much for making such awesome videos with sweet sweet tones!
Super kind of you to take the time to write such a sweet comment. Thank you!
Love the sounds. I don't play guitar but I've developed an unhealthy obsessions with pedals hooked up to my laptop. I just ordered a Bit Commander, can't wait... thanks for this demo.
Cool sounds... No adds.. perfection.
Glad you liked it!
The Stacking Really Sells The Tones' For Great Tonal Vision Makers! Thank You! Always Stay Awesome! 🎸🔊🎼
Tonal Teamwork is all about the stacking possibilities. Happy you enjoyed it 😊👌
Whow, great video. Thank you
Cheers! Really happy you enjoyed it 🙏
Bro this is so inspirational. Thanks so much !!!
Cheers, man! Really happy you liked it and found the sounds and concepts inspiring 😊
Awesome!
2nd & 3rd sounds 🔥👌🏻😍💯
Thanks 🔥
def gave me some insight for some oldschool video game sounds i been trying to make. cheers from new jersey
Really awesome to hear!
Thanks for the demo! Been trying to get new ideas for the sample and hold on my Spatial Delivery for months now. I always thought it had to go at the very front of the signal chain.
My pleasure, man. Happy the video gave you some new insight and inspiration 😊
Sick, so sick... awesome stuff as always
Awww, man! Thank you very very much 🙏
I've had the spatial delivery on my board technically longer than any other pedal on there bc it's all changed through. I've always said I want to get rid of it, but its too versatile. I really do discover new sounds all the time on it mixing with other stuff. Use of the momentary switch really makes it special though, and super usable. Nothing like an unknown sound coming through with a key note while you keep going and it keeps dancing behind you in the mix bc it stays standing out in the delay/reverb madness. Very cool how a single note from the spatial delivery can hold it's weight so well.
Love my EQD Spaitial…it sounds so good and is so flexible.
Such a wildly underrated pedal
Awesome!! Well done!!
Thank you very much 😊🙏
now that is fun ... thanks stefan ;)
and congrats for reaching over 25k SUBS ... YAY
Happy you enjoyed it, man. And thank you!
Awesome! That’s it, I’m gonna order one today
Awesome!! 🙌
i love this guy
i was worried I was the only one that gets this excited about pedals
Thank you! You sound pretty great as well 😊
I've been GASing for the Spatial Delivery for over a year. I've noticed I've been very "serious" about my tone: getting the right harmonics in overdrive, finding a delay with the right decay, etc. But the Spatial Delivery always teased me and said, "Or you could also try having some fun. :) " There's something playfully odd about it. This week I decided to build a pedalboard out of nothing but orange pedals (things like an Orange Squeezer, Benson preamp, Phase 90, T-Rex Replica, Keeley Caverns, Mr Moto, Ammoon Stereo Looper, etc) and I knew I needed to put this on there. I saw your video and I saw a used one for super cheap, so I had no reason not to. Thanks for the encouragement. And also showing the musicality of this pedal. :)
Amazing dude, you have such an ear
the waza craft chorus sounds fantastic, nothing like these typical chorus sounds from the 90’s. it adds so much depth, reverb-like bit with its own sounds.
Yup. Just an incredible pedal!
Gonna have to get one of those dimension C pedals. Can't believe I have never seen that before!
It’s a really nice pedal, man. Beautiful and rich spacious modulation 😊
very sick video! i need to cop a spatial delivery asap
Go for it, man! Such a killer Envelope Filter. And I’m really happy to hear you found the video inspiring. Means a lot 🙏
Dimension C might be the most underrated pedal of all time.
It’s definitely a great pedal, that’s for sure 👍
If you can find one of the now-out-of-production Behringer clones, snag one. It is a dead ringer for the DC-2 circuit, and is also stereo out. But more crucially, Behringer used cheaper buttons that allow you to press as many or as few in any combination. I actually like it when none of the buttons are pressed. It provides a lovely slow Leslie swirl. The original DC-2 only allows one button at a time, and the Waza version will tolerate two buttons at once, but not any more.
My all time favorite. I have 2 of the originals.
@@markhammer643 The Line6 MM4 and TC Electronic 3rd Dimension are also great pedals for the Dimension sound. That being said, the TC Electronic, although very good is NOT stereo.
Man this was good
That really means a lot to me!
🤤
😊
Awesome video- you always deliver. You might really enjoy the Happiness pedal made by Dwarftcraft. Very powerful filter and great for synthy sounds. It has a scatter mode which is similar to the sample and hold feature and it has a free running LFO for nasty pulses. Mixing the two is sweet and adding other effects. I like to control the LFO rate with an expression pedal, put before a granular delay is a sweet look.
I dont have the Hax II ( also by dwartcraft) but it's a ring mod with a built in envelope filter. All the clips I've seen of it are bananas. Another one to look at is the Lida Machine, dual phasery filter.
The last riff you play at the end sounds like something from Bon Iver
Okay. That’s cool. I’m a huge Bon Iver fan 😊👌
Nice selection of pedals... I dusted off my EHX Epitome and it gets pretty funky paired with the Attack Decay.
Cheers, man!
Fabulous
Thank you! Happy you enjoyed the video 🙏
Nice video Stefan. Any plans on doing a video on the Somersault? It's such a deep pedal, I'd love to see your take on it.
Thanks, man! No current Somersault plans. Would love to demo it though. It was one of my favorite pedals at NAMM this year.
Always love your playing. Releasing an album anytime soon?
Thank you! No current plans for an album.
THIS IS A PRO CHANNEL!!!
Think that's the first time anything I've ever done has been called PRO 😂 Thank you! 🙏
Here you go again Stefan. You demo the money right out of my pocket.
Hahaha! Awesome. That almost sounds like somekind of magic trick 😂
Mannnn your so cool! Do you play in gigs and stuff? Your sound is great. Im definiteli into the sound your after
i have a spatial deliver but it lives on my bass rig. im gonna put it in my guitar signal chain with stereo fuzz and phase i think
Now THAT sounds like a fun setup 🤯🤘👍
Dimension C has a really nice sound to it
Yup! It’s amazing. An all time favorite stereo effect 👍
Not a criticism, but downward sweep of envelope filters is not simply the inverse of upward sweep. It requires an adjustment of both where the sweep starts, and how fast it sweeps, or else it sounds too jarring , and not especially musical. Part of that requirement stems from the harmonic content in the string at different points in time after picking. Remember that the most harmonic content occurs at initial pick attack, and simmers down from there as the note decays.
Thanks for the insight. I just set it where it sounds good, man. I like the aggressive synthy stabs that a downward sweeping envelope filter can make 👍
@@thepedalzone My comment is really more directed at designers of envelope filters than end-users. The old MXR Envelope Filter was, for many years, my favorite such pedal, since I first bought one in 1978. When a friend figured out how to mod it for reverse sweep, I eagerly did the mod, and found that flicking the switch from upward sweep to downward sweep did NOT produce anything nearly as pleasant, unless I adjusted some other things, like sensitivity and attack time. If the design permits compatible adjustments, then "where it sounds good" can be readily identified by the average user.
The magic and mystique of guitar is that, unlike analog synths or signal oscillators, the signal properties change a lot in a short period of time, both in terms of bandwidth and amplitude. Any design depending on input-signal envelope needs to anticipate those properties. Kudos to those designs that do.
Hey you cracked 25k!!! Well deserved in my opinion. Did you check out the new Aiming for enrike tracks on spotify? Shit is of the charts
Thanks, man! Wild to break the 25k follower mark. I haven't checked out the new Aiming for Enrike, but I love that band, so I'll definitely give it a go soon 👍
Recently discovered this channel. You really are a brilliant soundsmith! Do you have any albums or EP's of music you've made that I can check out? Thanks!
No he doesn't, maybe we should start a petition ;)
@@stevesmith3990 I'd be down for that. He's extremely talented. His demo's are filled with unique album worthy ideas.
Thanks, man! That's very kind of you. No, I don't really have any solo albums out. There's stuff from old bands out there though 😊
@@thepedalzone Any chance you could let me know what bands those were? You've got such a great vibe going on. Would love to add some music you've made to my phone.
Sweet shirt and tasty sounds!
How do you keep your noise levels down so much? Stacking pedals always gives me a ton of hum
Cheers, man! I don’t do anything special. I use a proper isolated power supply (Cioks DC7). That’s it. A good power situation is pivotal to a low noise floor.
EQD make cool pedals! *The Avalanche run V2 and the Spatial Delivery are my favorite pedals. The Avalanche is perfect. The Spatial Delivery V2 is almost perfect. In the SH mode: As soon as there is a version with tap tempo, you can say it is even more user friendly. EQD people please do it in a 3 custom version. SD V3 (:-)
They make the best pedals! And I agree, a Spatial Delivery with Tap Tempo would be cool. An expression in for manual control over the filter would be rad as well.
have you guys tried the Subdecay Proteus? it has a sample/hold mode with tap tempo, and a switch for a step multiplier. i dig EQD pedals (absolutely love the Dispatch Master) but couldn’t pass up the Proteus because of the tap tempo.
Stefan based on your videos I'm buying the aston origin large diaphragm condesner mic. I wanted your opinion or suggestion on a floor mic stand as I cant afford the shock mount. I'd appreciate your feedback. My amp is on the floor. I have an bass amp- ampeg ba108.
Great video, Stefan! I was wondering how you get the stereo sounds from a single-speaker amp? Are you recording direct with one of the outputs from the DC-2?
Thank you! No, I’m using two amps. My Fender Deluxe Reverb and my Peavey Classic 50 (the black amp you can see in the background of the clips where I play the guitar)
@@thepedalzone do you use any specific power condition to flip the ground (to avoid any unwanted humming or buzzing sounds)?
I feel like you should check out the digitech dirty robot p sure its got swells for days and you'd enjoy it
I've tried it. It's fun 😊
Ugh, I've been wanting to get a Spatial Delivery without even playing it for that sample and hold. I have an open spot on my pedalboard, and now I see this...
Go for it! It's such a fun filter device. Totally worth it just for the Sample & Hold, even though the normal filters sound incredible as well.
@@thepedalzone I actually had it for a week and then sold it already. It was fun to play with, but was somewhat limiting for the music I make. Same reason why I haven't pursued the Dwarfcraft Grazer, which looks like lots of fun.
Does the bit commander ac plug in hole aligned up. Mine does not plug in all the way. I'm thinking it's just not drilled in the right spot.
Yes, it aligns perfectly. I've never had problems with that before with EQD pedals. But if it's a problem you're experiencing with your Bit Commander, then contact EQD. They have a life time warranty on their products and will definitely fix it for you.
How do you do a sawtooth type wave without relying on a keyboard synthesizer
It's gonna be tough to create a perfect saw-tooth wave on guitar. But I guess you could approximate it with a Fuzz, which is square-wave, and then role back the tone on your guitar to create a softer wave form. That's basically the essence of subtractive synthesis.
where are the shelves in the background from?
Ikea 😊
If Valve doesn't contact you to put March of the Robots in the next Portal game, I'll be so angry.
Hahahah! Thanks, man! That could be very cool
Good joke.....That Synth Pedal Zone 😆.......some cool tapping and a DS-1 does it for me 🤘🏼
Haha! Cheers 😉
Hey y’all, anybody has a trick to make guitar sound like a fender Rhodes piano? Thanks for the help!!!
Soundtechs always hate my Spatial Delivery + fuzz + Total Sonic Annihilation combo because of the high peaks…
Why reverb before delay? To keep clear the delay tail?
Exactly 👍
@@thepedalzone thanks!
stereo = always better. methinks everyone should have a stereo chorus at the end of their board!
Stereo is definitely fun. Especially with a nice ping-pong delay or sweeping phaser to bring grand sweeping motion to it all. It can be difficult to go back to mono after such an experience 😊
Is your Fender Deluxe completely stock? Can you keep up with a drummer and make all those sweet sounds?
Yes to both questions 👍 That amp is LOUD 🤘
I think I would go for the Boss SY-1 rather than the Spatial, just because it has so much stuff in it
Spatial Delivery isn’t a synth pedal. It’s a filter pedal. But it can create synth-like sounds when combined with the right pedals, as shown in this video. If what you’re looking for is a dedicated synth device, then you definitely need something like the SY-1
@@thepedalzone what I mean is, if I had the money and could only get one of them :) The SY-1 is incredible standing alone plus I bet you could make amazing sounds by combining the SY-1 with other pedals as well.
yes im in a gang!!!
You’re in a gang?
the pedal zone gang!! haaaa. at the end you say alright gang hope you enjoyed the video.
God, you tun on the spatial delivery and it's just... magic happens... i really don't grasp what it does here ... is it just downsweep envelope?
Krumpus Plunk - That very much depends on what example you’re referring to. The Spatial Delivery has 3 different filter modes, and I showcase all of them in the 3 different playing examples 😊 But it’s an incredible pedal. Can really transport a sound to uncharted synthetic territories
@@thepedalzone it was the sample and hold mode that confused me. Now I've watched a few more videos and finally grasped what it does. It's just that the name doesn't make any sense if you don't know about the underlying random volt/number generator thingy :D
I feel like everyone has forgot about the Line 6 FM4
Things of the past can sometimes stay there. I only personally messed around with it briefly back in the day, but it was a lot of fun 😊 The Line6 4 series is and was generally just awesome.
And yet it is probably one of the most enduring digital guitar multi fx in history! You still see it on many pro boards and i is 20 years old!!!
All the FX from the DL 4 are still available in the new Line6 products like Helix etc...
V. nice playin' man.
***space**&**grit***
but, kit is too expensive sadly
🐂💨💨💨💨💨💨
You can create this sound with other pedals. Use what you have. Get cheaper alternatives if you need to. These videos simply present concepts and ideas, which you can use and implement however you like.
Or get the zoom ms-50g and do all of these sounds that a mediocre way but fun to experiment and all in one pedal for a little over a hundred bucks I have mine on my pedal chain boosted up on a platform so I can use my hands with it cuz there's so much you can do with it you are cheating yourself if you have one of those things on the floor
Sure. This video is simply explaining pedal order ideas and concepts. You can realise those sounds with whatever you have. That's the whole point of Tonal Teamwork 😊👍
You can't make a bad video, can you ?
I don't know. I wouldn't release a video if I thought it was bad 😊But good and bad is always subjective.
@@thepedalzone I never was into filter, auto-wha and all those stuff, but as always you sold it to me ^^
Check out the source audios c4!!! You'll love it!! And make a demo of it😅😅!!
Looks like a fun pedal 👍
takes what appears to be a boring ass pedal and makes something incredible and amazing come out of it.
Thanks, man! And this is far from a boring pedal. It's one of the most fun and versatile filter pedals currently on the market 😊
Not one everdrive pedal - come on dude! As amazing the the last sound was the tone was just clean guitar - would of been so much better if sculpted with overdrive 1st!
